Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

IPokeBadgers · 01/03/2015 15:04

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

Yes. I did. I was tempted to pat butcher it up and get all leopard print. But. I triedto class it up with my outfit.

Ive also found pink. Pink glitter eyeshadow. Thats on next weeks agenda.

FrugalFashionista · 30/05/2015 14:52

Empties: LRP Effaclar H (too greasy for my face, used up on my legs - I got to cut the tube open to scrape, hugely satisfying), a huge 500ml Wella conditioner (great stuff, could rebuy, but will use up two other conditioners next), a couple of Innisfree sheet masks (açai, strawberry, shea butter, all very refreshing) and a few single use Missha essences and ampoules and a not great Lioele primer sample.

Found a couple of old mini face creams in my dresser drawer that will be used up on my legs next. And have really started liking an old Max Factor lipstick (as good as Chanel), also added to the use-up pile, alternating that with a Chanel lippy. I am about 1 cm inside the tube of the Chanel lippy, going to use every single milligram of the product, scooping it out with a fine lip brush, continuing until absolutely nothing is left. The Chanel lipliner is almost gone but was able to sharpen it one more time so at least one more week left.

All this is bizarre, borderline OCD but immensely satisfying!

FrugalFashionista · 30/05/2015 14:55

Ememem loving your eyeshadows Grin
I have a blue eye palette somewhere. Using that up will be a chore...

Costacoffeeplease · 30/05/2015 16:35

Two empties - a l'oreal elvive hair mask (plenty still in stock!) and elemis pro collagen marine cream moisturiser (at least one more in stock) but I'm going to start a Gatineau age benefit moisturiser next

IPokeBadgers · 30/05/2015 18:33

Two empties: another Crabtree & Evelyn handcream - India Hicks Island Living. Good handcream, lovely fragrance. Also a Maybelline mascara, Sky high curves. Had been on the go for a long time Blush Think that was a repeat purchase, decent enough wee product for a cheapie.

I'm almost done with a small bottle of tommy girl. Found it in cupboard unopened. And it brought back so many memories. Tempted to rebuy but may opt for new perfume.

ememem84 · 30/05/2015 23:10

Also re the eye shadows. I'm really enjoying them at present. I won't rebuy the crazy shades (though did walk past a wicked green shadow in mac the other day...) but am really liking playing with it. I put some of the super glitter pink on this afternoon to see how glittery it was. It's actually like wearing glitter. So. Sparkly (and it's also gone everywhere...)

jjwhite · 31/05/2015 15:33

One new empty this weekend:

The Body Shop Papaya Body wash: won't repurchase. Smelt nice but a bit overpowering and artificial (and I've gone off 'fruity' scents recently...) I think you can get decent body wash for a quid or two so don't really see the point in spending much more than that unless you're really wowed by the product.

Now planning on using up all my shower gel minis before buying a new shower gel (they really do just clutter up the bathroom, and I think in future when travelling I'll just decant some shower gel into a travel size bottle).

Eliza22 · 31/05/2015 18:02

I gave in...

Bought EL Double Wear Light. My hot flushes are playing havoc with my tinted moisturiser and when it goes....everything on top (bronzer/blusher) goes with it. Not an extravagance, a necessity.

Empties... Sanctuary Spa Body Butter and finally Liz Earle Superskin (not "super", not for me)

ememem84 · 31/05/2015 21:22

boots lemon shower gel also made the bin today. was nice. def repurchasing. and only £1.

i have loads of travel sized things - need to start using these up too...

woodhill · 01/06/2015 18:47

used up Dr Nick Lowe night cream. this was excellent but will wait and use up other things first.

FrugalFashionista · 01/06/2015 19:11

Empties, single use samples, Korean stuff.
Trying to start using them as they quickly clutter up my cabinets.

Missha Dong Baek shampoo - a nike tsubaki one, works well with hard water, might purchase but want to finish my current bottle first

Missha Snail BB cream - fabulous shade match and full coverage, but a bit too dewy and slippy towards the afternoon - a great BB alternative to EL Doublewesr but not interested in full-coverage right now

Missha pink sunscreen spf 50 - a nice fluid sunscreen with a light floral smell, no white cast and not greasy and easy to pair with makeup, but I prefer Biore and a peach-colored Missha sunscreen (less perfumed)

I used my peach eye shadow quad for the entire month of May bar a few makeup free days. Can definitely see the usage, the nude lip wash and liner shades have definitely a dent to them, but nowhere near hitting pan. Will continue using this quad in June as it is a nice subtle everyday palette. One of the shades is glittery, a lot of fallout, I never find glitter on my face but it all lands on my shoulders

ememem84 · 01/06/2015 20:47

nothing really used up today. but can see pan on my boring beige eyeshadow. only a tiny bit. but its there...!

Eliza22 · 02/06/2015 07:27

Am so sick of this grey weather....have rediscovered and am now using my Bobbi Briwn Bronzer in Medium. And even though it's clearly "false", I don't care. At least I look "well". Smile

IPokeBadgers · 02/06/2015 14:33

I agree Eliza, the grey weather is very depressing!

I have numerous bronzers, including Benefit and Laura Geller - need to dig them out and see if any of them actually work for me.

Oh god yes. This is me. I have a six drawer dressing table full of make-up. I saw the swap thread last week and thought I must photograph/list it all and try to swap or get rid before it goes off. I'm so sick of things going off before i have chance to use them. I'm not so bad with toiletries but make-up is terrible. I buy so much and then just leave it if I don't like it.

I have loads of Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks that I haven't worn because they're too bright for me (I fell for the hype of the 'red lip')

I also have a Dior make-up case with eye shadows and lip gloss which I've never used as it's too 'cool' for me.

Tragic.

Annarose2014 · 02/06/2015 15:48

Eliza the EL DWL is very good though, I think well worth a punt. I used it for ages on the wards as it was the only thing that lasted a 12 hr shift on my face. But it is a bit drying and eventually my skin needed something else. Hope you love it!

I've started adding new things to my "use it up" basket. I'm almost finished with a BB cream - another week I reckon - so have added Nars Sheer Glow to the basket, which I've never really loved. Would like to shift it this year, even though there's a good half a bottle left.

This whole "use it up" mindset has definately bled into clothes as well. I'm not going to keep things for good anymore. All those pretty tops I wear only when meeting someone for lunch once in a blue moon? Fuck it, I'm wearing them to Tesco!

Annarose2014 · 02/06/2015 15:50

JJ think about pouring all your shower gel minis into one bottle. It'll be a new smell but lets face it, all shower gels smell fruity so it'll be fine. That way you have lesss clutter and you work on them all at once.

jjwhite · 03/06/2015 13:15

Thanks for the suggestion Annarose I think I'm going to do just that...

I'm having a bit of a downer week - nothing seems anywhere close to being finished. I seem to have run through all the samples and now just have loads of full size products that seem to last forever and ever.

On top of that i've been working at home so am not wearing makeup most days and not doing anything with my hair. The only thing that's getting a look in is deodorant and my regular skincare routine at night :-S

I'm also dying for some sunshine so I can start using up all the various SPF/moisturisers etc. that I want to get rid of!

ememem84 · 04/06/2015 09:42

Batiste dry shampoo. Done. I may have used more than my fair share this morning in order to use up...!

jj I'm also home today and for next few weeks so would usually not wear any makeup. Today I've slathered on an awful lot of moisturiser to help my skin heal and refresh. And have done a foot treatment.

It's supposed to be 24 degrees here today with uv 7. But as I'm studying in stub indoors (we don't have an outside...) so little chance to use up sunscreens today. Next week when I'm on holidays though....!

Eliza22 · 04/06/2015 10:17

Lloreal Tubes Mascara....binned before its time. Not that great on and an absolute swine to get off!

There's a couple of things I've tried to use up recently and there's clearly a reason for my shoving them in a drawer and their gathering dust... guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and bin and chalk them up to experience #expensivemistakes

ememem84 · 04/06/2015 10:52

Can you use them somewhere else? Obviously if mascara or similar you can't use as foot moisturiser. But that's what I've been doing - if it's meant for face but doesn't work or I don't get on with it for face I use someplace else - eg feet.

Annarose2014 · 04/06/2015 12:44

Had a bit of a feelunique splurge last night but its not TOOOO bad. I had to repurchase the Redken Anti-snap (aka lifesaver) and Redken was on a 3 for 2. So yep, got a shampoo and conditioner on top of that. But I justify it that I'll definately use a shampoo and conditioner as opposed to a fancy "treatment" thats shoved to the back of the cupboard. Also, one of them was free!

Where it gets harder to justify is the other two things in the basket. One was the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre moisturiser (but it was 25% off! And my one and only moisturiser is about to run out!)

And......a Real Techniques Sculpting brush. Yeah.....no justifying that really. It just looked AMAZING. Blush

Butbutbut I haven't bought any makeup in aaaaages and have hit pan on a 4th eyeshadow in my N2 palette and have used up quite a lot of stuff.

So yeah....I don't feel too bad. I feel like I'd have made an awful lot more damage before this thread started.

Annarose2014 · 04/06/2015 12:46

Oh and there was a 15% discount code on top of all that (STYLE2015) so I actually saved 20 quid on my order in total. Felt good about that.

Eliza22 · 04/06/2015 13:45

Take the shame Annarose, take the shame! Grin
