Why do Topshop do this?

I've just seen such a lovely dress at Topshop here. I had a thread a few days ago about wanting a wedding dress that wasn't weddingy and this would have been perfect, but what is going on with the back? I often find at Topshop that you see a lovely dress and then it has no back! There is no way I can go without a bra so there's no chance with this one - so frustrating! Sorry, just ahd to rant Angry

Wow and how about the far too skinny model! Bad show topshop

BikeRunSki · 28/03/2015 16:11

I hate exposed zips too. They don't add anything to a garment.

Mrsjayy · 28/03/2015 16:12

That is gorgeous can you not get those sticky bra things although I like to feel secure

museumum · 28/03/2015 16:14

I've always felt top shop is designed for teenagers. I haven't been able to wear anything that skimpy without a bra since I was 18 :(

Fugghetaboutit · 28/03/2015 16:19

By whose standard is she too skinny?

I'm that size and eat plenty so I take offence to that. Some people are naturally slim and designers prefer slim women.

Fugghetaboutit · 28/03/2015 16:19

I have bigger tits but otherwise I'm the same

Mrsjayy · 28/03/2015 16:20

Yeah top shop is for the young and slender i saw a programme once and a size 8 is a different shape in shops aimed at younger women

CheeseandGherkins · 28/03/2015 16:20

Too skinny? Hmm

Never mind the back, what about the £600!

Mrsjayy · 28/03/2015 16:21

And i don't think the model is that skinny either

MaximumVolume · 28/03/2015 16:23

Is it really £600? Seems a lot for a Topshop dress!

ginmakesitallok · 28/03/2015 16:23

£600 for a dress from topshop??? Maybe someone comes with it to hold your boobs in place?

MaximumVolume · 28/03/2015 16:24

Cross-post with Cheese

Fugghetaboutit · 28/03/2015 16:25

Yeah £600 is a joke

UnderEstherMate · 28/03/2015 16:26

£600 in Topshop?! Blimey!

Annoying about the back though. I have the same problem with the length math of dresses - either too long for my short legs or too short for my cellulite!

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 28/03/2015 16:27

You say you love the dress.

So presumably you love the neckline and straps. I can't see how that design would work if it wasn't strapless to be honest. It has a very delicate ethereal look about it, and it clearly will look best on figures very similar to the model, who don't need to wear bras.

enjoyingscience · 28/03/2015 16:27

It really doesn't look like a £600 dress.

I agree though, no back is a PITA.

cashmerecardigans · 28/03/2015 16:35

I love the style of the skirt and hem really. Even if I could go without a bra I think the back looks a bit tacky. It is a lot but is silk and tulle I guess

Monsoon have some nice not too weddingny beaded dresses.

I like that dress though. I still shop in top shop

BigRedBall · 28/03/2015 16:39

I saw the £600 and was Shock!

Could you get it altered by someone OP? Show them the dress and ask what they can do? But for £600 I'd expect a dress made with plenty of material!

cashmerecardigans · 28/03/2015 16:44

I might well show it to a dressmaker and see if they could make a different version. Otherwise will continue my hunt for secondhand Vivienne Westwood dress with internal corset!

If I had six hundred quid to spend on a dress it wouldn't be in Top Shop. Blimey!

The model is young and slim and small of chest...apparently that is "too skinny" these days. Too skinny for what?

HesterShaw · 28/03/2015 16:47

My issue with the model is she has poor posture

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 28/03/2015 16:51

The thing is that the backless look can look really great if you're the appropriate build and don't need a bra, so I don't mind it because it has a function. I wore backless dresses for most of my twenties. What irritates me is when a dress or top has a pointless little lacy feature over the shoulders which doesn't really achieve anything apart from making your choice of bras difficuly.

I agree that 600 quid is a huge amount to pay for that dress.
