Word - will pm you.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2015 18:07

In an anti-style and beauty post, I have bought some new jeans from Matalan. Blush They were cheap and they fit. I did not want to spend £££ on jeans, because I am slowly (I hope) losing weight. They stay up, they have a bit of lycra in them, and they are (just) long enough in the leg. If they only last the summer, I will be happy, as they only cost £10. I also got DD2 some lace trimmed ankle socks for 25p.

Auriga · 03/08/2015 18:19

Well done on smear, Herbs. And jeans, MrsS. I've decided not to attempt jeans for now. Haven't had any that fitted well for years.

We've delivered DD to her music theatre residential course. She was a little nervous and admitted that it's been a long time since she did something where she knew no-one at all. It seems soon for her to be away again Sad

Rosebag · 03/08/2015 18:26

Well done herbs on the smear appointment.

Great news on the jeans MrsS Matalan is much celebrated in these boards. We have a huge one not such a long drive away which I should visit....

I will look for you on FB waf The toilet will presumably be my next port of call if the buggers discover my secret garden. Grin

Passed a better afternoon round the pool with increasing amounts of time
( on my part) on the nice squashy sofas in the shade. We are all convivial and cordial again. It won't last though. I do fear that the Med in July/August is now too hot for me. And that comes from someone who regularly roasted herself with a basting of Baby Oil in years gone by. Must be the progressive Crepeyness...

QueenQueenie · 03/08/2015 18:30

Greetings everyone.
Love the secret garden Rose - reckon we could all do with having one of those at our disposal - in a similar mood to yours I tend to just take to my bed with a cup of tea, a book and a firmly shut door.

Greetings Grumpy - if your user name is accurate you should stay - you'll fit right in!

Have had lovely lunch with my ddad and dh - most decadent for a Monday - now reclining on sofa feeling rather tired after a glass of wine in the middle of the day . We went to a tile shop afterwards in our ongoing eternal quest for new bathroom tiles (7 months and counting) and found that being a bit squiffy was a definite advantage. Tiles chosen. Job done.

Why has dh taken a crappy job Beachy??
Why is dp having a crisis Herbs and why on earth does he need to disappear for days on end to deal with it Hmm??

Love to all...

Can't find waf on FB...someone let me know what you have added her....

QQ does lounging on the outdoor sofas with a mojito and a book count?

Sorry about beachy and herbs other halves' work woes....I'm afraid we have our own dramas going on in that department which I can't post about..... Here there is now an argument going on about where to have supper...it's just food ffs...and dietary restrictions en famille mean we can only have about 2 things on the menu anyway... Grin the waiters give us strange looks with our "...sans des fruits de mer...sans jambon..." Confused

bigTillyMint · 03/08/2015 19:59

Hope you escaped Rose - I did similarly yesterday. Well teen - free morning with DH, then I stayed home whilst they went for a run on the beachWink
I did, however, manage a family meal out at a local pub last nightSmile

Early start today for ferry to Welly. Need to pack up as we leave in 45!

motherinferior · 03/08/2015 20:04

Me and WAF is Facebook buddies now, innit.

motherinferior · 03/08/2015 20:05

I now have earworm of 'I never promised you a rose garden'GrinGrinGrin.

GOB, fancy hanging on here?

herbaceous · 03/08/2015 20:06

Hmm. When DP first mooted the idea of going away to contemplate his career navel I thought fair enough. But now I'm wondering.... He's desperate to get out of his current job, but he's not getting any interviews. He doesn't know if this is because of the nature of his current employer (bad rep) or because he's tilting at the wrong windmills. So he's going away to totally rethink what he wants to do, re-do his CV, talk to various people who know stuff, etc. Get it sorted once and for all, rather than looking glumly at a laptop every night. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

He is spending his own, not faaaaaamily, money on the venture.

Ah yes - matalan jeans. My jeans are from matalan. I've had them for over a year, and worn them most weeks, and they're good as new. And about £20 I seem to recall.

beachyhead · 03/08/2015 21:54

My dh is contemplating his career on his one drive home from crappy job tonight! I reckon there will be a lot of navel gazing during the rest of the week.... Not literally, I hope!

CointreauVersial · 03/08/2015 22:27

Another one with a career-troubled DH. He has had a promotion dangled in front of him like a carrot for years now, but there's always something which causes it to be snatched away (recession, recruitment freeze, reorganisation, blah blah blah). Now he is destined to be sold off next summer it has become even more critical. He raised the issue with "boss squared" but was brushed aside; apparently the focus is on other things, and no promotions are happening right now. Guess what happened last week? Yes, "boss squared" has been promoted. Angry It really isn't fair.

CointreauVersial · 03/08/2015 22:33

But it's not all bad in Chateau Cointreau - my luvverly Polish colleagues gave me a bottle of cherry vodka liqueur for all my help with their travel arrangements. It's going down very nicely.

beachyhead · 03/08/2015 22:35

Sorry, in answer to your question QQ, he officially retired from his job in March, at which point his previous department offered him, what looked liked a cushy job, with masses of flexibility, respect, integration with other teams blah blah... Anyway, as the time went on, the goalposts were shifted considerably, pay cut, office moved, but he chose to ignore it, got the job and now he has to do it.... So he's biding his time until until something better comes up. However had he had a plan...... And I'm saying nothing.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/08/2015 22:50

What is it with all of these men and mid life crises? DH says he is going to resign and become a consultant (he has a friend in the same line of work who can get him work, he has been assured). I have suggested he apply for voluntary redundancy, to give us a cushion in case he doesn't get the work he thinks he will.

I am contemplating applying for a job overseas for a year. It is sufficiently close to be able to come home most weekends, or for the DDs and DH to come over. I have a huge number of friends there, and it is really tempting.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/08/2015 07:20

The Man Upstairs has been at the door for at least the last half hour. DH is talking to him. He was banging at 1130 last night too. I am refusing to engage and just go and get DH. If DH isn't in, I don't answer, but he will stand there banging for well over an hour, and seems to spend most of his time standing outside our flat. I am at the end of my tether now.

lalsy · 04/08/2015 07:34

Wotcha crepeys. Feeling very creaky and bashed by the sea but it is wonderful to be here despite odd weather and tides.

Stropps, good on you for KBO. I hope the gp visit goes ahead and is helpful. I think it is very stressful waiting for results as you forget about them for a while and about now remember and realise you haven't a clue how you did an real life seems a long way away.

I asked me do a few months ago if he would like to shift job in the fullness of time to something that takes a bit less of a toll on him. He didn't Hmm.

Mrs S, that sounds very tempting.

Rose, I like the sound of your garden.

lalsy · 04/08/2015 07:37

Dh not me!

Blackduck · 04/08/2015 07:59

Right, finally caught up!
Herbs - good on smear and hope dp sorts himself out.

Beachy DH needs to sort himself out - if he missed the signs that's his lookout (as long as he is not taking it out on you)
Rose - hide all you want - I recommend it! Dp and I go for (lone) walks - as long as one of us is around to check ds hasn't drowned it's fine.

MI - Happy Birthday to Mr MI - loving the idea of a Tai Chi party.

Here last day on the beach and the rain/wind have stopped and it's scorching.

We have a very nice restaurant booked tonight in Stone Town (I really could do with a good meal!) and then one last mooch and shop tomorrow before heading home.

It's been great but work thing less so - I am okay (officially) but one of my team isn't - the fight goes on.

Blackduck · 04/08/2015 08:00
