Operation Renovation - get set for summer!

CallingAllEngels · 22/03/2015 11:07

Always loved the renovation threads set up in the past by Helga and control and can't see a current one (and badly need it!).

As always, this thread is for all types of renovation - diet, hair, make-up, clothes, or simply finding ways to make more time for you.

The rules are simple, make a list of 10 things (or as many as you are comfortable with) you will do to start to work towards your renovation goal and decide how frequently you need to do these.

CallingAllEngels · 22/03/2015 11:20

Ds2 is 10 weeks old, I'm due back at work in 7 weeks and would like to get back in shape (and back into all my pre-baby clothes). Am bf atm which limits some of my wardrobe.

My list for now...

  1. Cleanse, tone, moisturise before bed. Far too many nights have just collapsed into bed
  2. Once a week pamper session - feet and facial. (my heels feel like cheese garters atm). probably Sunday nights.
  3. Keep up healthy eating. DH does most of the cooking and he's also trying to shift weight which helps. We're being strict with food shopping and trying to keep processed stuff out of the house and limit treats. It's already helping us both to drop weight, feel healthier and save on our shopping bill.
  4. Start exercising again - I think twice a week is realistic atm. Did go for my first run last week but think I have to take it really easy. Dig out shred.
  5. Vitamins - have pg vitamins to use up and should be taking vitamin D.
  6. Start laying out clothes the night before. Sort through wardrobe so I can find things.
  7. Keep hair nice - deep condition once a week, blow dry (stays nicer for longer and tames frizz) an make sure I get it trimmed every 6-8 weeks.
8.Experiment with some different hairstyles.
  1. Start wearing and using up some of the make-up/perfume I have. No point 'saving it for best'.
10. Moisturise body every day.

Reckon that's a good start for me!

I'm definitely in!

  1. eat my 5 a day or at least more healthy
  2. regular maintenance
  3. stop wearing my uggs
  4. clear up my dodgy skin
  5. 2kg be gone!
  6. exercise 6 days out of 7.
  7. walk dogs
  8. wear clothes I'm happy to be seen in.
  9. get rid of black rings under my eyes or at least hide them better.
  10. get my nails in better condition.
Pixa · 22/03/2015 11:24

I want to be in!

  1. Gym - 3 x a week
  2. Personal trainer - Fortnightly
  3. Face masque - Weekly
  4. Hair conditioning treatment - Weekly
  5. Finger Nails - 2 x a week
  6. Toe nails - Weekly
  7. Eyebrow threading - Fortnightly
  8. Exfoliate - 3 x a week
  9. Skincare routine - Daily
10. 8 glasses of water - Daily 11. 10,000 steps - Daily 12. Follow my personal trainers nutrition plan (6 out of 7 days a week) when it comes through.

I need to get healthy for TTCing; looking good for Summer is just an additional bonus and area of motivation! Smile

Magicrealism · 22/03/2015 12:32

I've been overworked lately and it's definitely showing in my looks. I'd like to look a bit less frazzled by the Summer holidays.

  1. 3x Body combat a week
  2. 3 long walks a week (50 mins plus)
  3. Finish clearing out wardrobe.
  4. Make complete outfits, record and rate in notebook, then only wear top rated outfits.
  5. Sort out makeup and take more care over application.
  6. Only one takeaway per week (have been terrible with this due to working hours)
  7. Porridge and berries for breakfast
  8. Five a day (at least)
  9. Relax more with my Kindle
10. Twice weekly manicure 11. Weekly pedicure 12. Restart facial exercises and stick to them this time.
Roseybee10 · 22/03/2015 14:19

Ooh love this.

  1. moisturise whole body daily including feet
  2. start using my ipl machine again weekly to get rid of leg hair for summer
  3. weekly manicure (self done)
  4. weekly hair treatment/mask
  5. lose 7lbs by start of may
  6. cleanse tone and moisturise every night before bed.
  7. 20 mins exercise 5 days a week
  8. create summer capsule wardrobe using money from selling maternity clothes
  9. floss teeth at least once a day
  10. get rid of all clothes I don't west anymore or don't fit.

Had a baby six weeks ago and seriously need to take better care of myself as I feel rotten.

I'm in! I'm not at home right now but I actually have a list ready to go. I'll put it up soon.

I actually got my hair done last Saturday, cut and coloured. It's a bit shorter than I wanted, it's now shoulder length with chin length layers but I'm getting used to it. Really NEED to get my eyebrows done soon though.

Starting 5:2 again tomorrow, DH has been doing it for a while but DD wasn't sleeping and I just couldn't face it. She's a bit better now though (although she thinks 5.45 is an acceptable time to wake up!).

Will be back with a list.

Helgathehairy · 22/03/2015 18:06
  1. Mug of detox tea first thing instead of tea or coffee
  2. 1.5 litres of water a day
  3. 5:2 diet
  4. Shred 4 times a week
  5. Body brush & moisturise at least 4 times a week
  6. Floss
  7. Take my supplements
  8. No coke
  9. Use eye cream morning & night
10. Wash face every evening
CallingAllEngels · 22/03/2015 18:33

Have just showered, body mois, buffed feet and blow dried hair. Had my vitamins today as well.

Good start!

Pumpkinette · 22/03/2015 19:28
  1. Find a toner that doesn't irritate my skin and start using it daily.
  2. Go to Dr to get something to clear my back acne that's plagued me for that last 8 years. (I've tried everything I can possibly think of already)
  3. Body brush at least 3x a week
  4. Cut down on coffee - aim for 3 cups per day max.
  5. Drink more water.
  6. Put more money into my savings account each month.
  7. Start driving lessons again.
  8. Make a bit more effort with make up.
  9. Sort through wardrobe and get rid of stuff I no longer like/ wear.
10. Continue with weight loss (14lbs down already - 14lbs to go)
JemimaMuddledUp · 22/03/2015 19:51

Ooooh, hello again!

I'm pleased to say that I have pretty much stuck with my lists from the previous threads. Almost without fail I:

  1. Hot cloth cleanse and moisturise morning and night
  2. Get my hair trimmed and eyebrows waxed every 8 weeks (I book the next appt when I pay so that I don't forget)
  3. Swim 3 mornings a week before work
  4. Walk to and from work 5 days a week (between 2-3 miles a day, depending on which route I take)
  5. Yoga at least once a week
  6. Eat healthily, including plenty of fruit and veg. Currently experimenting with a lot of raw foods and green smoothies, inspired by Ella Woodward
  7. Drink 8+ glasses of water a day
  8. Drink no more than 1 coffee a day
  9. Go to bed early enough to get a full 8hrs sleep
10. Plan my week's outfits on a Sunday night.

I would like to lose a little bit of weight before the summer though, only around 7lbs. I also need to keep on top of moisturising - swimming 3 times a week dries my skin something terrible and I need to sort it out before bare leg season!

Tomorrow's food plan is:
Breakfast - porridge made with almond milk, blueberries and mixed seeds
Post swim snack - banana
Mid morning - apple and a cup of fruit/herb tea
Lunch - Carrot and butternut squash soup, slice of wholemeal bread, 2 satsumas
Mid afternoon - dried apricots and a cup of fruit/herb tea
Dinner - salmon with brown rice and salad

Karbea · 22/03/2015 20:01

jemima that's really great! What are you putting in your green smoothies? I'd love you to post your food diary as I'm really going to need some help with my diet.

I've really hurt my back so I've not exercised for awhile but I'm going to try and swim a bit later this week if it continues to ease.
Does anyone know what the perfect combination of different exercising is? I guess yoga (stretching), cardio and weights but I wonder how much of each is ideal?

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/03/2015 20:27

Hi Karbea, I usually put either Kale or Spinach in my green smoothies, but this weekend I bought some chard at the farmer's market so I used that. I usually chuck in some berries of some description and either pear or kiwi. If I want it to be a bit more filling I add some oats and almond butter.

We have a lovely veggie café here that does a lovely beetroot, orange and ginger smoothie, but I haven't tried adding beetroot to the ones I make at home.

My thoughts on exercise are find something that you enjoy as that way you will happily do it regularly, and it is doing it regularly that makes the difference. I love swimming and look forward to it every time.

MsAppleBlossom · 22/03/2015 20:36

oh yes please! I was on a princessing thread but I am a rubbish princess and failed to maintain anything. For example, I went for a run this evening, and then compensated for it with a big glass of wine and two magnum ice creams. Will compile a list and be back Grin

Karbea · 22/03/2015 20:41

jemima does it matter how much of each thing you put in a smoothie?

JemimaMuddledUp · 22/03/2015 21:03

It all depends how strong you want the taste of that ingredient to be! Plus if you like your smoothies really thick then you put less liquid and more things like banana or avocado in. I tend to just chuck handfuls of whatever in, although if you go a bit too heavy on the kale it can be a bit overpowering.

If you google the Deliciously Ella blog she has loads of recipes with more precise quanitities.

lisam78 · 22/03/2015 22:14

Can I join too?? Love these threads, they really keep me focused!

  1. Keep up twice weekly gym sessions, try to add in a third.
  2. Remember to take omega fish oil capsules, hopefully they will help keep my skin less dry.
  3. Drink more water!
  4. Manicure/pedicure weekly (self done, Sunday evening)
  5. Weekly face mask
  6. Weekly intensive hair mask treatment (highlights have dried my hair out a bit)
  7. Body brush before shower, coconut oil as a moisturiser afterwards.
  8. Clear out wardrobe for summer, and get Pinterest board sorted for ideas for summer clothes.
  9. Eyebrows threaded fortnightly.
10. Buy a good, hydrating facial serum, not too expensive - any suggestions?? Grin
Carriemac · 23/03/2015 06:58

I'm in . Will post list later .

CallingAllEngels · 23/03/2015 08:12

Wow jemima well done!

I need to find exercise that works for me. I have to start slowly with running - my running partner has kept going while I was pg so she'll be too fast for me! I guess and exercise dvd is most realistic with a pre schooler and a baby, though have been thinking about a jogging buggy. DS1 will be off to school in the autumn so could use it with DS2 on my days off. I like swimming though I'm not very good at it and the opening hours here are a pain.

I'm off to work for a KIT day (well, a few hours) so have to do my face and polish my shoes before MIL arrives to look after DS2. When I get back I'm going to go upstairs and start sorting out my wardrobe.

pumpkinette I love the Liz Earle toner. Have gone back occasionally to cheaper ones and hated them. They were either too harsh or did nothing.

Helgathehairy · 23/03/2015 08:19

Today is supposed to be a fast day but DD slept badly and has had tantrum after tantrum already this morning. Not sure I'll manage to stick to it.

Karbea · 23/03/2015 12:45

Hello,

Today so far. I forgot to body moisturise. I made a smoothie for brekkie. I've eaten chocolates (3 mini eggs). I'm out and not wearing my Uggs. I am wearing a black top which I shouldn't be as I'm a nearly diagnosed Autumn. Oh and I text my beautician about a pedi next week, haven't had one since jan. My back is still sore so no exercise today.

Helgathehairy · 24/03/2015 11:03

Well I stuck it out and managed to have a fast day yesterday. Didn't manage any exercise though.

Body brushed and moisturised today but forgot my detox tea and had my mug of regular tea.

MsAppleBlossom · 24/03/2015 20:31

Well done on the fast day helga

karbea hope your back's feeling better

How's everyone else?

i've had a crappy day and am predominately grumpy that I have no wine to soothe the evening (this is because yesterday was crappy too, so I finished the bottle last night.)

Still working on my list. I'm going to grumpily go and lie in a hot bath and maybe tomorrow I'll feel like some dedicated self improvement Hmm
