If I see another pair of those Stan Smith trainers... And as for the dungarees - step away from the fads ladies.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/03/2015 18:14

Totally agree re both! :)

WipsGlitter · 04/03/2015 18:23

I actually dont mind the trainers it's the sheeplike attitude I hate!

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 04/03/2015 23:15

I wear dungarees and I love them. Bought my first pair over a year ago. Also recently bought black Stans. Not a sheep, just buy the things I like.

JohnCusacksWife · 04/03/2015 23:20

But following fashion's pretty much about being a sheep isn't it?

WipsGlitter · 05/03/2015 07:09

Yes, following fashion is about being a sheep. Being stylish is about looking at fashion, sorting out what suits you and giving it your own twist.

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 07:46

I'm not wildly interested in being 'stylish' - I dress to have fun. I'm only 30, I can wear tedious neutrals when I'm 60 - right now I love my dungarees and I think they suit me.

WipsGlitter · 05/03/2015 08:30

I think you can have fun and still be stylish! But it's all subjective anyway - I have a friend I think is really stylish, DP thinks not. My point was I would like style blogs to be a bit more than "look at me I've jumped on the latest bandwagon".

OP posts:
AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 08:54

Start one then.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 05/03/2015 08:57

Agreed - the Stan Smiths are so fugly.

Some bloggers seem to feel the need to tick every passing trend, without seeming to consider whether they actually like it or if it suits their look.

This season it's flares, dungarees and those minging trainers.

ZaraW · 05/03/2015 09:04

Don't forget the leather culottes.........

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 05/03/2015 09:04

Stan Smiths have been around for donkey's years. I've worn them and gazelles on and off for 20 odd years! They do seem to be everywhere at the mo though.

Dumpylump · 05/03/2015 09:13

I got a pair of Stan Smiths last summer after I saw them on a style blog and thought "I like the look of those, and I bet they're comfy". I've worn them a lot since then, and now the weather is marginally warmer, they're back out of the wardrobe.
If I had a blog of my own maybe the domino effect would have continued.....doesn't mean it's a bandwagon, it's just how it happens. Nobody's forcing anyone to wear anything - dungarees will not be on my shopping list, that's for sure, and I've only seen one post about them in the blogs that I follow - and that blogger wasn't buying them either!
If people have similar tastes then the same things probably will crop up. My sister and I live over a hundred miles apart, and have access to loads of different shops, but quite often discover we have bought the same thing, whether it's clothes, or something for the house.

AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 09:17

I can say with absolute certainty that I like ever single item in my wardrobe. I don't hold myself up as a bastion of 'style' - my blog is about how to wear the current trend in a workable way as a young(ish) mother of two young children. I'm not telling anyone else how to dress, I just post photos of what I wear in case anyone can get anything from that

We are all, to some extent, influenced by fashion - even subliminally - how many of you have a pair of skinny jeans in your wardrobe when you would have been horrified by them c. 10y ago. Likewise ankle boots - used to be knee high boots that were de rigeur. There are plenty of trend this season I won't be attempting because they don't suit my style or personality i.e. Paisley, peasant tops, mustard yellow to name a few. I pick and chose the things I like and have fun with them. And yes, we bloggers do take inspiration from each other, much as the commentators on this thread obviously look at them too, otherwise you'd be blithely ignorant.

When it comes to fashion we are always reinventing the wheel, but if you think you can dream up some original content, you should start a blog! I'd love to read it.

AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 09:22

And I rock dungarees Wink

Skinheadmermaid · 05/03/2015 13:39

Amber i'm in love with your boots!

squoosh · 05/03/2015 13:44

In my opinion dungarees only work well on 3 year olds.

squoosh · 05/03/2015 13:46

I stopped looking at style blogs as I was tired of seeing the same old stuff everywhere. But it's been so long now and I'm over my fatigue so I might start looking again.

santamarianovella · 05/03/2015 13:50

No one is forcing anyone to buy those trends, and you can make them your own, by dressing them differently, and standout from the crowd, I'm not into white trainers or dungarees, so I'm not buying, but that doesn't make me unique or anything, I know I'll look stupid in them ,but some people look great , amber for one looks fab, because it suits her,

BeattieBow · 05/03/2015 15:00

I've got a pair of stan smiths, so I'm as sheepish as the next person.

However I agree with the OP - alot of the bloggers go off and buy the same things as each other (in fact they all recommend the same clothes - e.g. those next lacy acquazerra type shoes, the M&S flare jeans, the M&S mum skirt, the toga pullas (or toga pulla lookalikes if they can't afford the same thing), etc etc ) so they all look the same!

There's following fashion trends and there's being completely unoriginal. I would love it if one of them went off piste and blogged about an amazing find that none of the others wore, or even started wearing completely different styles.

Apatite1 · 05/03/2015 15:08

There's no way I'm getting in effing dungarees or white trainers like a five year old even if the entire world takes them up. I much prefer my own style to faddy fashion. Each to her own though!

AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 15:46

Obviously no-one is forced at gunpoint to read any of these blogs.

It always amuses me when one of these threads are started, which they are, with tedious regularity, how many posters on here have flawless personal style.

Two questions then:

  1. What do you need blogs for?
  2. Why aren't you writing one?
AmberNectarine · 05/03/2015 15:50

Thanks skinhead, they are of course Toga Pullas because I am incapable of independent thought.

TheLastSolero · 05/03/2015 16:00

I was wearing Stan Smiths in the late 90s and early '00s. Cant believe they are fashionable again...funny! Grin.

Dungarees look sooooo comfy. But I fear they are not a good look on the Kim Kardashian-esque fat arses among us.

Style blogs are fucking stupid. That's my eloquent and articulate pronouncement on the whole bloody genre of blog Wink. A load of old Emperor's New Clothes nonsense...thinly veiled product placement for the most part and yawn some to read.

TheLastSolero · 05/03/2015 16:01

*yawnsome

Playthegameout · 05/03/2015 16:12

I love looking at style blogs. After I had lost some of my baby weight I found them really useful. Not because I buy much of what the bloggers suggest, more because they helped me feel more confident in my own style (which I quite unusual and not in the dungarees or Stans camp at all) . But when I first wanted to put away my new mum uniform of tunic n leggings they helped me find my way back. -now I've gone too far but that's another matter- Grin
