I asked for something different that would suit me and this is what I now have.

Can anyone who had this hairstyle 20 years ago give me an idea as to how long it will take to grow out?

Also, fuck my life Sad

Deirdre how well has it grown out since September?

Well if it makes you feel any better, I went to get my blonde hair dyed today, asked for it to be warmer ( think Amanda Holden), and its actually come out more a dull grey colour! I got home looked in the mirror and burst I into tears!
( and, the girl who did my hair was so lovely and caring and kept telling me how nice it would look I actually tipped her!!!)

DeidreChambersWhatACoincidence · 27/05/2015 22:35

I'm getting there. I guess it's grown around 3.5" - my hair helpfully grows at a glacial speed Hmm I took Biotin for a while, not sure it did much.

He set about it with those damn texturising scissors (never never again) so although the length is growing I've still got some major bitty layers to grow out. I want it in a graduated bob. Now probably have the length mainly speaking but oh, the sides! I really need them to grow in and thicken up to get the look I want.

I hate going to salons. I'd rather go to the dentist.

yazzy85 · 27/05/2015 22:36

what is the difference between a bob and a rachel cut? my hairdresser does lots of layers through my shoulder length hair, not sure which one of these it would be!

NoelHeadbands · 27/05/2015 22:41

The Rachel was described as a bob sat atop longer flicked out layers I think. I actually adored it at the time, couldn't have it though as GHD's weren't yet invented

chibi · 27/05/2015 22:42

I had a texturising scissors incident and came out with layers two inches long on the top of my head

It was ghastly and you have my sympathies

It doesn't look too bad to us but only you know how you feel. I would get the ends chopped and go for a sharper bob, easier to style and then you can grow it down.

There is something about being in the chair that used to leave me powerless, as they chat away scissor happy.

I once had to have time off school to get used to my vile short hair do, courtesy of the hairdresser who did normally only blue rinses down the road.

I once had my past shoulder length hair hacked just past my chin and cried afterwards for days. (mid 20s!)

Then the choppy layers came in. I'd say no short layers, get home and see them springing up on the back of my head and I knew once washed I'd never style it.

Ever since, I have to remember to say stop, let me check and put my hand up to my hair to check and ask for a mirror sometimes.

Even the good ones get complacent with those scissors.

usmama · 28/05/2015 01:00

Chibi it's not so bad! Just get the bottom chopped a bit like Edith suggests

usmama · 28/05/2015 01:02

oops and everyone else, didn't see the last 3 pages Blush

MyFirstName · 28/05/2015 08:43

How does it look this morning chibi?

EuphemiaCoxton · 28/05/2015 08:56

I had brillo pad fine hair in my teens, and TONS of it. No matter what you asked for in the 90s at the salon you'd come out with a rachel. I looked like a mushroom, all the top layers puffed right up.
I don't think that's a total rachel but I think he's done the top layers too thick. I hate when they do that.
Get it bobbed. Or like a 20s haircut, not the sleek bob the choppy, wavy, shingled one.

I want a choppy bob now. My hair is that sort of curly naturally

chibi · 28/05/2015 10:35

it is still feculent but better curly - it is somehow less curly than usual, more wavy and bouncy.

it does not look like a style that anyone would have on purpose, but like I am growing something out (WHICH I AM DEAR LORD)

i have made an appointment with the woman who rescued my hair from thinning shears hell, i will see her in 4 weeks time asby then it will have grown a bit (?)

meanwhile i am massaging my scalp, taking vitamins etc.

it does not look like a rachel too much today, but still shite

No matter what I ask for, I get a Rachel. Every bloody time. It's so weird. I reckon a host of hairdressers were trained to do that cut in the 90s and it's really all they know how to do well

TurnItIn · 28/05/2015 16:52

I feel for you but bloody hell you've really, REALLY made me laugh.

hippospot · 28/05/2015 17:14

I have just had a bad haircut today, so I really really sympathise.

I probably think it looks worse than other people. We always see our own "flaws" for want of a better word.

Right, off to buy a hat....

EmeraldThief · 28/05/2015 17:34

So many hairdressers these days just don't know how to cut hair properly IMO. They can colour and style, but they can't actually do a decent cut to save their lives. My mums hairdresser who goes to her house did a trim for me just before xmas because I couldnt get in my regular hairdresser. It looked great and it was so much easier to style, because she actually cut it properly!

I swear there should be some kind of rating system for hairdressers, so many of them are utterly usless and don't listen to what you want.

hippospot · 28/05/2015 17:53

Compare what I asked for and what I got

Wash it and mess it up a bit. It will be fine :)

GooodMythicalMorning · 28/05/2015 18:01

They seem to have cut too much off the front and not layered hippo.

They always get mine wrong. I have really thick curly hair.

hippospot · 28/05/2015 18:02

Thanks. At least it will grow. I just feel so unfeminine.

GooodMythicalMorning · 28/05/2015 18:11

Could you add a bit of wave to it? Or add some styling mousse to make it look a bit more choppy?

chibi · 28/05/2015 18:15

It might look better once it has had a few days to settle.

I have washed mine and now it looks like this
