Excessive body hair is making me miserable

Underthedeepblueocean · 29/03/2015 16:27

Please don't tell me I shouldn't be ashamed; I'm not ashamed but I'm fed up.

My legs are like desperate dans. I shaved them yesterday and already they are stubbly. They look like most women's do after a WEEK. Even my legs and toes are hairy Hmm

My eyebrows are okay and can be waxed / threaded but I'm noting an increasing amount on my face including long wiry ones growing from my neck and chin. I pluck three when I see them.

My pubic area is ridiculous. I have pubic hair growing halfway down my thighs and hair removal cream burns me and more pertinently doesn't work. I am utterly fed up.

I don't have pcos or similar. I come from a hairy family. On the plus side I do have beautifully thick swishy head-hair and so do my children. Unfortunately when born they look like baby monkeys. My nearly-1 year old already has a mono brow Hmm

HELP!

The newer model with the Bikini attachment doesn't seem to be available anywhere - does the other model work just as well on Bikini line or Am I better off holding out till the newer one is available? I really want one!!

Aridane · 06/04/2015 13:03

The newer one is available on Amazon (but at higher than the recommended retail price) and by commercial sellers on eBay ( new and with 2 year warranty

Aridane · 06/04/2015 13:07

I really want one to but am going to get the newer one with the bikini attachment as it has a higher intensity. Though another poster found the SC 2600 fine for the bikini line. I just think I am going to get all the help I need - and if I am going to spend all that money, want the latest one...

babyiwantabump · 06/04/2015 14:41

Well I've taken the plunge and gone for the 2600- figured it has more reviews then the newer one ! Excited!!

Aridane · 07/04/2015 07:17

Northumberlandlass - didn't realise you couldn't do a Brazilian. Professional salon I use for other things (with doctors, nurses etc) does Hollywood and peri-anal laser hair removal...

IAmNotDarling · 07/04/2015 07:31

along it is to do with the amount of melanin in darker skin. You can't use it if you have a suntan etc. as it can discolour the skin.

There are professional IPL products available for darker skin - www.brownskin.net/lasertreatments.html

Aridane · 07/04/2015 07:32

After thinking about this for quite a bit - well, since joining this thread - I've decided not to get one as (i) I'm quite lazy and probably won't have the persistence to continue to use it, (ii) not sure I could reach successfully at back of thighs where I have splendid thick, glossy and resilient hair, and (iii) would quite like an extended bikini line done...

So think I will go for salon hair removal when they next have their offer on. Way more expensive but I fear I'll be chucking c.300 down the drain if I purchase this... Sad

Northumberlandlass · 07/04/2015 08:30

Thanks Aridane - I actually don't mind getting brazillian waxed at the moment, it's more the nuisance hair (breasts/ stomach), when I have spare cash I will definitely get my bikini line lasered.
Thanks.

QOD · 07/04/2015 10:04

mowglick instructions say to shave etc before use so you're fine

babyiwantabump · 07/04/2015 11:52

You can do labia majora with it just not minora so under carriage is fine !

Northumberlandlass · 07/04/2015 11:57

OO - thanks Baby.
I am already booked in for a wax tomorrow (hot date on Sat) and so will start shaving (hate it) and using Lumea after the regrowth Smile

Miltonmaid · 07/04/2015 12:06

Is it safe to use around nipples? Blush

babyiwantabump · 07/04/2015 12:22

It says not to use on nipples ! Sorry

It says is safe to use on all areas apart from

Nipples , areolas , anus , labia minora , scrotum , vagina , inside of the nostrils or ears , eyebrows . And if you are a man the beard area

Ketchupwithchips · 07/04/2015 12:28

Years ago I used to have a home electrolysis machine (tweezers/pads) which was beyond useless. Is the Lumea a step up from this ?

Like some PP, I have very pale skin and thick, coarse dark hair on my chin, legs, pits, arms, belly, boobs. I also have fine medium/dark hair on my back. And I'm single.

I tried IPL on my chin (at the private clinic at the Royal Free Hospital in London), it hurt a lot, cost a fortune, and made absolutely no difference to the amount of hair growing, so after having the recommended number of treatments with no visible result, I gave up entirely. I do wonder if it was the thickness/coarseness of the hair that was the problem - and if that might a problem with a Lumea also.

I've tried waxing but had so many ingrowing hairs/infected follicles, it was thoroughly unpleasant.

Hope others have some success with the Lumea !

Aussiemum78 · 07/04/2015 12:47

I've done a course of laser.

An hour, every 7-8 weeks. Expensive but worth it. I did full leg, arm, underarm and Brazilian. She even does my fingers and toes and will zap any strays on my belly.

I've just added chin and lip although my laser girl says to be wary of the face as some people don't respond to treatment on hormonal areas.

I was the same, very hairy with bad ingrowns to boot (I've had one removed by the gp with stitches and several golf ball sized ones and scars).

Waxing takes forever and is expensive. Epilate made ingrowns worse and shaving left me stubbly after 24 hours.

A good laser place is worth researching and paying for.

daftyburd · 07/04/2015 17:22

No nipples? Bah will just go to a salon then. It's the nipples that I hate the most. Always worry I have nipple stubble when I'm with DP. I know deep down he probably wouldn't notice but I fret about it.

Aridane · 08/04/2015 11:04

About salon laser hair removal (which I'm now minded to go for):

  • can anyone who has had it let me know which type of laser treatment they had? there seem to be so many available... are they all much of a muchness, or are some (supposed to be) superior to others?

  • also, how did you cope with the banning on tanning / exposure to sun for quite a chunk of time before and after the treatments. Haven't quite worked out how I'll fit in the repeat sessions at the recommended intervals and still enjoy summer and go on holidays.

Will be going for consultation in due course (once my hairness is restored to full splendour) - but would be interested in any comments etc so I can get the most out of my consultation.

Thanks!!

babyiwantabump · 08/04/2015 20:18

Well I'm all prepped and shaved and about to do my test areas . Will report back on this thread for anyone interested. I have light skin and dark hair so hoping it will work well.

The actual Lumea unit itself is a lot lighter than I thought but it is quite large but feels Ok to hold .

Madamecastafiore · 08/04/2015 20:21

Lumea £150 off in boots at mo.

frankietwospots · 08/04/2015 22:06

Yes, very interested to hear back babyiwantabump

babyiwantabump · 08/04/2015 22:47

Well test area went ok - you are supposed to start off with the lowest intensity for your skin and do test patches increasing up until the maximum for you . I did 3/4/5 on my legs and just a 3 on bikini line and underarms .
The flash is very bright and even though the manual says you don't need goggles I have some green ones on the way from Amazon which should really counteract the red flash.

So the test areas - didn't actually feel anything at all on the legs - not even a warm feeling even on full.
Bikini line - felt a bit warm but that's all.
Underam - made me jump! But not really painful. I used the body attachment for all areas so may use the face one for underarms when I actually do the treatment tomorrow , just to see if it makes it a bit more comfortable !

The one I got Madame was the one currently on offer in boots .

Caravanoflove · 09/04/2015 09:41

Me too Baby

TwoLittleTerrors · 09/04/2015 10:25

I have been singing praises for lumea on MN for years. I bought it about 3 years ago and it has transformed me. I am Chinese so tan skin and dark black hair. Very thick hair too. I have to shave every other day and wax never worked because I can't have long enough regrowth. I look horrid with 5mm regrowth.

I'm on a 3 week holiday atm and I haven't brought anything to remove hair with me. I'm that smooth! Can't recommend it enough for anyone suffering hairiness.

MyVegasBaby · 09/04/2015 14:12

Would this work on hormonal facial hair? Have hit the mid 40s and gone from plucking the odd chin hair to having to veet every day and need to consider other options!Hmm

barbidou · 09/04/2015 15:14

Used mine 3 or 4 times now, on highest intensity (very pale skin, dark quite coarse hair). Some hairs come out when I pull on them which is reassuring that something is happening, it is a slower process than I thought though! Still, happy to persevere.
