Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

This sounds like wonderous Magic! I am book marking until I have found phone charger. I've never heard of this before and need read whole thread!

My skin wasn't horrendous but I did have spots, and it didn't look great. I can post what I use if it helps anyone (I'm on a budget!)

goodasitgets that looks wonderful, well done!

I do find that the tretinoin and the acid peels really help clear the skin and reduce wrinkles.
The comment made to me was after a 2 weeks school break, so it only took 2 weeks to make that much of a difference!

Goodasitgets would love a list of what you use please, skin looks great.

zippyswife · 15/04/2015 07:17

goodasitgets your skin is fab. I'd love a list of the products. How long did it take to notice a change.

I have very fair sensitive rosacea prone skin- can I still do all these things? I tried the hot cloth cleansing and it caused my skin to flare up.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/04/2015 07:23

The peels - do they work quickly or do you have peeling skin for a few days?

ihatethecold · 15/04/2015 07:24

You have to remember that we all have different skin and what goodasitgets uses may not be suitable for you.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/04/2015 07:42

Zippy-I would steer clear and just try 'hot' cloth cleansing but with a very gentle balm and a cool soft flannel.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 15/04/2015 07:58

Isn't trenitoin only available on prescription in the UK? I would be wary about messing around with Px strength meds bought off the 'net without guidance from a dermatologist/Dr.

I like Caroline Hirons but like most things, you have to exercise a bit of common sense. Not everything she uses will suit your skin type and yes, some of what she is doing may well have a marketing element to it, though I think she is one of the more neutral beauty bloggers in the field, mainly because it is a sideline for her, she has an actual career in the industry too bu obv that may well (consciously or subconsciously) affect her recommendations.

I think she's early 40's too, not over 50 Wink

namechange2015 · 15/04/2015 08:00

*I don't think it's that complicated.

Cleanse (twice if wearing makeup or SPF)
Acid Tone
Serum/Oil
Moisturiser/SPF*
where does the tretinoin & acid peels come into this? Is this the alpha liquid gold?

Nabootique · 15/04/2015 08:47

I'm pretty sure she's about 47. Liquid gold is a treatment that goes on after cleansing and you miss out all the other steps. You use it every couple of days.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 15/04/2015 09:11

I stand corrected. Whatever her age, her skin looks good to me. Of course, there's no way of telling how much of that is down to what she puts on her face though and whether what works for her will work similarly well for you but if her skin is a billboard for her advice, I think it is a pretty good one.

HenriettaBarnet · 15/04/2015 09:28

I am very tempted to try this - my skin looks dreadful atm (I'm 44). Is there a link to any products she recommends for each stage?

Also, is oil compulsory? I've tried it before and its done nothing for my skin. I'm happy with serum though.

I suspect (I've had a look at her site this morning) sugar is playing a big part in my bad skin - I'm still working my way through the easter eggs!

Nabootique · 15/04/2015 10:00

Yeah, she does have a good diet snd drinks loads of water as well. It all helps. Oil isn't essential (pardon the pun!). If you're viewing the full site you can click the tags at the side for cleanser, serum, etc. for reviews. Also check out her Youtube channel.

Clarabumps · 15/04/2015 10:00

big buttons can you link geoffs pharmacy please as i'm having trouble finding it. I love CH, she has totally changed my skin. I'm still having hormonal breakouts but the rest of my skin looks amazing. I've not missed my am/pm routine since September and my skin looks much better for it. I think I'll give the elbow thing a go as my elbows are looking like a dried out prune. Yuck.

Jaded2004 · 15/04/2015 12:36

I had a good look last night. I have cleansers and toners from Lancôme left over from my 'I can afford things like that days' but I've looked for serums and oils and they are all quite exspensive and there are so many to choose from... Any recommendations are great fully received. I have combination skin and I'm sort of olive skinned I think?? I did my first cleanse and massage last night and this morning and have to say I feel better for knowing my skin is clean. I really fell into just washing face when in the shower.

EssexMummy123 · 15/04/2015 13:12

Agree that it's a bit easy to get overwhelmed on Caroline Hiron's site.

Off to buy that superdrug cleanser.

I have some Bravura Detoxifying Eucalyptus Astringent Toner 15% AHA/BHA

Any serum suggestions please, i've been debating the Boots protect / perfect or Soap and Glory. (late 30's sensitive skin - lines appearing round eyes)

I stick with my 25p aspirin facemasks, add a few drops of water to 4 dispersible aspirin tablets and put on your damp cleansed skin. Relax for approx ten minutes, i do it while i'm having a bath and then rinse off. I've been doing this weekly for the last few years and haven't had a blemish/spot since. Its my most cost effective beauty treatment.

I started using some of the CH recommendations too and found it really helped. I'm 50 but have always had reasonable skin - I blame my mum for my product addiction!

I startd double cleansing - I use chamomile cleansing oil from the body shop. Then a normal cleanser. For cloths I use some I bought in John Lewis - I think the brand was something like Marumeka - seven in a pack and thy are rougher than normal face cloths so exfoliate well. I use one for the oil and another for the cleanser.

I have the Liquid Gold but didn't realise you don't use anything after so will see how that goes.

I use a Philosophy serum - Time in a Bottle - it's £55 in John Lewis. At night I use Kiehls Midnight .recovery oil and their eye cream.

I also stopped using anything that foams. So I use a cream cleanser in the morning too and just wash that off in the shower.

I have a Clarisonic but don't use it much.

cathyandclaire · 15/04/2015 15:14

I just managed to reign myself in before I spent £120 on Look Fantastic! That blog is dangerous for a sheep like me

I have a history of buying stuff and using it half heartedly. I found dusty pots of Cleanse and Polish, roseship oil, REN Glycolactic, Take the Day off AND Hydraluron Blush Blush so have bought an acid toner ( First Aid pad ones) and some flannels and if i stick religiously to the process I will treat myself to the Liquid Gold.

I'm doing before and after photos and everything, won't share though as a baggy, blotchy puffy eyed pensioner appears to have photobombed my first pic :(

Jaded2004 · 15/04/2015 16:10

Googled liquid gold. It's saying its a resurface thingy??? Is that right? I'm getting so confused. I think I'll stick to double cleansing, massage, tone, moisturiser as cannot seem to get my head around the serums and oils bit. I get confused easily Smile

bigbuttons · 15/04/2015 16:11

Body shop do some good stuff. I am using the oil you leave on overnight, it's supposed to be a serum, it's really light and lovely. Also a vit c serum which is gorgeous.
I also have serums from Novopeel on eBay.
I make my own vit b3 serum.
One of my cleansers is the merumaya balm . I do oil cleansing and have also made my own version of lush's ultrabland.

Liquid gold is a resurfacing thing. You put it on 3 times a week- ish after toning. Then don't use anything else with it.
