Excessive body hair is making me miserable

Please don't tell me I shouldn't be ashamed; I'm not ashamed but I'm fed up.

My legs are like desperate dans. I shaved them yesterday and already they are stubbly. They look like most women's do after a WEEK. Even my legs and toes are hairy Hmm

My eyebrows are okay and can be waxed / threaded but I'm noting an increasing amount on my face including long wiry ones growing from my neck and chin. I pluck three when I see them.

My pubic area is ridiculous. I have pubic hair growing halfway down my thighs and hair removal cream burns me and more pertinently doesn't work. I am utterly fed up.

I don't have pcos or similar. I come from a hairy family. On the plus side I do have beautifully thick swishy head-hair and so do my children. Unfortunately when born they look like baby monkeys. My nearly-1 year old already has a mono brow Hmm

HELP!

I've just bought a Lumea Precision Plus this morning from Amazon. I can't wait - shaving my legs I can cope with, nipple area & tummy I pluck (yes, OUCH), bikini line - I currently get waxed (Brazilian) and I'm not sure I can do it all with a Lumea.

I've read such good reviews, can't wait to try it. Now, question - I am getting waxed in a couple of weeks. Do I leave it until after I get waxed to start? Is it correct that you don't have to have hair there to use it ?

Thanks Smile

mowglik · 30/03/2015 16:41

I'm on the cusp of buying a lumea as well but just had my waxing done today. I think the root has to be present to be 'killed' off by the lumea so either start with areas that haven't been waxed or wait til they start ti grow back. Wont take long in my case but if i buy the lumea this week I will probably start with areas that haven't been waxed (face and toes) and alternate those areas with legs and bikini and underarms weekly.

Also, has anyone used lumea into the bikini area?

piggychops · 30/03/2015 16:51

Another massive vote for a Lumea here. I had pubes almost to my knees, hairy backs of thighs, hairy toes. You name it, it had hair. It's pretty much all gone now
Interestingly the most successful place has been my bikini line.

ToysRLuv · 30/03/2015 16:58

Wow.. I suppose the bikini line would be where the palest skin is that sees light only occasionally.

The backs of the thighs are a bugger to shave and I always miss bits, even if I spend 45 mins on defuzzing. I think I am going to have to beg or steal to get the lumea.

meglet · 30/03/2015 17:59

basically, someone needs to come up with a whole body hair laser, like a step in sun bed.

......

ToysRLuv · 30/03/2015 18:41

I regularly dream of a huge tub of magic permanent hair remover liquid. I would dunk myself in it up to my neck.

Aridane · 30/03/2015 18:54

The Amazon reviews of the product / device are interesting to use - especially the woman with PCOS who updated her review periodically.

She was overally pleased with the results - but gave it 3 stars only. She really really had to persist with use - it didn't give immediate results in short term, and it was only after repeated use that she saw some results.

I think be prepared to commit to the long haul, unless you are one of the lucky one to have virtually immediate results.

It's also 299 on Amazon (as well as Argos) - just seems we should steer clear of Boots! The more recent version (SC2008) with the separate bikini higher intensity attachment costs about 50 more.

I am seriously tempted - but wonder if I have the dedication (especially as I wasn't even sure I had the dedication to have several sessions with someone else doing the lasering on me, when all I have to do is lie down and do nothing...)

Northumberlandlass · 30/03/2015 19:41

I've read the reviews too, I don't have PCOS but have lily white skin & dark thick hairs.
I don't want it for my legs or even armpits. If it could make a difference on Bikini, tummy & gorilla boobs would make me happy

Mine will arrive tomorrow Smile

CalamityPain · 30/03/2015 19:44

I'm exactly the same. I have thick dark on my breasts. Not just nipple hair, but breast hair. It really gets me down and I feel like I'm losing the battle with it. It's everywhere.

McFox · 30/03/2015 20:04

I'm not dissimilar OP, and I epilate, have done for years. It does such an amazing job - my growth is now patchy and soft. It takes me 5 mins to do my underarms once a month, maybe 20 mins to do my legs and bikini line. It's no longer painful because the hair is so much finer than it used to be.

I've had the same epilator for 10 years and it cost me £60 I think - bargain!

If I've ever had to shave (I forgot to take it on honeymoon, arrggh!) then the hair comes back with a vengeance, so I try to never give in to a quick razor job.

Hth.

ToysRLuv · 30/03/2015 20:04

Calamity, have you been to the gp about it?

daftyburd · 30/03/2015 21:01

Oh why did I read this thread ? Now I want a Lumea . I am also very pale but with extremely dark hair . Even when I shave under my arms it still looks dark. I have such a hairy stomach that I used to shave it for nights out . Just in case I was on to a promise !
I dread the weather warming up. The constant leg shaving. I remember when I was pregnant a doctor exclaiming "oh my your hirsute". Thanks Blush

Northumberlandlass · 31/03/2015 08:34

Dafty - I feel the same way. I'm single again now and think that I can't ever just have spontaneous sex, not so much my bikini line although the hair does go all around my bum which I hate, but my gorilla boobs & tummy are awful and I feel very self conscious. I will be over the moon with the Lumea if they could just sort that out.

Have a wax booked in next week for bikini - so will wait for regrowth to start that - but might try my armpits when it arrives.

alongcamespiders · 05/04/2015 21:13

Ok.... I'm of Jamaican descent. Jamaican grandfather, white British grandmother and my dad is white British, so does this preclude me from using it? What is the reasoning behind this guideline for people of black descent not using Lumea? I have had hirsuiteness form a young age and this seems like the Holy Grail to Mr, I was poised to purchase until I read upthread that I mightn't be able to use it.

IDontDoIroning · 05/04/2015 21:25

I've got the boots smooth skin. Bought about 6 years ago so technology has moved on.
I had thick dark hair on tne bsck of my thighs down the inside of my thighs.
Shaving was needed every day and waxing would last a week if I was lucky. Had ingrown hairs etc.
I now understand that's down to the biology of hair growth etc.
I had a few courses of salon ipl and then bought the boots machine which was in of the first ones out.
It's great but you do need to do it regularly first off to kill the resting hairs but now I would say I have 10% of the hairs left so just now zap them as I notice. I would say I have got permanent hair removal for that 90%.
As I understand it the boots technology is stronger than the Phillips so is more permanent.

frankietwospots · 05/04/2015 21:59

Bloody hell, S&B is costing me a fortune! Would never have considered buying a Lumea until I read this thread and now it completely makes sense. Does anyone know if the Philips Lumea Compact SC1981/00 is any good? £200 on Boots.com.

Skinheadmermaid · 06/04/2015 00:54

Can you still shave while you're using the Lumea or any other home device? I know you can for professional laser. I couldn't bare to let my whole moustache and beard grow in while I'm zapping it! Blush

Talisin · 06/04/2015 00:57

Yes. In fact you're supposed to shave before using it. Just don't wax, pluck or epilate because it needs the hair root to exist to be able to zap it.

IDontDoIroning · 06/04/2015 01:02

Skinhead - they say you should shave the hairs before treatment to avoid getting superficial burns. The dead hairs then shed from the skin - it's like they grow but it's just the skin expelling them.
You could shave but in my experience it's just so satisfying plucking them out a few days later as they don't take a lot of pulling and can just fall out without any pain. It's really satisfying.
But I guess you could carry on shaving but as the hairs aren't growing I would guess you wouldn't need to to do it as often as normal.

Valsoldknickers · 06/04/2015 01:07

I sat in the full light of the sun in my kitchen today with the magnifying side of my mirror facing me. Jesus H. Christ! One eyebrow, moustache, bit of a beard and a few small juicy blackheads thrown in for good measure. I am gorgeous, you are not alone (as per the lyrics of M. Jackson). I am thinnish on top (post baby) but a fucking hairy wild woman elsewhere. Can't afford a lumea (but then again, what cost my self esteem and mental health?) Easter Grin

MN please can we have a hairy looking emocion?

Northumberlandlass · 06/04/2015 07:54

I've had a first round zap Smile Have high hopes for this gadget !
The only thing I'm slightly disappointed about, is that I usually get a brazillian on my bikini line & it looks i can't use on my 'under carriage' or around my bum hole (which is also excessively hairy) Sad

frankietwospots · 06/04/2015 09:09

Oh really? So you can't do a full bikini line, just a short back and sides?

Northumberlandlass · 06/04/2015 09:32

That's what it says...not sure why!
