dh usually buys me a bottle for xmas, I have chanel mademoiselle, Ralph lauren romance and shalimar but I have no idea what to get this year, had a smell of the new D&G the one?? but that reminded me of a calvin klein fragrance.

Would you trust your DH/DP to make their own judgement and buy a bottle or do you always tell them which one you would prefer.

has anyone tried any of the Roberto Cavelli??? perfumes

my perfume collection is very poor! 2 bottles...two very old bottles I hasten to add...infact they could be from the last time I went near any duty free lounges...which was on my honeymoon (7 years ago!!!!)
I have a bottle of Anais Anais
and a bottle of Estee lauder "Beautiful"

I have asked dh for perfume for xmas...not sure which one though....i need to go and smell some I think!

MrsBadger · 17/11/2006 11:24

Have tried, and failed, many different perfumes over the years - DH has a very sensitive and conservative nose (to the extent I can't use the Herbal Essences fruity shampoos because they 'make my hair smell of jam') and is very suspicious of new perfumes.

The only one that's been a lasting success is, unglamourously, Oceanus from the Body Shop, which for some reason I went through a glut of being given years ago. In fact, I worked out the reason DH likes it so much is that it was what I used to wear way back at university when we fancied each other rotten but were going out with other people.

However, I've also recently been given lots of the Flowers stuff from the White Company, which is going down well - this is a Good Thing as I'd be stuck if the Body Shop discontinued the Oceanus stuff...

[ at how much this sounds like sourcing a backup cuddly toy for when Best Rabbit goes missing...]

Coco Chanel

Chanel No. 5

Par Amour by Clarins

tortoiseshell · 17/11/2006 11:25

There are a few I like, but I always come back to Dune.

Fattymumma · 17/11/2006 11:29

i wear D&G femine daily as it is light enough.

I like Kenzo flowers, Ghost Deep night and the pink ghost (can't remember what its called though)

but my fave atthe moment is one i thought was a real old lady perfume until i actualy smelt it...Cerrutti 1881, its lovely.

JackieNo · 17/11/2006 11:39

Currently wearing Grace, by Philosophy, but don't wear perfume very much these days. I wouldn't really be happy with someone picking something for me - I like to try them on and live with them for a while before deciding whether they're for me or not.

Went through a phase of wearing various Jil Sander perfumes, notice there's a new one out and would like to have a try of that one. Did once try on the Chopard Casimir, and loved it, but definitely an evening fragrance, imo.

tonton · 17/11/2006 13:05

ooh i had a lovely jill sander perfume - can't remeber the name.
I love Guerlain's Shalimar, Parfum de Therese by editions de parfum (or something like that) ooh and they also do Musc Ravageur which I love.

Gingerbear · 17/11/2006 13:20

Lime Basil and Mandarin by Jo Malone. (light)
DH has bought me this and Pomegranite (sp?) Noir (sultry) for Christmas.
Jo Malone perfumes can be combined (ie worn together)
Jo Malone Amber and lavender is lovely for men.

bobobobs · 17/11/2006 13:28

gingerbear or other lucky mnetters with jo malone perfumes, where do you buy them from? do you need to go to a dept store to get a tester of them?
(love your name btw gingerbear!)

donnie · 17/11/2006 13:33

the only one for me is First by Van Cleef and Arpels.

DH wears Fahrenheit by Dior.

JackieNo · 17/11/2006 13:35

bobobobs, I've browsed the Jo Malone website (you can buy direct from there), but no idea where you get samples from, so haven't bought yet either for that reason.

JessaJam · 17/11/2006 13:36

I like Eden by cacherel...no one has mentioned that one...so go one then, tell me, what is the social stigma attached to Eden that I am unaware of?!

bobobobs · 17/11/2006 14:11

thanks jackieno, will have a look at it

marthamoo · 17/11/2006 14:15

Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel and Clarins Eau Dynamisante - but not at the same time

KTeepee · 17/11/2006 14:17

if no one has mentioned it already, I like Space NK's own range. Different "types" to choose from. I think i would happily send dh in there (in fact the reason I know about them is because he bought me some there last Christmas..)

scatterbrain · 17/11/2006 14:20

Hi - inspired by this thread to try Jo Malone perfumes I have just ordered some samples from a woman on ebay - she does 5 x3ml decants for £19 plus about £3 p&p

Without travelling FAR to a shop it's about the only way I could find to sample them and not commit £30 to a fragrance I might not like !

On ebay I just searched Jo Malone and she was there on the second page I came to.

Hope that helps !

MrsMills · 17/11/2006 14:22

me- issey miyake (have done for over 10 years)
dh - vera wang (delish)

scatterbrain · 17/11/2006 14:22

Meant to also say - I am an Issey Mikaye girl, although I also wear Pure Grace by Philosophy !

JackieNo - we converge again - are we twins ?

bobobobs · 17/11/2006 14:26

thanks scatterbrain

JackieNo · 17/11/2006 15:47

Scatterbrain - spooky.

Gingerbear · 17/11/2006 22:25

bobobobs,
I took a chance on lime basil and mandarin first time and ordered via the jo malone website. I love citrus fragrances anyway,so knew I would love it.
Last year DH bought me a set of 6 x 9ml bottles of different perfumes to try.
This year we went to the shop in Leeds - it was heaven!

bobobobs · 17/11/2006 22:49

ooh, now i know what my dh can get me for chrimbo! a great idea to get small sample sizes b4 you commit to anything more expensive. thanks!!

Adorabelle · 17/11/2006 23:52

Whenever I wear Chanel Allure Senselle I get so
many compliments, it's a lovely purfume but V. expensive & the only reason I wear it is cos my dh got it 'knock off' from bloke at uni
