Not sure if I should be starting the new thread as I'm the last poster on the old one - is this how it works?

OP posts:
motherinferior · 15/06/2015 21:07

Oh, and the Elsa riff isn't because of the book - DD1 told me (they're doing this for yoof theatre): I knew the rest about Boris. Whose real name was William Henry Pratt.

I must return to 1840s CalcuttaGrin.

lalsy · 15/06/2015 21:41

MI, Grin

bigTillyMint · 15/06/2015 21:53

Great Lalsy/Addle and WAF. I have/will PM everybody.

herbaceous · 15/06/2015 22:12

WAF - that made I larf. As did Mrs S and her Albert Square style funeral japes.

A glance at the house calendar reveal that DP has booked 26 June for something. He may yet. to go, and I can hightail it to SE London.

QueenQueenie · 15/06/2015 22:13

Sorry, late to the party...
BTM, could you pm me the details - I'd love to come out to play but it depends a bit on what the teens are up to as dh is away then. Could you pm me the details? I'll let you know if I can come nearer the time... Ta.

beachyhead · 15/06/2015 22:34

Oh god, dh has installed his late fathers stereo in the sitting room, which is encased in an attractive bronze stand and is currently playing jazz (which he knows I have a pathological hatred of)..... It's the beginning of the end Grin. Still, off to Barca tomorrow for three days for a conference at the wrong end of town. Hola!

Good news, crepeys - DS has tried on the Highly Flammable Cheap Suit from Matalan...... it fitted like a glove, and he loved it. Result. Smile

Funeral done. Wiped. Can't believe it's not bedtime yet...

Blackduck · 16/06/2015 17:03

Have a lie down MI......

Here I have bought a bikini (my first in at least 20 years...) what on earth possessed me?

Rosebag · 16/06/2015 18:11

MI I am awed at the high level reading going on. Right now, mine is at the level of MN S&B… Have you managed to have a bit of a rest?

lalsy and Tilly hope the DC's last GCSEs went well! "And relax…" indeed.

CV Hooray for Matalan! They just want to look cool, don't they…hope he doesn't light up behind the bicycle shed…Quite a good disincentive, actually…

Bon Voyage Beachy Envy

Sounds fantastic NU

Sorry about the insomnia, WAF but you seem to have a smile on your face…. salacious Grin

Go you BD…linky?

Cautious optimism Crem?

Phew, have I caught up? Just popped in from Year 10 revision hell…desperately looking for something to stand between me and madness. Had a good writing session with ConS today though, right across lunchtime. I guess that's what's called Taking A Long Lunch. Much sushi was eaten… that's something, I guess Smile

Tomorrow, I have been persuaded to have coffee with Maestro The Terrible… Hmm

motherinferior · 16/06/2015 18:59

Am finally home via the library and deli. Have books, mangoes, flatbreads, the curry I made yesterday and wine.

QueenQueenie · 16/06/2015 20:22

I have officially failed as a parent. Ds1 tells me that once his A levels are finished he wants to buy Grand Theft Auto. Shoot me now.

Blackduck · 16/06/2015 21:10

QQ Grin
Bikini was cheaply m&s number in the sale so can't link. Navy and white strip, halter neck, under wired but NO padding...... Looks okay(ish) I think dp might faint when he sees all that pale wobbly flesh on display :)
Rudy. Glad work thing is sorted.

Funeral next week here too...

Meanwhile work goes from bad to worse so I am trying not to think about it.

Grin QQ - at least your DS waited until he was "officially" old enough for GTA - we had DS begging for a copy at 14 (the answer was No Way José).

BD - you will look perfectly wonderful in a bikini - you are very trim.

hattymattie · 17/06/2015 06:37

QQ - sounds like you have raised a decent boy who has his priorities in the right order. He is now of age for GTA and from what I understand it is one of the "milder" games. I am always shocked by the number of 11/12 year olds who seem to play this, and other stuff whilst the parents just shrug.

Incidentally, there was a mail sent to parents yesterday warning them about Moviestarplanet on which several 8 year old girls at the school had received indecent proposals. It seems to practically be a grooming site.

BD - well done on the bikini - I don't think I've the courage - I need to find one of those shorts ones.

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2015 07:16

QQGrin that you have failed as a parent! Lots of my little lovelies talk about playing GTA at home and I would be very, very surprised if DS hadn't played it round at a mates. Haven't heard of MoviestarPlanet though.

Go BD!
The only plus point about the weather on our forthcoming NZ jaunt is that I will not need to sport any swimwear. Well apart from the natural hot-springs pools!

MontserratCaballe · 17/06/2015 08:45

QQ, I don't know much about GTA as mine are too young to have come across it but at least he is the right age (he is the one off to the fens to study medicine, I think?). As others have said, many really young children will have played this at a much younger, and totally inappropriate, age. Can it be classed as harmless post exam switch off time, in the same way we'd settle down in front of Poldark or with a Jilly Cooper? Poor comparisons, but you know what I mean I hope Smile

Crepeys, I have made a terrible cock up and need advice. DH bought me a v expensive (and v hideous) scarf for Christmas. I explained it wasn't really my colour and he said I could change it. I looked at the receipt and thought I had 6 months to change it, so every time he nagged I said I was well within time. Quelle surprise, I have read the wrong bit and it's gift vouchers which have a 6 month life span. Exchanges are 3 months so I am way out. What to do? Go to shop and beg? Fess up? Emigrate? Discreetly Ebay and buy a (much cheaper) replacement? I came home a week ago with different coloured hair which he didn't notice, so the chances of him spotting it's a cheaper fake are minimal. Any advice gratefully received.

bigTillyMint · 17/06/2015 09:07

Go to the shop and beg. You may get a credit note if you're lucky. If that doesn't work, Ebay (CV is the expert)?

herbaceous · 17/06/2015 09:21

Crepeys, hold me.

It's my final summative teaching observation at lunchtime. My tutor from the institute is coming to observe, along with an external examiner. It is pass or fail. If I fail, I fail the course. NO PRESSURE THEN.

It's going to be totes emosh. It's the last class of the year, and the last class for ever together for these students, as the class is being cut next year. They've all become so close, and so supportive of each other, and to many it's been a lifeline. They're having a party in the second half of the class. I think I may cry.

lalsy · 17/06/2015 09:25

Herbs, we're cheering you on all the way! Am sure you will be great.
