I asked for something different that would suit me and this is what I now have.

Can anyone who had this hairstyle 20 years ago give me an idea as to how long it will take to grow out?

Also, fuck my life Sad

I agree with you, I don't like the cut. I would go shorter for sure to even it out, like Taylor Swift at the minute.

If it is any consolation, it looks LOVELY and thick and healthy.

SpecificOcean · 27/05/2015 19:42

I don't think it's very Rachel. More Tara from SOA season 6.
I like Burnishedsilver's pic- I reckon you could do that.

I like the colour.

Actually don't think it looks like a Rachel cut

Thisishowyoudisappear · 27/05/2015 20:32

It's not as bad as you think. You have nice hair! I agree with those telling you to get that bottom couple of inches taken off. That's the most dated part of the style.

goodasitgets · 27/05/2015 20:33

Do you ever wear it curly? I would be tempted to wash it and see what it looks like with curls

burnishedsilver · 27/05/2015 20:51

I just realised I said it was "that bad". I meant "NOT that bad"!!!!!!!
Sorry.

GaryBaldy · 27/05/2015 21:09

YY to styling it curly, it really isn't as bad as you make out.

nilbyname · 27/05/2015 21:29

Chop off the long bits. Have a shortish choppy Bob instead.

I had the Rachel, it's a fucker.

LizzieVereker · 27/05/2015 21:34

Yes chop the bottom bit off and go curly. It's a lovely colour though.

I have accidentally had the same haircut for about a millennium. EVERY time I go to the hairdresser, I ask for it to look different, she tries, it looks different when she's done. Then the next day it has slunk back into its usual style. It's Groundhog hair. I swear this would happen even if I had a perm and died it green.

KnitFastDieWarm · 27/05/2015 21:38

I came out looking like the love child of Rod Stewart and Anthea Turner

Pmsl at this highly evocative mental image!Grin

KnitFastDieWarm · 27/05/2015 21:42

Honestly op I was expecting much worse stripey highlights

The colour makes it look much more current. Give it a wash tomorrow to remove the hairdresser poufyness and see how you feel!

User543212345 · 27/05/2015 21:42

Why not chop it all off and go pixie instead? There's a short cut to suit all face shapes and they're so much easier and more attractive than longer hair imho.

DosDuchas · 27/05/2015 21:50

i LOVE the Rachel

coldofhands · 27/05/2015 21:50

I had a Rachel cut in last September Confused I showed the hairdresser a picture of a long choppy Bob, and still came out looking like it was 1996 all over again. ffs!

I have mad waves so used Kate from The simple things (I think?) tutorials to style it until it grew out. Lots of messy buns etc all done with my hair wavy meant it was only me who knew how shit it looked otherwise

DosDuchas · 27/05/2015 21:50

have seen pic

backcomb it a bit

DosDuchas · 27/05/2015 21:52

Op when I was 40 I went to hairdresser and said i wanted to grow my hair really long before I died.

the fucker just said ' uh huh" and trimmed it

FORTY

gatlinout · 27/05/2015 22:01

Sympathies.

I got given a Rachel once. Had a groupon voucher for highlights and cut but the hairdresser used a cap rather than foils and because my hair was so long and thick she decided to chop most of it off so it was easier to pull through the holes in the cap Angry

I was really pissed off but it did grow out quicker than I thought it would. Those bobs are lovely though and you can get to that length easily.

What did you ask for, out of interest?

chibi · 27/05/2015 22:07

I didn't ask - he came highly recommended as someone who could work out what suited you

HA HA HA HA

I am going to get the flicky bits cut to make it Bob-ish then grow it out

I am not going for a pixie, I am 40 and that is a look that is hard to pull off- too easy to look like good old sensible mum, no time to fuss with hair when you could be busy frumping around

OP posts:
Nishky · 27/05/2015 22:09

I have a pixie and don't look frumpy and I am 50. It's all in the styling.

chibi · 27/05/2015 22:12

I am sure your pixie is amazing.

Given the total disaster that is my head at present I am not inspired to try one Grin

Or maybe I will leave it as it is and become a rent-a-mug on Loose Women

My hair would fit well on a panel show

bblondemoment · 27/05/2015 22:17

Ahhhhhh, the Rachel, can't believe in the 90's I used to throw my hairdresser a £100 quid every few months for it to be coloured and cut like that , more money than sense pre children! X

AwayAndRunUpMaHumf · 27/05/2015 22:21

definitely chop off the ends and make it into a graduated bob, it'll look tons better.

DeidreChambersWhatACoincidence · 27/05/2015 22:21

It really doesn't look awful. But you are unhappy with it, it's not what you asked for...that's what matters.

I could make you feel a thousand % better and post a picture of what I ended up with last Sept. after taking a chance on a new hairdresser, except the picture makes me feel so angry. I really should have sought legal advice I think. I'm still growing it out. I hate what he did. He just hacked away until it was ruined.

It makes me wonder..lots of style advice is to have a good haircut. But actually finding a good hairdresser and trusting one again after a terrible experience is extremely hard.
