Unilateral decision... No space for consultation. Call me Dave...

And would like to see you both, Molly and BTM, but think I probably won't make it today. Another time.

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2015 12:46

Sad but you know where we are if your plans change. And anyone else!

herbaceous · 31/05/2015 12:59

Would love to, but in Sudbury, with aged P. He is a different man today - still forgetful, but one rent, and able to have a conversation. The wine really is disastrous. He has some every night, apparently, and it's becoming his only pleasure.

I've escaped briefly to soft play with DS. It comes to something when soft play is an 'escape'.

Blackduck · 31/05/2015 13:30

Is that Sudbury on Themas Herbs? Or sudbury Greenford?

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 15:11

ARRGGGHHHHH. My own father - who is NOT dementing AFAIK - has booked us - my sister, her kids, DP and me - into a B&B for the night before my mum's sodding 80th birthday sodding party. I DID NOT ASK HIM TO DO THIS. The B&B has really awful reviews. Apparently it's non-refundable. DP has sent him Firm Email asking him to cancel the card...I suppose we can just go elsewhere anyway. But am Angry. Possibly disproportionately so. I do not want to stay somewhere which is dirty and nasty.

CointreauVersial · 31/05/2015 15:30

Lordy, what a foul day. Although I'm cheered by reports that summer is on its way, and it will apparently be "scorchio" by the end of this week.

I have had a day of chores - a huge pile of mending/adjusting which has been glaring at me for weeks has been dealt with (nice for the sewing machine to get some exercise), the beds are changed, the hole in DD2's school shoes has been glued closed, and some more eBay stuff has been listed. Dull but satisfying.

Sounds like it has been a tough one, Herbs... Sad

cremolafoam · 31/05/2015 16:02

Oh herbs, nightmare. I remember my gm was like this with the drink, which was really interfering with her meds. I had the temerity to bring it up one day and she turned on me -like a nasty screaming unrecognisable banshee. It was SO HARD to understand at the time. It was only at the very end of her life that she forgave me ( forgot about it) some years later. Tread carefully.

Lalsy you talk a great deal of sense re 16 yr old employment.

CV I doubt that forecast includes us. It is howling here, then bright sunshine, then howling. I am running inside and outside alternately trying to Do Stuff. Dh is clearing out dds room in anticipation of her return. It has of late , become dis dumping ground for his Important Shit.

MI I am speechless re your Dad. wTAF?Shock

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2015 16:50

Oh Herbs, glad it was a bit better for at least part of the day today.
My DM was complaining about one of her carers (who only goes for an hour once a week) but I had already had a call from the agency about how agitated she was when the carer was there. So difficult to know what is going on.

Oh dear MI. He may not have dementia, but he is aging and I guess in his mind he was trying to get organised... Very annoying for you. I think you and all your family will just have to get very blunt and assertive with him. It's not easy.

Had a lovely walk and catch up with Molly despite the grey skies. And I now have 2 lovely books to readSmile

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 17:00

I am cross and sluggish. It is a LONG time since I got any proper exercise - I do think my knee is almost back up to it now though. And am sick of providing meals, and thinking of NonBoring Food. DP says "put on potatoes to bake" - I don't want baked potatoes which may be linked to the fish fingers and oven chips/potato waffles the Inferiorettes and I had for lunch, of course Smile.

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2015 17:06

Ooh, I could just fancy a baked spud. We are having stirfry in another uninspired meal choice!

QueenQueenie · 31/05/2015 17:13

Roast chicken for dinner here. Yum. And dh is making it - even better....

Who else is completely fed up of exam season? Bloody hell it's dragging on here. Ds2 has 10 (ten, X) papers next week... and ds1 hasn't even started yet - but seems to have been mooning around at home in his trackies for EVER. Am sick of making cups of tea and making sympathetic noises.

How's it going in the other crepey exam households?

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 31/05/2015 17:44

We had duck with apples, roast potatoes, peas and an onion sauce. And cake for pudding. I am tired of cooking too.

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 17:51

DD1 is running a cold and wants tomato soup. Easy. And cheese on toast, my favourite foodstuff.

lalsy · 31/05/2015 17:54

Sweet junk food and cheerful noises here too QQ. ds has been on study leave for weeks, it all blends into one. He has been cheerful and done some sport, so I have nothing to complain about, but it is boooring being cheerful and calm.

hattymattie · 31/05/2015 18:19

Wow QQ - that's a lot of papers - very good luck to your DS next week.

DD1 has finished her exams but many friends are still going (medics don't finish until 10th June and have apparently 10 papers compared to law's paltry 4.)

Here in France it is mothers day and has been horrible weather all day. I went to the gym this morning and DH was hoping to do a BBQ but it was rained off so we had to cook it in the oven instead. DD2 has not been overly helpful and says she has to study her French - as it's not until 19th June so she could have at least set the table.

I watched Pitch Perfect this afternoon - thoroughly enjoyable - I do wish I could sing. I'm so envious of those of you in choirs.

Hello to the newbies and hello CremSmile

Rosebag · 31/05/2015 18:35

QQ I hear ya sister. Exam season is utter, utter shite. DS has only one AS left, on Tuesday...the music paper. He's flat out...I.am earwigging on a ( two hours and counting) face time revision session he's doing with a classmate on Beethovens Fifth .....I can't believe how impressive they sound...descending sequences, ascending sequences, cadence, recapitulation, blimey. Shock

Then we start with DD...sheesh.

Sorry re DDads herbs and MI. How stressful. My DDad likes his prosecco to be sure. I think he's better with it tbh. MI your DDad thought he was being helpful...maybe if you explained the situation to the guest house? I'm with you on not staying in grotty places though. Even Premier Inn is better than that! Flowers both.

Also [tilly] about your DM...there is this Dementia Friend programme I've been hearing about...I will do some research...maybe someone nearby can help and stay in touch with you.

CV what a productive day...

dD and I had lunch on the road at Chessington Garden Centre...a very boring jacket potato for me and a panini for DD. I could murder some of your Crepey roasts. Yum.
Now I've just got the Sunday evening feeling...funny how one doesn't grow out of it even though school is a distant memory...

Stropperella · 31/05/2015 18:36

Exams dragging on here as well. As previously mentioned, I am not party to any knowledge of when any exams are happening, but I do know that dd is about half-way through. She is doing 5 subjects and even weedy Critical Thinking AS has 3 papers. Which seems excessive. French is all finished, but she still has her statistics paper for maths and the rest of chem and biol, with exams tomorrow and Tuesday for sure (and then I don't know about the rest of the week). She has, however, spent most of today weeping and wailing about a social crisis of her own making and I eventually suggested she go and buy flowers and chocs and make a public apology to the person she has pissed off and this may go some way to smoothing things over. Or it may not. But at least she has then properly said sorry and eaten some humble pie. She calmed down after I made that suggestion and agreed it would be the best move, so we then had to rush out to purchase said flowers and chocs. There has been a lot of ostentatious rustling of paper this afternoon, but I don't know that she has done much work.

I have pins and needles in my feet and have had on and off all week. I sometimes also think my feet are numb. I fear this is not a good sign as far as my back is concerned. Bum.

Rosebag · 31/05/2015 18:46

Cross post hatty I love coaching people who want to sing but think they can't. People who really can't are in an infinitesimal minority. Choirs aren't the only way to sing either...I'm not particularly good choral singer...I like solo and duets. Oh and btw, DS2 had a really nice message from your DDs friend doing MFL today. His original message went into an obscure folder and she was so sweet and apologetic about the delay. Thank so much for the contact Thanks

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 18:47

Rose, the guest house will not give a refund. Full stop. I rang, I pulled out all the stops, I cried and said he was in his 80s and totally confused, and tr bloke just said he'd made it clear to my dad it was nonrefundable. DP has emailed my father telling him to cancel the credit card payment and pointing out just how terrible the reviews are and that the bedrooms are a key code and he's not happy for the kids to stay somewhere like that.

I don't care if he thought he was being helpful. He was being officious and interfering the way he always has been. Neither my sister nor I want to go to this sodding party - to make matters worse a man I've disliked intensely since we were kids may well be there - and at least we thought we'd stay somewhere nice the previous night. We will do anyway - we were going to pay for ourselves in any case.

Rosebag · 31/05/2015 18:51

Name and shame on trip adviser MI What a pig. The B&B owner, I meant.

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 18:51

This really is one of those situations where if there was a backlog off affection I would feel differently, isn't it. Also I am nearly 52 and quite capable of booking my own B&B. Just because my mum has never booked anywhere in her life...AngryAngry

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 18:51

Ooh good idea!

motherinferior · 31/05/2015 18:57

I do also realise I am fixating on a minor issue. Probably as displacement. Apologies.

MollyAir · 31/05/2015 19:11

I thoroughly enjoyed our walk, BTM, and I feel a lot healthier for it. Smile

Exams are ongoing here. Not much for me to do though, except keep the peace and the fridge full. Ds only has one uni exam left, then is home. Strangely, I have mixed feelings about that - I suppose, like you, Crem, I've become accustomed to having more space in the house to dump things in; where's all the crap going to go now?

Rosebag · 31/05/2015 19:15

Listen, I'm 54 and DM still phones me to make sure I've sent a thank you note if someone she knows has give us a gift. She also tells me to be careful crossing the road. One day at a MU I'll tell you the story of when DParents decided to take us all away for their 50th anniversary. I nearly had a breakdown over the controlling behaviour I had to endure...Grin Never EVER again!
