Cremo, what about The old Mulberry Bush again? Despite (or because of) the f up with my dinner and subsequent huge discount, it was quite good for a large group and range of dietary needs? But I am happy to go anywhereSmile

herbaceous · 03/09/2015 23:14

< waves weakly> tell you whats tiring - a full day at Legoland, a 2.5hr crawl home, then a haircut, and getting home at 9.30. I haven't even sorted out anything for DS's first day at school tomorrow.

Here shoes and trainers have been bought - size 6!! I was sure he was no more than a 5, but with the PE socks..... (DP did point out that he wouldn't be wearing PE socks with his school shoes - this cut no ice)..... Bag bought - looks too small to me and I suspect will lead to complaints/lost PE kit on PE days.....

MrsS BTM is right - gonna have to play mean - always be on your way (in a hurry) to get somewhere, or have boiling pans on the stove and can't help.....

Glad first days went well.

26th - MUST PUT IN DIARY!!

BeachysFlipFlops · 04/09/2015 08:35

Hello everyone, feel very behind and out of touch. Flu is regressing, but I've given it to ddad, which is NOT GOOD. He's not helping though by swimming in the sea twice in the last two days......

Excellent news about your ddad's home place, Rose. That will make a massive difference.

Hope your interview went well, GG and good luck for yours, Mrs S.

Well done mini CV - why are the results coming out now?

Dh had an interview yesterday and got the job Grin, so he's driven to work today to hand his notice in. This will mean about 10 hours less travelling a week and about 10% more pay, so win/win.

Dd1 is off to uni today. We're leaving when we are ready, sharing the driving and I'm flying home tomorrow (cheaper than the train). She is still slightly of the mind that she's just chucking a few things in the car and off we go. I've religiously used the MN checklist (GG - you may find this useful) and am ticking things off and putting them in collapsible crates.... We will shop for pot noodle, vodka and chocolate when we get there!

Have you tried Age Concern, Mrs S? I'm not sure what they could do, but someone needs a Plan.

CointreauVersial · 04/09/2015 08:53

WFH today while I await the Bosch man, who will hopefully breathe life into our dishwasher.

Packed DS off to his D of E hike (postponed from July because of the hot weather). His rucksack is filled mainly with food. At least he has decent boots on this time.

Beachy - best of luck to DD! As for why DS's results have only just come out - the school had them back in August with everyone else's, but chose to hold onto them until the start of term, leaving the 21st August bun fight to the Y11s. And great news about DH.

Rudy - where's DD off to? College presumably? Different place to her twin? Good luck to her too.

Legoland - aah, happy days. I love the wee models. And the Pirate Ship play thing, which only has one small entrance/exit, so you can post the shrieking offspring in, then relax outside with a coffee. Grin

Anyway, to the coalface....

Gosh Beachy that seems so quick since the results! Very best wishes to DD and the start of term. Is she going into halls? We also had the bung it all in if it fits style of packing.
Award for most useless item must be the clothes drier as dd mostly never washed a thing, modelling her room on 'Crack Den Chic'
Grin
Also delighted about dh's new job. I'm sure that's a load off.

Mrs S, who the hell is 'caring' for neighbour? It really shouldn't be you, unless agreed. I hope Social Services are involved on some level and can intervene given the escalation of this mans behaviour.
It's awful that he is taking up so much of you valuable time.

Mulberry Bush is fine. BTM do you mean eating and wining downstairs rather than the booked arrangement upstairs that time. Would we need to reserve a table?

wordassociationfootball · 04/09/2015 10:06

Rose - you are wonderful. Enjoy your conference.

Giddy - be wibble free. You are also wonderful.

Beachy - vodka, chocolate and Pot Noodle. You are a fab mum.

I would be yelling hysterically at your neighbour Mrs S Blush v exciting about your interview (2nd one)

Rudy - Severed deer's head? Grin

motherinferior · 04/09/2015 11:30

In S&B news, my favourite hair dye has been discontinued! Nooo!!!!

bigTillyMint · 04/09/2015 13:07

That's great about your DH's new job Beachy! Good Luck with the trip to drop DD1 off - love the shopping list!

CV, hope your DS has a great time.

Rudy, yes she has changed to a different school sixthform. She was very anxious before, so I am praying she has another good day!

Cremo, I was thinking the booking upstairs and platters thing we did before, but that depends on how many there are of us.

Sep 26th - who's up for it?

Mini herbs went back to school today, in a flurry of my panic. I hadn't got anything ready last night, due to Legoland-induced exhaustion, so had to get his PE kit etc ready this morning. He was all jolly as we walked to school, then went mute and stiff as soon as he joined his class line. I asked if he wanted me to stand with him, or go and talk to the mummies, and he hissed 'mummies', while folding his arms and jerking his in the direction of said mummies. His BFF wasn't there today to ease him in. So I went to assembly, and he saw I saw there and gave his cheeky 'trying not to smile' smile. So all is well.

Lots of little ones were crying when they saw their mums at assembly, and not wanting to go in. Sad

So now I've got to find a job. I'm thinking about EAL teaching, but don't even know how to get into it. Where on earth does one find this stuff out?

Hurrah Mr Beachy!

Love the uni shopping list. dd and I expressed our mutual anxiety about her impending departure this time last year by re-enacting the Generation Game: there is a box in the loft now with smoothie maker, coffee pot, obscure washing line device, teapots.....

MrsS, dd told me proudly this summer that she can now ask for things in shops (as a result of shedloads of work with the public this summer). If you had met her at 16 you would not have guessed this was an issue, unless you were around after the hairdresser left....... Apparent confidence/lack of it, I think they are sometimes two sides of the same coin. I remember dd telling me that some of the most talented actors at her school (v thespy) got the worse stage fright. Funny old thing I think. And extremely annoying to live with day to day.

Rosebag · 04/09/2015 16:20

Sorry to dump and run…but I have just found out quite by chance that DDad has moved into the home today. All the others (siblings) seem to know, and have gone there. After all the grief I've taken over this….I spoke to DM yesterday and we left it that if he was moving in before the end of the week, she'd text me and I'd come down on Fri after 12 and help.
Speechless….
Will catch up later.

Asking for things in shops - you wouldn't think that would be a Thing for our dc's generation, would you, but it is. I was shocked how much pfb was affected by it. He was relieved to find others at his current uni were not afraid to own up to it. Maybe it's because people/shopkeepers can be very rude indeed to teenagers, especially if they come across as a bit clueless. I found it hard to teach him to skills you need to avoid derision in shops; I think he's got them now. Smile But imo we're all at risk of derision on a bad [menopausal] day. Mumble mumble. A random thing - a chemist on holiday sold me some paracetamol and insisted on giving me samples of cream for "dark spots". The bloody cheek of it. I wonder if she spotted anything else wrong with me - some slimming pills might have been shoved over to me, presumably...

MollyLair · 04/09/2015 16:28

X post, Rose - sorry to hear that! Bloody families. Angry

Count me in for the 26th! Will be lovely to see you all. What time are we meeting?

Very well done to MrBeachy - I'm always so impressed with people who go for job interviews and actually get the job, as that is not something that ever happens in my household. I fall into jobs randomly via temping or being recommended, and dh only gets jobs where he is such a perfect fit on paper they decide to look past his awful, awful interview manner. He has had around 25 or 30 interviews in the past 5 years and not got a single job that way Sad but a lot of it is his attitude as he refuses to enthuse or learn new skills or do anything beyond saying "this is who I am, take me or leave me". And surprise, surprise, mostly they leave him. It's a shame as he is very good at his job, just bad at the self-presentation side of advancing in the workplace - it took me years to convince him that going out and getting slaughtered with your subordinates was not the way to get their respect.

Rose - sorry to hear about your family's rubbish communication and I hope you managed to get down to see your ddad and that the settling in process is ok.

Haven't managed to catch up on the rest of things, but will check back again as soon as I can.

DD2 managed to go to Post Office collection point today, which is about 25 minutes walk, and somewhere she has never been before, collect the parcel and come home. She was driven to it by knowing that the parcel was for her...

OMG! I am so excited - I have a new PC which is super-fast! And, thanks to the lovely computer man, there are NO ADs! MN looks a bit bareGrin

Lalsy, DD had the same problem asking for things in shops if not with a friend! I tried to model how to be really nice to shop assistants and tradesmen, etc and show that they do not judge you for asking silly questions if you are smiley about it! She managed to put in her disposable camera at Snappy Snaps to get a complicated USB and photos done, so maybe she is womaning-up?!

RoseAngry WTAF?

Day 2 for DD went wellSmile
And DS's HoY (and other teachers) couldn't believe her eyes when she saw DS on time and dressed to kill (with DH's old swaggy - I bought it for himWink - but broken watchGrin Fingers crossed the new him lasts for a while!

Lalsy · 04/09/2015 18:14

Molly, spot on I think about how people treat teens, and BTM yes, best thing is to smile I agree. MrsS hurrah for PO victory!

Rose, that is just awful.
