What is the perceived view on maxi dresses this summer?

They are still everywhere, but wondering if they are now a bit 'done'? Will you be wearing one this year either at home or away?

No, they're done, I've binned all mine
I have a couple of maxi skirts though which I love and are still very 'in'

MrsNuckyThompson · 09/04/2015 11:12

Any recommendations for a nice maxi skirt?

I'm just not into them. I've seen some on British tourists around here, but I much prefer bare legs.

Discounted · 09/04/2015 11:14

I think it depends. Floaty, strapless printed ones with that horrible smocking squashing any shape out of your boobs probably not (but I never liked them). I think there's still a place for a long, plain or striped t-shirt type dress worn with a belt though.

BlueBananas · 09/04/2015 11:15

My favourite maxi skirt is from h&m, not too long and it's nice and light and cool without being see through

HoggleHoggle · 09/04/2015 11:19

I agree with discounted, I think simple t shirt maxi dresses are still a good basic for summer. Well, I'll be in mine anyway!

FreeButtonBee · 09/04/2015 11:20

I will be wearing but only because I will be enormously pregnant (due in August). Otherwise, I'm a bit off them except for beach days.

FreeButtonBee · 09/04/2015 11:21

Topshop is good for plain jersey maxi skirts. I do like them still, partic with a white cotton cami and a denim jacket.

Twinklestein · 09/04/2015 11:23

Maxi dresses are so not done: Netaporter

They have just shifted. They were cutting edge and now they're more classic. There's a strong 70s vibe this season, which was obviously big on maxis, that's the style to go for.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/04/2015 11:24

I find skirts much easier to wear than dresses.

I've got one like this which is nice with a cami and either sandals or Converse. Mine is just jersey, so can be casual or dressed up a bit with heels for a night in the pub.

I find dresses tend to not have enough fabric on top - with a skirt, you can choose something more flattering to wear on top half.

mrsdavidbowie · 09/04/2015 11:27

I've just bought one..its very column shaped and slim, and I look hot Wink
Need it taking up though and I'm six feet....

OnlyLovers · 09/04/2015 11:28

I think they're still 'in', although I also hate those ones with smocking, and I don't like the boho/70s look much.

Slight tangent, but I am perennially looking for a maxi dress with either T-shirt or longer sleeves, in crisp cotton – not jersey, or cotton-mix, just that nice cool summery cotton. They are amazingly hard to find. Can anyone recommend any?

dexter73 · 09/04/2015 11:38

I'll still be wearing maxi skirts or dresses this summer.

Heels99 · 09/04/2015 11:42

Binned them but if I was tall and slim I would still be earring them

diggerdigsdogs · 09/04/2015 12:02

So many stunning ones on netaporter.

onlylovers I'd love something like that.

OnlyLovers · 09/04/2015 12:10

digger, I might have a look online I should be working. I'll report back if I find anything cool and cottony!

GoooRooo · 09/04/2015 12:11

I will be wearing them becuase I'm pregnant. I never wore them before because they made me look pregnant. At the moment, I'm quite happy to look up the duff Grin

nikki1978 · 09/04/2015 12:25

I will still be wearing the simple jersey ones like this as they are flattering and light/comfy for the warmer weather. Plus I don't give a crap what is in fashion Grin

Apatite1 · 09/04/2015 12:25

I'll be wearing them too as I'm pregnant and not afraid to look it!

Luciferbox · 09/04/2015 12:35

Another pregnant lady here who will bs sporting one. Because I'm huge and its warm.

ZaraW · 09/04/2015 18:55

I got really lovely Tory Burch maxi dress a coupe of years ago from The Outnet for a bargain price.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 09/04/2015 18:58

Don't wear maxi dresses because they don't fit my shape but I've ben wearing maxi skirts for years and am going to carry on wearing them.

I lie actually. Being tall I have a couple of shirred top dresses for short people that I wear as skirts.

SpecificOcean · 09/04/2015 19:33

I will still wear my 2 plain ones, not a fan of the big flowery kind though.
And I've just bought this maxi skirt a bit like Remus's link

When you see the guests on The Jeremy Kyle show wearing them, it's time to move on
