If I see another pair of those Stan Smith trainers... And as for the dungarees - step away from the fads ladies.

OP posts:
Floisme · 06/03/2015 11:16

Keep wearing the dungarees. I won't be joining you this time around but I wore them in the 80s and the ruder people were about them, the more I loved them Grin

Twinklestein · 06/03/2015 15:19

I hope you took my comments in the spirit in which they were intended Amber ie light hearted.

You wear dungarees as well as is possible, I'm just not sure why anyone would want to...

AmberNectarine · 06/03/2015 16:11

Oh of course Twinkle

As for why, I feel the same about corduroy, capped sleeves and waterfall cardigans - we all have our little peccadilloes Wink

Charitygirl1 · 06/03/2015 16:50

Find this dungaree hate very odd. I just bought a pair of white ones - they make me look slim and long-legged. The opposite of unflattering. Plus by dint of being 'new' they make me look fresh and I like that.

The people who rail against the 'sheep' bloggers are probably those who dress the same year in year out, with only the smallest nod to trend - ie moved into skinnies circa 2007. I just couldn't be doing with that.

squoosh · 06/03/2015 16:55

Are you sure you don't look like a slim and long-legged painter & decorator? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

It's just clothes. I don't care if people dislike the clothes I wear. Bloggers, I assume, have to learn to develop a thick skin. You can't post pictures of yourself and call yourself a style blogger and not expect some people to make negative comments.

AmberNectarine · 06/03/2015 17:17

Mine don't make me look slim and long legged (they're dungarees, not a miracle), but they're SO comfy. Ditto the denim boiler suit which probably makes me look like a slightly more hirsute Phil Mitchell.

I always subscribe to the notion 'if you like it, wear it'. I like to look vaguely on trend but only in the things I like, I wouldn't buy anything I didn't really like just to be fashionable. I've been really lucky with fashion lately, it's all the stuff I love - faux fur, leather, trainers, all-in-ones of some description, hats. I'll be sad if it goes back to all-white Pheobe Philo minimalism.

MsBojangles · 06/03/2015 17:54

I'm with you on capped sleeves, vile looking things...would rather wear dungarees! Shock

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/03/2015 17:57

I'd rather have a kind of 'uniform' that I adapt slightly, rather than jumping on every bandwagon going tbh and buying new things just because some man in Paris or whatever has decided to send it down the catwalk.

Because that's how normal people work - their clothes have to last a long time and be used in a range of situations. I'm not prepared to buy ten things from Primark just to have something 'different' - I'd rather have three better things that I can wear for years.

I'd like to see bloggers working a smaller wardrobe, rather than always buying, buying, buying tbh. It makes me feel a bit sick to see some of them having something new, or several things, every week. It's so wasteful.

That's why I like Unfancy because she seems to manage with quite a limited number of items.

squoosh · 06/03/2015 17:57

I'd rather wear dungarees than a peplum-y anything.

Peplums are hideous But I agree with the 'if you like it, wear it' mantra.

squoosh · 06/03/2015 17:59

My sturdy hips don't need a valance.

santamarianovella · 06/03/2015 18:16

I miss the Philophiles days amber , I'm not suited for this year's trend at all,
even pheobe has veered away from her usually minimal approach, lots of textures and movement in her SS designs and bling! I saw chandelier earrings at celine! Shock, its like she was more open to other possibilities , and starting on a new trend.

WipsGlitter · 06/03/2015 18:17

I find the buy more, more, more hard as well. Like having 10+ coats. Or 20+ pairs of jeans. So unnecessary and wasteful.

OP posts:
MsBojangles · 06/03/2015 18:23

Lol squoosh, reminds me of the PETA slogan, 'I'd rather go naked than wear dungarees' Grin

dexter73 · 06/03/2015 18:23

Remus - I totally agree with you about the amount of clothes some bloggers buy being a bit sickening. I do wonder if they keep much of the stuff or just buy it to blog about then return it. I will have to have a look at the Unfancy blog.

FrugalFashionista · 06/03/2015 18:30

Santa the coming season is not at all for me either. I loved the stark aesthetic and clean lines and fresh silhouettes Philo brought to fashion, something entirely new and also somehow very liberating. Reiterating 1970s looks is not the same thing, I'm a bit bored already with what I am seeing.

Thinking of other big shifts, when the Versace-type more is more look gave way to minimalists.

Charitygirl1 · 06/03/2015 18:43

Oh I have definitely lines in the sand - no cocoon/oversized coats, no long cardis, no a-line or skater skirts, no silk scarves, and hardly ever heels. Doesn't matter how fashionable they are. They don't suit my body shape and they make me feel bleurgh. But within what I can wear I do feel that 'freshening' it with things that are new makes it all more fun.

I maintain that slim dungarees (ie without the flappy wide bit at the hips) are leg lengthening!

Charitygirl1 · 06/03/2015 18:52

And I'll never ever never wear a Breton top. Which isn't to say I don't love them on others - but put one on me and I feel like a complete frump.

Silverjohnleggedit · 06/03/2015 19:13

I'm fickle I need a refresh - my fashion hell is a capsule wardrobe - wearing the same thing over and over, eating the same thing week in week out and staying in the same holiday destination for more than a week. I have loads of coats, not many jeans or tops, the coats and jackets are my point of interest.

santamarianovella · 06/03/2015 19:52

Im wondering if phoebe is having pressure from high above, and being pushed to expand and loosen up abit, or maybe she is going on a sort of revolt, either way I think her desgins are in a middle ground between two extremes and you can keep being philophiles or march into a new territory with her, if that's her approach then I think it's a smart move,as it caters to different tastes, while keeping things interesting,

whole 70s vibe is completely pointless frugal, and what makes it worse, is the whole copy and past approach we are seeing, there is no filtering.

The thing is with any trend at its early stage of infancy , and you grab it straight away you have no perceptive how it will end up in the real world, it looks shiny and new in fashion week street style, but in reality it can be very hard to adapt to in real life, and within seconds it evaporates, and you end up with expensive mistakes,

BallroomWithNoBalls · 06/03/2015 19:58

I agree Santa - some of the shoots in magazines so far on the whole 70s thing are so literal with really no new takes on it. Hopefully something will take shape by the summer. It started with flares, but now it's all the same stuff - fringing, centre partings, suede, platforms. Isabel Marant already did the hippy luxe look and that felt fresher than this.

BallroomWithNoBalls · 06/03/2015 20:01

Amber I don't think I could blog - I love fashion and buying / wearing clothes, but I'm not brave enough. I don't mind the criticism, but just for that to be what people find when they google me puts a chill down me - I do have a professional life and I am careful to keep MN far away from it. I name change a lot on here and have no desire to be recognisable. I could do that thing where you blog but hide your face, but that annoys me in bloggers and I don't think it works - plus friends would still know! Isn't it weird being so recognisable?

AmberNectarine · 06/03/2015 21:06

Dunno, I imagine people at my work must know about my blog but no-one has ever mentioned it.

I don't really mind - if my worst secret shame is a love of dungarees then I can live with people knowing that.

SuperFlyHigh · 06/03/2015 21:44

Certain blogs like belindas work one are great. There was someone else linked to last year here who was great (forget name) the rest really I can't see the point in maybe makeup or beauty sometimes good. Investinyourchest is great for bigger boobs but they review too.

I don't slavishly follow fashion though....

And amber bless you but you look like Andy Pandy in those dungarees! Smile

FrugalFashionista · 06/03/2015 21:52

I agree Santa that Philo is looking for middle ground and I'm sure there are good reasons for doing so but when I saw this collection I almost thought of Valentino Wink The clothes are pretty enough but I miss the streamlined stark simplicity (though she herself still seems to dress like that). I love the modern take on power dressing, the new way of looking confident and in charge without the awful mannerisms of teetering in Louboutins. And in some way it's the simplicity and practicality that many women have found on their own and are very happy with, and so many people in high fashion are missing this.

I'm not sure about the financial side of fashion but with the collapse of the rouble, all fashion houses seem to be frenetically courting faraway markets - this will probably mean some more bows and frills. And there seems to be a fair amount of designer burnout - so many collections now and so many competing demands, must feel like a treadmill.

Charitygirl1 · 06/03/2015 21:55

Brilliant passive agressive use of 'bless you' there. Like 'I'm not being funny but...'
