Oh I meant to take ds to see that but think I may have missed it now!

Here a rainy windy day and we are all getting tired of the food which is largely unexciting and pedestrian. I am craving yoghurt and a decent Dahl.....

CointreauVersial · 02/08/2015 16:26

Watching the cycling. Earlier I dropped DS at GF's house, went to the end of her road to turn round.... and the peloton (Wiggins, Cav and all) shot past, about 2 metres from my car bonnet. Now back home watching them doing circuits around Dorking. I have two Polish colleagues flying in today; just about now they'll be standing outside the train station.... I've told them they'll have to walk to their accommodation.

hattymattie · 02/08/2015 16:33

Hello everybody - just back from a week in Somerset/Devon with no wifi. I've skim read the thread - I'm so sorry about your Mum MIThanks Thanks.

I've caught up with BTM, BD's and Beachy's hols via FB - including the very nerve wracking bungee jump!

We have had the most fabulous week in the UK, the weather cool, but sunny and tolerable, and the most fabulous hosts in our cottage. DS pronounced it the best ever holiday - so much for villa with pool in the South of France! He has done horse grooming, badger watching, newt fishing and all sorts of nature related things. Clearly we are a failure as parents in this respect. I would also add that the local people are some of the friendliest I've come across and a positive delight next to the French. We have visited Exeter and Bristol Uni's and I have to say Exeter was superb - even I wanted to enrol.

Very lucky yesterday as we set off really early because of Operation Stack and got on a half empty Shuttle and hour and a half earlier than booked. I was expecting hours of delays.

We have met up with DD and BF who got here from interrailing a day earlier than us and have spent the afternoon chilling and swapping holiday photos and stories.

cremolafoam · 02/08/2015 17:08

Ooh CV how exciting. What a thrill! I remember that feeling from the Giro last year, and seeing Quntana whizz past my work !

Hatty sounds like a wonderful week, esp fro ds. He seems to have found his calling, but not sure how you can follow up on that in ParisConfused perhaps there is an Ecole de peche pour les enfants.?

Just had a text from an old friend who I bumped into last week. Crepeys we were inseparable as small kids, and she came on hols with our family to France many times. I am so glad to have made contact after 30, (XXX, thirty) years.Smile

Mrs S , I am having the cat sitter issue myself. Not sure what to do as we are away for nearly a month. Usually dmil moves in, but this time she's not keen. Will have to think.
Hope you and others on their way this week have a great trip.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/08/2015 17:19

We are paying someone, Crem. I just hope they behave while we're away...

Blackduck · 02/08/2015 19:06

MrsS - you are PAYING - they have to deal Smile

Hatty - UK holidays can be okay Smile

Here tres weird day - I know that is partly because I know that next week the merde connects with the rotating thing at work, but there is nothing I can do...

Bungee jumping - meh - I want to go kite surfing......

cremolafoam · 02/08/2015 19:42

BD, I was thinking about you today and felt your blues. Sad
Hope you can enjoy your last couple of days and the kitesurfing , if that comes off. It may not be alright on your return , but we are here to get you through, right? RIGHT.ThanksThanksThanksThanksThanks

bigTillyMint · 02/08/2015 20:55

BD, yes I remember lots of eggs on Zanzibar, but also seem to remember some fabulous cheese and tomato jaffles? Kite surfing sounds cool - even I could fancy that!

Cremo, are there no teens around to do the biz for your moggy? MrsS, when do you go?

Hatty, glad you had a fab time in Cornwall, and decent weather too - I thought it was all torrential rain back home?

Looks like a grey day here. I am dragging DH to the Museum of Wearable Art and classic carsShock and leaving the teens for a lie-in (well DD needs to crack on, but...) Maybe there is kite - surfing here for this afternoon?

Stropperella · 02/08/2015 21:42

We had those couple of very wet days last week, but otherwise the weather here in the SW has not been too bad. And for the last 3 days here on the coast it's been pretty warm. BBQ weather anyway. And if you want to go kite surfing, come and stay with me and there are options a-plenty down the road at Portland :) Prob not as delightful as where BD is, but the sea creatures are less likely to want to eat you. Grin Kite surfing is a much tougher sport than it sounds, however.

Loving the holiday pics on FB. Particularly interested in Nelson, BTM, as that is where my ex-BiL lives and all his numerous progeny (i.e. dd's cousins). Dd would have so many people to visit if she ever went.

Here, we are mainly doing hedge-cutting (woot-woot), cleaning, work and dealing with on-going teen isshoos. The ante has been upped, sadly, but I am feeling strangely calm about it all, at least at the moment, and I am just trying to keep plodding on doing my best under somewhat trying circs.

bigTillyMint · 02/08/2015 21:58

Stropps, Nelson is lovely, even in the winter! We are staying high up on a hill overlooking the beach in a fab and huge apartment.just watching the waves (little ones!) roll in right nowSmile It seems to have a nice cafe/craft beer culture - more of that shortlyWink

Having Google kite surfing, I don't think it's a winter sport! I thought it was the one where you roll along the sand. Maybe that's kite-karting?

QueenQueenie · 02/08/2015 22:09

Sorry to hear dd is still vexing you Stropps. Do you think she is v anxious about impending AS results? Things might calm down once that bridge is safely crossed? Well done for remaining stoic in the face of provocation.

Your holiday sounds amazing BTM. Enjoy! And everyone else already kicking up their heels. Fingers crossed for you BD.

KOKO MI.

Kite surfing is a board a kite and water. Need about 10 hours to get as far as the board so not happening this holiday!!

I think I will be okay (ie not made redundant) bit if they take my team member then one wonders whether not being made redundant may not be a blessing as the workload remains. My next task will them be to inform management of what my team can and can't deliver going forward.

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 09:45

There's a kite surfing school at rustington near the flat. They go on the water but further along the coast where there are large green areas behind the seafront lots of yoofs seem to surf along the grass... Have nearly been mown down by them on more than one occasion.
Hols sounded great hatty. DS was also very impressed by Exeter university. And I massively approve of UK hols!!
BD glad your job is safe at least.

Aibu to be having a quieter day to myself? A lot of sightseeing on foot yesterday in sky high temperatures and then didn't feel so great last night. dC were being a pain at supper. I too think that DS is preoccupied by impending AS results. They now don't like it that I have announced an intention to have a shower and hair wash un disturbed and that I going to read my book, maybe mooch around the shops later or sit quietly by the pool. DH looks unimpressed too. Sheesh...

herbaceous · 03/08/2015 10:29

Rosebag - YNBU! I'd be dying for a day just like that myself under the circs. You are not the DCs' entertainment machine.

motherinferior · 03/08/2015 10:34

Rose, wot Herbs said. It might be time for a Judicious Wobbly.

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 10:55

Grin I have found a secret garden at the back of the hotel with a fountain, olive trees, palms, a lawn and chairs/tables and am hiding there with my iPad, and novel..... Tee hee

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 10:57

Secret garden

Though She Be Crepey, She Is FIERCE!
herbaceous · 03/08/2015 10:58

Make sure you disable the 'Find my Friends' thing on your iPad, then you can hide there all day!

Stropperella · 03/08/2015 11:00

Can't give details, but the GP is involved and dd has agreed to go to an appointment with my Dm, although whether this will come to pass is anyone's guess. And given given previous history, not sure what will happen. This is not just about results day, although that is clearly not helping.

KOKO, indeed.

hattymattie · 03/08/2015 11:00

Morning all - Rose - hope you got some chill time last night. What date do the results come out?

Have gone through three machine loads of washing and ironing and DD1's fabulous BF is tutoring DD2 in maths so she can hit the ground running next year. He already did a two hour session yesterday, she says he is brilliant and he says he enjoys doing itSmile.

We have officially finished the holidays - DH is bag to work today and the DC's are actually starting to organise themselves for next year. DD1 has found herself a job in England and is going to test the London/Paris bus was the Eurostar is unfortunately too expensive at short notice.

Stropperella · 03/08/2015 11:01

I could just hide behind the 8 foot weeds at the bottom of my garden. Grin

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 11:14

Flowers stropps

All hiding is good methinks. I am feeling better for the solitude and leafy shade. But they'll make me pay, in the end. They always do.... Hmm

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 11:16

AS results day is 13th.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2015 11:18

Agree re not being their entertainment machine, Rose. They can go off and do their own thing for a bit, surely? I had this when we went to Warsaw - I wanted a couple of hours to go off and do my own thing - to revisit old haunts, go and see if some shops I used to like were still there. I got outrage - they didn't speak Polish, how were they supposed to get about and make themselves understood? What if someone spoke to them? What should they do about food? I wanted to stab the lot of them at that point. And I never did get to mooch about for a bit on my own. The resentment is still there.

herbaceous · 03/08/2015 11:23

DP is having a career/life crisis, and is taking himself off for a few days next week to sort his CV, and hopefully have some kind of epiphany. All jolly good, I suppose, except it leaves me in charge of DS for four days and nights. Again. Which is all of course fiiiiiiine.... especially if I can 'bank' it and claim my own time away on my own. Perhaps in New York, for my 50th .
