Excessive body hair is making me miserable

Please don't tell me I shouldn't be ashamed; I'm not ashamed but I'm fed up.

My legs are like desperate dans. I shaved them yesterday and already they are stubbly. They look like most women's do after a WEEK. Even my legs and toes are hairy Hmm

My eyebrows are okay and can be waxed / threaded but I'm noting an increasing amount on my face including long wiry ones growing from my neck and chin. I pluck three when I see them.

My pubic area is ridiculous. I have pubic hair growing halfway down my thighs and hair removal cream burns me and more pertinently doesn't work. I am utterly fed up.

I don't have pcos or similar. I come from a hairy family. On the plus side I do have beautifully thick swishy head-hair and so do my children. Unfortunately when born they look like baby monkeys. My nearly-1 year old already has a mono brow Hmm

HELP!

First treatment done! Was ok really . Took longer marking out grid lines then actually doing the treatment . They recommend you use white eyeliner to draw out grid on your legs so you don't go Over the same area twice. Took about 15 minutes for both legs , two for bikini line and two for armpits .

Had a problem with toes though! Only my big toe is big enough to flash on! As all the guard bits need to be pressed down before the unit will flash I couldn't seem to achieve this very well on my toes! Am going to have to work on it.

Overall not painful just slightly warm- now just to see if it works!

woodhill · 11/04/2015 18:35

I'm tempted, dark hairs. and pale skin. and facial hair increasing it seems. do you have to be careful in tge sun afterwards?

has anyone tried the No No?

Shitmyhairdressersays · 11/04/2015 20:00

Hmm I read a really long thread years back on another forum praising the Boots IPL machine with loads of posters at the time raving about it....turns out they were largely all people working for some agency paid by Boots to rave about it..Sad so it makes me wary.
I am NOT accusing anyone of being a plant btw I'm just saying what happened.
I REALLY want home IPL to work as I suffer with this affliction too.
Can I ask those having laser, if it has worked for you, which laser do you have?

woodhill · 11/04/2015 21:32

shame mumsnet can't do a tester trial for it

VillaVillekulla · 11/04/2015 22:52

I'm Shock and Angry that the people raving about the Boots ipl were working for Boots. I was one of the suckers who bought the kit partly on the basis of the MN rave reviews and I've been underwhelmed by results.

springlamb · 11/04/2015 23:00

I too have the hormonal facial hair. Runs in the family, soon as the women in my family hit 40 we start taking on likeness to a Labradoodle.
I especially had 3 very dark hairs very close together centrally on my chin. They were those buggers that are not there one second, then half an inch long the next.
Bought a facial Epilator on Amazon about 3 weeks ago (£14.95) and did my jawline, there's still no sign of them growing back, I can't even feel them under my skin. I still check every day, a hard habit to break, but gosh the difference in confidence with those lighters gone!

Shitmyhairdressersays · 11/04/2015 23:16

It was on a different forum Villa but it was about 30 pages long and I read all of the pages (took me some days!) and I was full of hope until it got to the last few pages when one of the posters slipped up and enthusiastically suggested everyone get over to Facebook and 'like' the page of the Boots one to win a unit and then people sussed. The forum was one of those where you could see how many posts people had made and there were an awful lot of new posters raving about how good it was. Turns out they were all plants Angry
I think it's a common practice in marketing but it obviously works because I was all set to buy one as I trusted the posters and followed their 'results'.
The sad thing is everyone having good results might be telling the truth. Sad
Just to reiterate I'm not accusing anyone of not telling the truth, I badly want the home IPL kits to work. Blimey, don't we all!

woodhill · 12/04/2015 14:04

I think I may try it at the salon first to see if I fit the criteria

TwoLittleTerrors · 12/04/2015 14:22

I definitely don't work for Philips! You can google my current username. And my previous was Onelittletoddlingterror. I post things here on MN other than plugging the lumea.

babyiwantabump · 12/04/2015 14:47

Ooh I don't work for Philips either!

Well today I have some random itchy patches - not sure if it's just cause it's been warm but I think it might be where I've overlapped areas on my legs? Bit worried I've done some damage!

In the manual it does say you have to be careful with sun exposure afterwards

poppym12 · 12/04/2015 17:13

I've bought the lumea compact today to give it a go. I'm a few weeks post wax so I've rubbed a lady shave over my legs and done a few zaps. How will I even know if I've done it properly or if it's working? And it says it can take up to 2 weeks for the hair you've zapped to drop out so does this mean 2 hairy weeks waiting for the fallout or for the time before I can shave again to re zap?

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 12/04/2015 17:25

I use an epilator on my legs as I can't afford other ongoing treatments. I also pluck my armpits (and toes) with tweezers. Time consuming but addictive and therapeutic.
I've given up on my bikini line( if you can call it that) as I get ingrown.

I can shave my legs, get out of the shower, get goosepimples and they're stubbly again. Even epilating I have to do them every day if I want them actually stubble free. Again pale skin and dark hair.

I will be following the lumea users results, there is always christmas.

Onetwothreeoops · 12/04/2015 18:00

poppym12 I found that where it had worked the hairs grew back much more slowly than the others and stopped at a certain length before dropping out (or being pulled out with fingers)

MyVegasBaby · 12/04/2015 18:01

springlamb do you mind me asking which epilator you bought?

poppym12 · 12/04/2015 18:14

So I need to shave in between the treatments every 2 weeks?

hollyisalovelyname · 12/04/2015 18:15

Your doctor could prescribe a cream that is said to eliminate hair.
I think it's called Vaniqa or something like that. I haven't tried it myself though.
The doctor did say if you stop using it the hair grows back.

babyiwantabump · 12/04/2015 18:27

Yes poppy you keep shaving between the first few treatments . It says after about 4 you shouldn't need to anymore as the hairs won't grow as much then

Idontknowwhatitisimwithout · 12/04/2015 18:32

Hi I bought a second hand boots Ipl machine called smooth skin. I've got the right skin tone & it worked a treat on my toes and underarms. It did nothing for my facial hair though which bothers me the most. I sold it & bought a braun facial epilator which I use every 3 days or so, I love it & doesn't hurt (except the little bit under my nose but I'm gritting my teeth & doing it because I know the pain goes eventually, I've always epilated my legs & forarms and it doesn't hurt at all now) The hair on my toes hasn't come back but the underarm hair has lightly (a year later)

poppym12 · 12/04/2015 23:28

Am I supposed to feel anything when using it ? Or anything afterwards? Tried it out on setting 3 as I have the remains of a tan and my hair is mid brown. I felt nothing at all but part of me thinks no pain no gain with hair removal so perhaps I should have put it on a higher setting? How weird waiting to see what happens.

AppleYumYum · 13/04/2015 07:51

I saw a no no advert last night, anyone tried it? I'm tempted by the Lumea, I'd live to be hairless but I have olive skin, is that a problem?

That reminds me of a scandal on an Australian forum about a book by Tizzie Hall called Save Our Sleep. She planted people posing as mothers to rave about it and say how it had sorted out their baby's sleep. Then had the forum delete any negative reviews.

babyiwantabump · 13/04/2015 12:35

Poppy - I used setting 5 on my legs and didn't feel anything. I think that's normal.

babyiwantabump · 13/04/2015 12:36

This is the chart for skin colour and hair colour on the box

Excessive body hair is making me miserable
TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 13/04/2015 16:03

Weird question. I know they say shave as opposed to waxing or epilating. That makes sense. Do you have to shave though or can you just let it grow inbetween? I'm thinking bikini line which I just can't shave.

itsveryyou · 13/04/2015 16:14

I had laser removal, using a Groupon deal (in the US), and it was without doubt the best money I ever spent. I can now go swimming without worrying about re-growth, post-shaving rashes and looking/feeling unkempt. Bikini and underarm laser removal has honestly changed my life and made me feel better about my body.

hollyisalovelyname · 13/04/2015 16:22

Apple the No No is meant to be crapola
