So

Got a face fulla fillers but I just need radical.
I'm saving for a facelift
And bought a dermastamp
And am now considering ingesting untested c60 to combat ageing, even joined a bit of a cranky forum (longecity)

Anybody else being quite obsessed and stepping beyond creams etc?

I'm 63 and now look old, because I'm 63.
I'd rather look old than put poisons in my body.
I eat organic food, drink water, no alcohol, avoid sugar, try to dress well, stand up straight and I'm 9st 7lb at 5ft 6.

I don't recognise who I see in the mirror, but I will not poison my body.

ihatethecold · 27/05/2015 06:39

raining
Maybe it's not make a difference because you've only thrown money at it in the past year?
Surely looking after your skin starts much, much sooner in life.

Floisme · 27/05/2015 07:37

ItsRaining I'm sure most women who work in the public eye have had some kind of procedures. I don't criticise them for that - they're trying to make a liviing the best way they can. But I feel angry that it seems to be the only way you can survive in that world. I'm glad I don't live that life and can say 'fuck that' without fear of losing my job.

noddyholder · 27/05/2015 07:42

A good diet and attitude makes you feel good. i find the less stress I have the better everything is. I love Vivienne floisme have met her and she glows!

Floisme · 27/05/2015 07:45

You've met her?? I am so Envy
I need details now!

noddyholder · 27/05/2015 07:52

At a party years ago I was waitress Grin dishing out the drinks

Floisme · 27/05/2015 07:57

I love her so - if I met her I would probably embarrass myself.

noddyholder · 27/05/2015 07:59

I do too

TheWindowDonkey · 27/05/2015 08:13

This is why I avoid magazines, any channel with adverts etc. all the media pressure and the trend for actresses to have work done to retain their youth astounds and dismays me, so many of them look different and its SO obvious they are faking it, so whats the point??
I'm 40 and I'm proud of every wrinkle and grey hair. i earned each and every one in a life lived and they are part of my story. I'll never dye my hair or have work done, I plan on being too busy still enjoying the ride to worry too much about how I look whilst doing it!

suzannecanthecan · 27/05/2015 08:27

Cate Blanchett, Naomi Watts and Mariella Frostrup with wrinkles and lines

Ah c'mon, they've all had some cosmetic work done, they've just kept it to a level where they have enough lines that they don't look obviously unnatural.

AbsoluteGonk · 27/05/2015 08:32

What have they had done? I'm mariella's age and don't have no. 11s - no Botox

AbsoluteGonk · 27/05/2015 08:40

Emma Thompson has vowed not to have plastic surgery, fillers or Botox

Kristin Scott Thomas - complete with no 11s

What makes all these women attractive is their engagement with life through their work, campaigns, passions - and their smiles complete with crows' feet and mouth lines.

suzannecanthecan · 27/05/2015 08:43

Smooth foreheads are a dead giveaway.
I'll eat my hat if they've had nothing done, Emma and Kirsten too.
Like I said the trick is to leave just enough lines.

We can't see the picture in the attic ?Wink

florascotia · 27/05/2015 08:44

Suzanne - sorry, have not looked at the site for some time but must reply to your point up thread about meaninglessness.

I did not intend to suggest that life was ultimately meaningless, because I don't feel that it is (though that meaning will seem different for different people and can of course at times include a sense of meaninglessness).

What I did want to say was that creating and living behind a 'beautiful' mask based on an artificial notion of eternal youth would be meaningless for me.

suzannecanthecan · 27/05/2015 08:44

(Bunch of irritating, up themselves 'luvvies' if you ask me)

suzannecanthecan · 27/05/2015 08:48

I know you didnt mean that Flora, but I did.
Life is ultimately meaningless, since it has no 'ultimate' meaning, ie only the meanings that we personally imbue it with

vestandknickers · 27/05/2015 09:27

Ageing is a good thing. Think of the alternative.
Your life's experiences show in your face. Your skin changes. So what?
You must have very little going on in your life to worry about a few lines on your face.

BualadhBos · 27/05/2015 09:37

While I agree that people can do whatever they like I think people who get all these things done are kidding themselves if they think they look young. They might not have wrinkles but put them beside a twenty year old and the difference will be obvious.

Was watching Kylie on TV last week and she can only move her mouth now which draws your focus so that she looks "all mouth"!

niminypiminy · 27/05/2015 09:39

I can't agree with you Suzanne, that life has no ultimate meaning. That's the way of despair and selfishness.

One of the fabulous things about Vivienne Westwood - who saw once in RL on The tube, in a wonderful outfit from her own collections complete with scary platform shoes and flaming red hair - is that she knows there's more to life than appearances. Fashion is just one of the arts - she's just as interested in visual art and literature.

florascotia · 27/05/2015 09:40

Suzanne - thanks for your reply. From the purely logical point of view, an interesting consequence follows it. If there are no 'ultimates' there can be no absolute 'beauty', either. So looking youthful is not intrinsically better than looking old. So, apart from personal preference, why should anyone bother?

As others have said, our lives are mirrored in our faces. Like them, I prefer to try to look good (if I can) but still be myself.

noddyholder · 27/05/2015 09:56

ALl of those have had work Its the way of keeping a freshish look without immobile that they have perfected. I think the having nothing going on in your life is a misconception and then some! Everyone I know who has had a bit of botox has plenty going on!

AbsoluteGonk · 27/05/2015 09:59

Naomi Watts would be an absolute idiot to have plastic surgery. She gave that interview to Town & Country magazine who styled and photo shopped her until she looked nothing like herself but eerily like Nicole Kidman

Your best bet with the whole ageing thing, is to remind yourself that it is a beautiful stage of life, and that if you try and force your face to look less lined, then you are going into a battle youll never win.

Ive had botox a couple of times, but i cant even be bothered anymore. Old people who spend all this money on the antiaging shit dont look young. They just look like theyve spent money on it. Embrace your middle years
