Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

TheVery I know what you mean - I sat taking notes on the thread on Sunday! And it's now proving such a nice distraction while I wait for DS to come out of surgery. Just a very minor op but so horrible! Minutes are dragging.

Anyway sorry to veer off topic. I'm enjoying my new project and plan to make some facial oils soon from the EDS site Kundry linked to. Any ideas for where to get ingredients for DIY skincare that are cheap and legit?

Also looking forward to moving on to 0.05 skinceutucals (so think this is like 0.125% equivalent of Retin-a but I'm a wuss!), my FAB pads and hylamide arriving tomorrow and some Vichy aqualia.

Autocorrect just made my aqualia cream 'Squalid' which has taken the gloss off, somewhat Confused

TheVeryThing · 28/04/2015 15:25

Untamed I really hope your ds is ok, I need to start taking notes too I think.

kewtogin, delighted you're seeing an improvement, would you mind telling me the name of that serum, please? Apologies if you've mentioned it earlier in the thread.

kewtogetin · 28/04/2015 15:31

Very, yes it's by skinician, it's the calming serum. £35 but I happened upon a bottle at tkmaxx for £10. I think you may be able to order it from their website?

TheVeryThing · 28/04/2015 16:03

Brilliant, thanks. I'll have a look at TKMaxx, no way I can afford £35.

kewtogetin · 28/04/2015 16:40

I've checked very, you can order it on the site and have it delivered to home or to a store if you're in the Birmingham region.

Sallystyle · 28/04/2015 17:27

Does anyone know if the Christian Breton range they have in TKMaxx is any good?

Truckingalong · 28/04/2015 18:12

I'm perimenopausal and my skin is very hormonal. I've had cystic spots for years but have been off the antibiotics for about 3 years now. Ordinarily, before I come on, I get a couple of humungous spots but this time.......nothing. Not a single spot. This is an absolute first. Remarkable. I've been following a regime for about 2 - 3 weeks now and my skin defo looks better. Am delighted! Am considering lasers next for the veins around my nose but I've tried lasers before and couldn't tolerate the pain.

TheVeryThing · 28/04/2015 18:44

Thanks so much Kew, I'm in Ireland and they don't deliver here but might be worth using parcel motel and having it sent to NI.

kewtogetin · 28/04/2015 19:35

If I happen upon another bottle very ill let you know, happy to post it over to you.

ilovetosleep · 28/04/2015 19:44

I used my Redermic retinol serum last night and my face feels fine but I don't look ten years younger ;) I'm beginning to think I want the amazing results everyone is talking about with Retin-A, despite having said I don't want to buy prescription cream on ebay! Does anyone have any wonder stories to tell about any of the readily available retinoid creams such as my LRP one? Am also interested in the anti aging cream on the active formulas site linked earlier. Has anyone tried that?

VirginiaTonic · 28/04/2015 20:04

Curiosity got the better of me and looked up Caroline Hirons. Her advice sounds a bit all over the place to me, but never mind that, look at her skin- it looks terrible! Its all shiny and peeled looking but still saggy! I imagine she would look ancient for someone their 40s as well if she lost weight.

FrugalFashionista · 28/04/2015 20:09

Very my skin looks like pic 1 in rosacea type 1 when I have a flareup (my family members have the more advanced forms of this same subtype, permanently red cheeks and nose with lots of thread veins, charming). I've been symptom-free for years except for a recent bout of perioral. Dry frozen winter air and sudden temperature changes triggers my symptoms. I've not used Avene except for their thermal water spray, but LRP products are very good on my skin.

Kew that serum sounds nice! I am testing two new products, Cerave PM feels fab on my skin and after reading some dermatology pages it sounds just what I need ('strengthening the skin barrier function'). I've also tried a firming sleeping mask from Dr Jart and it feels fantastic, cooling and soothing (glycolic makes my skin tingle and burn) and makes my skin look really nice in the morning.

What are some of the mildest acid toners out there? I think the Nip + Fab pads feel far too strong for daily use, is there anything milder out there?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 28/04/2015 20:36

Hope all is well with ds untamed!

UntamedShrew · 28/04/2015 20:46

Thanks Drank! He is fine, all sorted and home and he couldn't believe he got to eat THREE chocolate biscuits afterwards :) So brave, I'm super proud of him.

Meanwhile I'm shocked anyone thinks CH's skin looks anything other than fabulous! I think she looks great, she's got about ten years on me but I look older than her I think. Plus she's funny without being, you know, mean about people. Just sayin' Wink

Itsalldramarama · 28/04/2015 20:56

Just managed to finally get to boots ! Cetaphil all gone ! Flying off the shelves I was told ! Got some botanics cleanser and nip and fab pads . Then to b &I'm for some more regenerist 10 serum and youth code moisturiser

Itsalldramarama · 28/04/2015 20:59

De-lurking here! Boots has 25% off selected Cetaphil products, also M&S has 20% off beauty online until 8am tomorrow.

AttitudeOfGratitude · 28/04/2015 21:08

Sorry, up to 20% - hopefully still some bargains to be had.

kewtogetin · 28/04/2015 21:08

Ah, here we are being all Carey and sharey, helping each other out with advice and experience then along comes Virginia with her poisoned keyboard blowing a hole in the sisterhood.
May your pores always be large and your forehead oily.....
I have a lesbionic crush on madam hirons....

bigbuttons · 28/04/2015 21:51

Stock flying off the shelves. Soon they'll be a world wide shortage of retin! Makes me wonder how many lurkers there are. It's bloody brilliant for me on a purely personal and selfish level that my op has helped others feel good. To be honest I didn't expect more than about 5 replies!

OP posts:
MrsGuyGarvey · 28/04/2015 22:04

20% off beauty at M&S, lots of high end beauty brands in there.

Itsalldramarama · 28/04/2015 22:16

Kudos to big buttons :) love a new project! Or obsession ;) x

VirginiaTonic · 28/04/2015 22:32

I would suggest Beautypedia for much more scientific and trusted dependable advice and recommendations.

CiderwithBuda · 28/04/2015 22:36

LOL at five replies! This thread is taking forever to load on my iPad!

I think this thread goes to show how w bloody confused a lot of us are about skincare. Every magazine you read has articles recommending something. And ads showing something else. It's a nightmare to figure out what to use.

So this thread is great both from the point of view of linking to some great blogs but also honest trial and error results.

VeryStressedMum · 28/04/2015 22:43

Bigbuttons all I think about is my face I blame you Grin
Tonight I'm putting on my 0.025 retin a for the first time. I cleansed half hour ago so I'm going to wait a bit longer then....what?? What am I supposed to be doing? Shall I just put on a small pea sized amount over whole face and nothing else on top and hope I don't wake up tomorrow to find my face peeled off Grin
