So there. :)

OP posts:
herbaceous · 29/06/2015 13:03

All I know is she sang Let it Go in blasted Frozen. Had never heard of her before that. But I'm not a big fan of show music. Never seems to get to the tune...

And yes - I was going to suggest dog-walking to add to cat sitting, but worried about the 'walking' part!

I am on Mumsnet a lot. I am supposed to be writing yet more reflective essays. The two are not unconnected.

hattymattie · 29/06/2015 13:48

Herbs - coming to sit with you on the Hag Bench - I put on what I thought was a reasonable outfit until I caught sight of myself in a shop mirror and wanted to throw everything I was wearing in the bin.

DD1 is much recovered but DD2 had a bizarre French literature oral which seemed mostly a chat about her university apirations rather than all the French texts she has spent weeks learning. We have no idea how it went - I think it is bad news to be the last candidate before lunch.

bigTillyMint · 29/06/2015 13:49

Ah. As my DC are too old for that, it didn't register!

Rosebag · 29/06/2015 14:12

Idina Menzel…dunno, Glee, Rent, Wicked, Frozen (voice over), If/Then, recording artist. Up for the part of Fanny Brice in the new production of Funny Girl, I think. Fancies self as a bit of a latter day Streisand, I think.

Hatty I'm always doing that…leave the house thinking I look ok…then catch glimpse in a shop widow or see a photo and wanna die… Hag No 3 right here..

herbaceous · 29/06/2015 14:24

I seem to remember there was a crepey ban on referring to ourselves in negative terms, reference to hags, etc. But good lord. Sometimes it gets too much!

BTW, any crepeys in town next Thursday? I have to hand my final assignment in (which I have yet to start, ahem) and it would be a chance for a coffee/something stronger!

cremolafoam · 29/06/2015 14:53

Maybe little dogs that would help by back by exercising a bit?
I would have to draw the line at anything bigger than a QQ style Bedlington.Grin 20 cats a day seems scary tbh.

herbaceous · 29/06/2015 15:19

Or maybe dogs that could tow you along in your vehicle of choice? Sled, skateboard, sedan chair...

cremolafoam · 29/06/2015 16:00

Exactly Herbs, like Boudicca ( honorary crepey with attitude)with hounds in place of horses pulling a gilt carriage.
Liking it.Grin

cremolafoam · 29/06/2015 18:45

Stop it hags mature beauties ! Red lipstick at the ready, get out there and shake your funky stuff. Wine I may just take up drinking again. I think I might need to.

hattymattie · 29/06/2015 19:20

I can confirm that owing to DH insisting that we take all our holiday in July, we will be looking after a friend's dog in August. DS will be paid for the dog walking which I shall inevitably end up doing.Hmm

cremolafoam · 29/06/2015 19:22

I can come to Paris and walk your dog Hatty ( hopeful)Wink

hattymattie · 29/06/2015 20:05

If I could get shot of the rest of them we could have a lovely calm summer Crem.Smile

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/06/2015 22:09

Oh yes, a calm crepey summer in a beautiful old house somewhere in France, with a lovely garden, a swimming pool, a nice restaurant or two within staggering distance, no moaning men, whining teens, shitting cats or anything else. Bliss.

Think I am going to send my little dears to Scotland for a week to learn to do fancy baking.

beachyhead · 29/06/2015 22:44

Aaaah, the four teenagers we have in the house are all set for inter railing tomorrow for three weeks. First time my pfb has been away for that long. All a bit scary. DH is driving them to Gatwick at 330am and then we see her again in France at a regional airport!

MollyAir · 30/06/2015 00:16

Crem, you are a rock for being so stoic. It's particularly galling to be so treated when you have your own health problems. Sad

Herbs, I'm in London next Thursday 2 July and could meet any time between about 11.30am and 6pm - so coffee, lunch or tea, whatever, wherever.

Re hagdom - the one, paltry advantage of dysmorphia is that having spent one's entire youth feeling like a shapeless blob, there is no shock at any perceived loss with age. Grin

Or as Bob Dylan would have it:

When you ain't got nothin
You got nothin to lose
You're invisible now
No secrets to conceal

Doesn't feel too bad, really. Grin

bigTillyMint · 30/06/2015 06:45

Like finishing school, MrsS?!

DD has had another round of being rude, again about money. This is all to do with Prom hair and beauty. I have now decided to give her some money towards it and then it's up to her how she spends it/adds to it if necessary. She still needs to check how I have altered her dress and I still have to take it up, but I have the distinct feeling that it won't be rightSad

MrsSchadenfreude · 30/06/2015 07:44

Haha - no, BTM. I have a friend who is a professional cook, who has offered to teach them both how to make macarons and fancy cakes.

motherinferior · 30/06/2015 07:48

Morning all. I have dispatched Lovely Cousin on her train to see friends for a couple of days and am swigging sipping espresso in glorious peace before embarking on reading more about the Madras Military AsylumGrinGrin.

cremolafoam · 30/06/2015 07:48

Oh Beachy, how daunting , but exciting for dd. my own inter railing experience was the making of me I think. She will have a ball. Like your circuitous travel arrangements too.

My own holiday can't come quick enough, although today's weather may make up for the wait. Scorchio

motherinferior · 30/06/2015 07:56

I wish you hadn't outlined that tantalising vision, MrsS.

I do slightly hanker after hiring the little cottage we've stayed in, in deepest Cornwall, to stay and write in. The two Nice Men who own it like having arty retreats there. I might bribe myself with a stay there after the next rewrite. DP, btw, is indulging in a weekend of The Martial Art That Dare Not Speak Its Name next weekend. This is all incredibly inconvenient - no idea what the girls will do during my afternoon rehearsal, don't want to lumber LC with them, etc etc, but he got self-righteously self-pitying about how much he's done for my family and so forth. Problem is, he can and does present his week in the summer of TMATDNSPIN as thoughtful childcare rather than pricey self-indulgenceAngryAngry

bigTillyMint · 30/06/2015 08:02

Beachy, hope they have a ball, and keep in touch enough that you aren't worrying the whole time.

Blackduck · 30/06/2015 08:26

BTM I hope dd wasn't as rude as a young lad we all overheard on the train yesterday. Honestly if ds ever speaks to me like that he will be grounded for life. as one other passenger said in a very loud voice 'I wonder what his last slave died of'......

Here I feel very :( I know this is due to lack of governance interview and the unremitting rubbish at work. Yesterday's gift was an email to mangers entitled ' Ways to thank your staff'. Make them all redundant??!

Plus I have 11 days of childcare and dog sitting to come (with work on top...)

Rosebag · 30/06/2015 09:01

My parents never allowed me to do anything…no inter railing, no gap year. Good luck to Beachy's DD and friends…hope they have a great time.

Sympathies, Tilly re DD and prom beautification, money etc. But they are under terrible pressure to conform to all sorts of ideals, aren't they. I was gobsmacked that the girls in DS2's year had a sort of web page to post pics of their prom dresses in advance to check they were all unique… Shock And they all had spray tans and professional make up. I felt sick…and very grateful to have boys…dunno what DD will be like next year though….

MrsS did you get washed away in the flood….or maybe your neighbour has? Grin

MI friend of ours who have a considerably posher than ours place on the Sussex coast rent out for 6 months every year to a writer. Just sayin'….. Grin

BD Sad

Herbs/Molly did you meant this Thurs or next?

I am being gelled and pedied this morning, working with ConS this afternoon and trekking across the wilderness to DS's school for the Summer music concert…he won't tell me what he's doing but no solos I think, due to exams, but certainly some singing and accompanying. I am wondering if the arse who is supposed to be doing our path will even bother to turn up….if he doesn't I hope he got dysentery at Glasto…
unkind Blush

hattymattie · 30/06/2015 09:59

Beachy - my DD1 is off interrailing next week. Just her and her boyfriend though. I have imposed total rest this week after her weekend of random illness.

Talking of rude teenagers - I do think in trying to avoid the severity of our parents, we may have gone too far in the opposite direction. They have to understand the world doesn't owe them a living. I have to say though, we have had various friends of DD1 dropping in over the last week and they have been lovely - and talk to me as if I'm normal and not as if I have two heads.

Great hilarity at gym this morning trying to teach sexy instructor to pronounce Norwich without the"w". He's off training teenagers in England for the summer.

motherinferior · 30/06/2015 11:23

Hmm. I came home with DCousin yesterday and found DD1 and two of her mates hanging around looking hot and dishevelled outside our house. They said hello politely, smiled, and were generally a credit to teenagers everywhere. Grin
