Had my first " your skin looks amazing" comment-- THANK YOU Caroline Hirons!

A colleague said this at work today, I was so chuffed.
I'm 47 and was looking not so good. This last month I have invested in serums, acids and what not have gone back to Caroline Hirons properly this time. I have been religiously cleaning and tending to my face AM and PM. I use a 30% glycol peel every couple of weeks and use tretinoin every 3 days.
I must say even I have noticed a difference, it has knocked years off me.
All blemishes gone, skin is ultra smooth, wrinkles reduced.
There is hope for us more (ahem) mature ladies!

My parcel from sr skincare has arrived, just done a patch test before I get to work getting rid of the horrid spots on the tops of my arms. Started using my skinician calming serum too, it's toned down the redness on my face already and I've had no irritation or reaction to it. So far so good!

BettyBitesBums · 27/04/2015 13:09

The skin around my eyes is sore and putting any creams, serums etc is stinging like crazy all over my face but doesn't look at all red or inflamed, in fact it looks good! I think it's from the acid toning (I'm using clearasil pads in the evening only). I think I need to switch to something slightly gentler as I don't want to stop acid altogether, any tips on which is gentler and not too pricey?

JoolsSchmools · 27/04/2015 13:12

Another lurker delurking here! Been following thread and spent a fortune.

Also I don't know if any of you use LRP serozinc toner (another of Queen Hirons loves) but they have two bottles for £10 on Escentuals at the minute..... Grin

mowglik · 27/04/2015 13:36

Good for you bigbuttons its fab when you get a result like that! I've started using acid toners so let's see if my single annoying nl fold looks better.

I remember considering dermarolling for that area as it plumps skin out but got too scared when I saw the actual contraptions Confused

DrankSangriaInThePark · 27/04/2015 14:10

germgirl- one thing I use for 'that' kind of line (the kind that is, at least on me, quite deep) is the roc rollerball thing from the Complete Lift, it massages your face and tones it somehow. The cream is long gone, and I'm not convinced was v effective, but I use it now with my serum.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 27/04/2015 14:14

Mowglik- the ForeverYoung ebay seller is where I got my hyaluronic acid serum from.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 27/04/2015 14:17

Untamedshrew, maybe the Vichy Aqualia serum? I haven't tried it, but am going to, and my skin sounds like yours.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 27/04/2015 14:19

bigbuttons- the hyaluronic serum from ebay that I keep mentioning had the matrixyl and argywotsit in it.

Germgirl · 27/04/2015 14:20

Thank you Drank. I will have a look for a rollerball massager thing.
I'm hopefully going to lose a fair bit of weight soon & if I do I know my lines will get worse, I want to treat them before they do.
The mouth lines are my only real problem at the moment but that will change.

Germgirl · 27/04/2015 14:46

That brings me onto a further question actually. I've bought a load of potions & creams & I'm happily slapping them all on, but is there any particular technique I should use? For creams / serums at least?
I use a hot cloth cleaner & do the old 'wring out the flannel in hot water, drape it over the face & breathe deeply' thing that I used to do years ago when using Eve Lom balm.
I then just rub the cream off with a flannel & splash my face with warm water.
I use FAB pads, just wiping them all over my face, same with other toners/micellar water on cotton pads.
Then I use serum and/or cream. Should I be massaging it in in a certain way? I must admit I tend to just dot it on & rub it in.
Would my marionette lines benefit from a particular massage technique?
Do I take all products onto my neck & chest too?

mowglik · 27/04/2015 15:28

germgirl look into facial exercises for marionette lines. Also, I use all my face products inc acid toner, serum and cream right down to bra level and sometimes even inside bra.. Seen too many youngish faces with crepey neck chest and hands so hoping to avoid that by using the same products in those places

I loved a vitamin c serum I got from that forever young seller it had all sorts of extra actives in it like matrixyl etc, once current serum runs out I may have a look again

Germgirl · 27/04/2015 15:33

Thank you mowglik I have been taking everything down onto my chest, I shall continue.

bigbuttons · 27/04/2015 16:10

I wonder If I can add matrixyl to my next batch of c serum. It all depends on the ph, whether it will alter it.

I used to buy my peels from forever young. If you google Dr skincare forever young comes up in the search too, so perhaps they are the same company?

bigbuttons · 27/04/2015 16:11

I mean sr skincare.

kewtogetin · 27/04/2015 16:21

Sr skincare did used to go by the name forever Young buttons.

m0gz · 27/04/2015 19:12

I'm continuing my cheap budget approach to this and have ordered a serum, glycolic peel and SPF 50 from superdrug for less than £8. They also have cosmetics on 3 for 2 so I had a splurge and have three new lipsticks coming - makeup revolution, £1 each and 3 for 2 so it would be wrong not to Grin

FrownsAndDimples · 27/04/2015 21:05

Just caught up. So pleased that some of you are loving the overhaul of skincare that this thread instigated. Well done buttons.

I am looking at making a kojic acid serum of some sort. I need help from the resident chemist please!

MrsGuyGarvey · 27/04/2015 21:12

JoolesSchmools - than you for deluking, I've just bought some Serozinc.

I am now mostly free of peeling skin, last night after putting on serum and night cream my face still felt dry so before I went to bed I slapped on some Aquaphor which did the trick. It's too greasy for every day but if you get yourselves in a peeling mess it worked well.

MerryKat · 27/04/2015 21:37

I have applied pea sized retin a to my face tonight. ive stopped my antibiotics for my hormonal acne and am focusing on skincare and diet!
I do have one spot coming up on my chin but it's early days.
My kundrification is beginning!

TRexingInAsda · 27/04/2015 21:56

I have applied my tamanu oil tonight - now I stink like a nut factory. If you have a nut allergy, please do not come within 3 miles of me - you shouldn't even be reading this post! Based on this, my purchase of Emu oil was a big mistake!

I have done double cleanse (as using SPF and makeup) with cetaphil bar and a clinique cleanser with a hot cloth, then clearasil pads, then vit c serum, tamanu oil, then cheap moisturiser - Oilatum junior (thanks kids)!

I feel a bit greasy, but my skin looks nice. Kundification under way! Thanks so much for all your amazing advice Kundy and all the other knowledgeable peeps on this thread. I will be good at skincare one day!

Sallystyle · 27/04/2015 22:02

Merry we are in the exact same boat.

Stopped my antibiotics a couple of days ago.

I have used the retina A three times now. I used it twice in a row and had no dryness or anything but missed yesterday just in case. Just applied it for the third time. I hope that the no irritation lasts.

I am due on in four days and by now I have at least two cystic spots and a few others with heads and a lot of small ones. I now have two tiny spots only Grin I know this is not from the retin, this is either plain luck or the double cleansing and serums I've been using has really helped alone.

My skin has never looked better at this time of the month, I have not had one month where I have not got cystic spots at this time of month for YEARS!

I wonder if mine really was simply down to not washing my face properly? or maybe my skin has gone into shock and given me a month off.

Either way, I am enjoying a month off the painful ugly cystic spots. So at least this month I have avoided more new scars.

CiderwithBuda · 27/04/2015 22:19

Can I ask a question about the liquid gold please? Why is using it alone an not putting anything on afterwards better? On the bottle it says you can use your normal skincare afterwards but for a more intensive treatment to use alone. Just wondering why that is! I've used it alone a couple of times and have tonight but it leaves my skin feeling really dry and tight. Wondering about putting my Kiehls midnight recovery concentrate on.

On another note - I went to Boots and bought both of the Hylamide serums - face and eyes. And picked up a sample of th Vichy lift active.

I'm happy to hear it U2! I still think I might get spotty while my face gets used to what I'm doing but we shall see. I'm much gentler washing my face now! I used to scour it like a pan so no wonder it reacted. I do have fish oils but haven't taken them yet. CH recommends them for us cystic acne sufferers. Woke up this morning with a normal looking face (instead of the horror show I expected!!) so feeling positive!

DrankSangriaInThePark · 28/04/2015 06:33

I think the Liquid Gold on its own is supposed to be more effective. Buda, not sure why though, I didn't get on with it. (hello, btw, I was Bucharest a million years ago and people used to get us confused in an Eastern European kind of way!)
