Following on from earlier thread, I was in Slingsby Place today.

eh?

DustBunnyFarmer · 08/08/2015 21:37

Ohhh, I get it. Just looked at their website and the prices of their boots have seemingly doubled overnight too. SO, SO glad I snapped up a pair of their biker boots at the end of last winter season for a very sensible price.

mrsdavidbowie · 08/08/2015 22:10

Sorry didn't mean to be cryptic. Posted in an alcoholic haze Smile
Yes I'm pissed off with the prices.

And the clearance bit has vanished. Seems like a rebrand and heist rolled into one. I'm a lot less inclined to use them in future, particularly as I found some Clarkes wide fit ones which did me fine last year. I'll be checking their winter stock in future before looking at the Duo site (as was), although it always used to be my first port of call for new boots.

DustBunnyFarmer · 08/08/2015 22:14

That should have said "I'll be a lot less inclined to check..."

polyhymnia · 09/08/2015 09:02

Is the Slingsby Place store actually open?

mrsdavidbowie · 09/08/2015 09:20

No. It's having a fairytale refit

OP posts:
marriednotdead · 09/08/2015 09:45

Just had a look at the fairytale website as I've had boots from Duo before. I will need a magic money tree to buy any more! Shock

mrsdavidbowie · 09/08/2015 11:46

I'm so cross. I have size 9 feet so am even more limited .
Hope my Florence boots can get through a 6th winter

I've unsubscribed. I had a look around he new site, the pair I clicked on didn't even have a picture of the front of the boot! I love the 2 duo pairs I have but the ankle is baggier than I like because although they fit to the leg they don't adjust other measurements. The new prices have definitely put me off enough to not bother with them in future.

I have bought from moda in pelle for my last 3 pairs of boots and stuck with ankle/calf length and I'm delighted with them plus each pair were real leather and £60-70 in the sale.

GrinAndTonic · 09/08/2015 12:44

Muffy? Really, Muffy?
I'm not sure if they are selling children's books about a rabbit or a bad 70's porno with lots of wild lady gardens.

Either way they are not getting my money, not at those prices.

polyhymnia · 09/08/2015 12:48

Oh how annoying that shop closed at moment. Was going up there tomorrow in desperate quest for shoes for son's wedding.

. Have now checked site. Agree with everyone re prices and ridiculous name. They used to be a cheaper option than R and B. No more.

CrystalMcPistol · 09/08/2015 13:22

What a cringey name! I wondered how much they paid for this ridiculous re-brand.

DustBunnyFarmer · 09/08/2015 14:55

Couldn't agree more. What the hell was wrong with their old name? I suppose this has the dubious benefit of sticking in the mind, though for all the wrong reasons.

I noticed they've also tweaked their sizing. Their 8 used to be a 42 and the 9 a European 43, but their 8 is now a 41, the 9 is now a 42 and they've changed the 43 to a 10. I'm wondering if they've adjusted everything for the US market, or something.

Everything about this revamp says: "fuck off, loyal customers!"

annatorpey · 13/08/2015 08:36

I totally agree with you DBF. That is exactly what they've done - given the old two fingers to their loyal customers. If they didn't like their branding they could have just redesigned the logo. It doesn't matter what the word is - the point is that we all know the name Duo like we know Asda, Tesco, Clarks etc etc. And yes two2, Duo HAD already got too big for their boots before this: you're quite right to point out that the fit has NEVER been good for slim legs because the ankles were always baggy! In light of the current price hikes I can't actually believe that I ever sent sale boots BACK! But I did because the fit was always rubbish!

annatorpey · 13/08/2015 08:41

PS I wonder what has happened to all of the 'normal' boots that were in last season's collection!!! The likes of Beech and Ravenna? You don't really need or indeed want fairytale boots when you're on playground duty.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 13/08/2015 08:43

Oh, is that what ted and muffy is? I got a spam email from them a few days ago and just deleted it without reading. I've had a few things from DUO over the years but never been that impressed with them, comfort wise.

saintlyjimjams · 13/08/2015 08:45

Do their marketing people not know what muff means??

Torps · 13/08/2015 08:53

Well I hope they're savvy enough to have someone reading these comments. Why on earth don't Next get in on the calf width market? Maybe it's honour amongst thieves!!

OOAOML · 13/08/2015 10:19

Are they not doing Ravenna any more?? Shock

I haven't had a proper look at the website so hadn't spotted prices. My instinctive reaction to the new name was that it is incredibly naff.

OsloGin · 13/08/2015 12:15

Hope this will lead to some hilarious marketing campaigns ...

21Oreos · 20/08/2015 10:46

I used to work for Duo :) Ted and Muffy were the names of the owners.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 20/08/2015 11:15

Well I bought a pair of over knee grey boots, very nice but expensive. The name is phenomenally stupid though.

EponasWildDaughter · 20/08/2015 13:01

I was going to post about this in AIBU i'm so cross!

Last year i promised myself that this year i'd buy myself a pair of Duo boots. Now due to the hike in price i can't bloody afford to! :(

noiwontstoptalking · 21/08/2015 23:44

They have now sent me three emails saying 'as you know Duo is now Ted &Muffy'.

I didn't know but sadly I've already stopped buying from themI I found that their quality has really dropped. My first pair of Duo boots lasted 6 years. I replaced them with identical boots which lasted 6 months.

Increased prices aren't going to tempt me back...
