Ashamed of my beauty product hoard!

IPokeBadgers · 01/03/2015 15:04

I have spent some time this morning trying to sort and tidy my beauty and toiletries cupboard and I am actually feeling veryShock andBlush at the sheer volume of stuff that I have, much of it lovely and expensive and unopened!

I reckon it could take me a couple of years to get through it all!

Buying make up as well as lovely bath and shower stuff seems to have become my go to/default pick me up when I want to impulse buy...... but seeing the hoard has brought me down.

anyone else like this and are there any threads that would encourage me to stop buying stuff and use all the lovely products that I have?

please tell me I am not the only person like this?

I have an empty! The apricot-smelling souffle texture face cream - used on body - is gone! I thoroughly enjoyed using it up, it is absorbed in minutes and was not sticky and felt like a treat every time I used it because it was nice but not mega expensive. Will not repurchase but still have a couple of backups Blush Back in the day when I used this as a face cream I never managed to finish a jar.

My LRP Effaclar K moisturizer will be gone tomorrow. It is my favorite cream for wearing under makeup, moisturizing and acne neutral. The only downside is an oily smell but I'm willing to overlook it because it works so well! Have a second tube (I have probably needed to buy a tube when I have forgotten to pack this) so no new purchases needed.

Honey I will enjoy the empty space. Might buy a couple of new really special products too but only after I significantly reduce my stash. If it is a great product and I run out, I am allowed to repurchase it. I am actually quite enjoying my old product when I am experimenting with them. Will be tested tomorrow as I will go theough duty free. A lot of my purchases have been mindlessly bought to relieve the boredom of travel.

Welcome Hiawatha! I've heard about the plastic pellets too and because I don't fancy them in my fish dinner, I am not buying stuff like that any more. Unfortunately I still have an exfoliating shower gel that contains them but hope that it will soon be gone!

Women's Aid refuges are often pleased to accept donations of unused toiletries for women who have left home with nothing - there are donation schemes running through Facebook.

legohurtswhenyoustandonit · 16/03/2015 20:52

What will happen when I use up my stash? DH will get his wardrobe back! I've currently got a Boots gift set in there because we were short of space and there wasn't anywhere else to put it.

Honeypot1 · 17/03/2015 17:55

Just finished a moisturiser! Dear with a pump hidden bag type bottle. Thought it would last forever but no! So happy!!! Grin

IPokeBadgers · 17/03/2015 21:06

When my stash runs down I will try not to let it get so out of hand again: not have such a huge stockpile taking up both physical and mental space.

I am pleased to have two more empties to report: a crabtree & Evelyn là source hand cream which was lovely (already have a spare tube, one of the many handcreams in my stash) and a no 7 Beautiful Skin Hot Cloth Cleanser, a repeat purchase for me but won't buy another one until i have used up some of the cleansers in the hoard.

Honey thanks for that, both Thr meat and Thr mascara tip!

Today's empties - a small bottle of verbena shampoo from loccitane, a molton brown hand cream and a Clinique chubby stick. I have plenty of other hand creams but I am tempted to replace the chubby stick, I really liked it, however I am going to hold out for the moment.

I did succumb to buying a magazine because it had a free balance me radiance face mask for £2, but I used up the face mask stash last year so I don't have lots of them - just the one I am using to finish so it feels ok.

MsVanRein · 17/03/2015 23:54

I will probably always have a bit of a stash but hope to be a bit more selective and try to purchase only things I know I will use!!

Have another empty - a Glamglow mask, no need to repurchase atm as have a new one already Grin

Honeypot1 · 18/03/2015 07:17

Ooh, was contemplating glamglow! Which did you use? (I have large pores & have read one of them would be fab!)

Finished Armani primer today! A little sad as it holds good memories; my wedding day! SEVEN.5 YEARS AGO!!!! In that time I used an elf one too. That, I've repurchased as despite being 1/4 the price it works well.and like I've 'fessed to before, if it's dear I don't use it much.

I act liberally when cheap!

Now I've sorted my stash (& am working through things faster than I thought) one of my drawers will be replaced with flannels (which are improving my skin which I'm double cleansing at night) I'm using a vitamin c oil with soap & glory fab pore hot cloth cleanser at night & simple refreshing cleanser in the morning. Similar happy memories as purchased when skin went crazy with DD1 - FIVE YEARS AGO!!!

The other eight drawers may justify a new hobby!

Eliza22 · 18/03/2015 07:27

Finished Sebastian Laminates shampoo which the hairdresser talked me I to when I had my highlights done. Will not be replacing....my John Frieda was just as good, at half the price.

Struggling with my Bobbi Brown BB cream. It's like glue, on me. Today, I may use much less of it under my usual Clinique Perfectly Real foundation, as my SPF35 (BB is SPF35, which is why I bought it).

DH brought me an old old favourite lippy from the US last week. Mac Brave... Haven't used this for a long time, but it's a beautiful MLBB. One of the perks of DH's job....lots of Duty Free

WellTidy · 18/03/2015 09:47

Honey I have a pot of glamglow. I asked for it for my birthday last year, having heard amazing reviews of it. I was really hopeful. I have found that it makes no difference to my skin at all. It is a tiny bit softer after using it, but no softer than it is after using my normal daily moisturiser. I was gutted. DH bought it in M&S and I think it was in the region of 40. I have maybe one application left and I will not be re-purchasing. My pores are not large though (I have dry skin, and I was hoping it would make my skin more radiant).

MsVanRein · 18/03/2015 16:44

Honey - I have the youthmud Tinglexfoliate mask. Its the only one I've tried as was the only mask they did when I started buying it but I have found it to be fantastic.

Can't fault it it's like a mini face lift skin is brighter and tighter after using. I don't have big pores but it gets mine squeaky clean. Can be breakout prone a day or two after but then I'm like new! Smile

FrugalFashionista · 19/03/2015 17:32

Nothing finished yet except a mini of hotel shampoo but a couple of drawers I have been afraid of opening are looking much nicer. I have taken stuff out, organized it on my nightstand and bathroom shelf so that stuff will be used up. Leaving on a trip tomorrow. Would love to take quite a few items with me but my preference is hand luggage only so everything will need to be ultra compact.

Have been contemplating my two travel-size packages of Les Meteorites powder pearls. They are very pretty but am not sure that they make any difference. What are they supposed to do?

Eliza22 · 20/03/2015 07:27

Bourgeois mascara finished and binned. Moving on to an Estée Lauder GWP mini mascara, now.

Eliza22 · 20/03/2015 15:58

Also, estee lauder Double Wear concealer. Finished and thrown and now moving on to my Clarins one not sure why I abandoned it in the first place

Costacoffeeplease · 20/03/2015 16:18

Re-purposed eye cream as hand cream finished today. Started another one to get rid of it!

Honeypot1 · 20/03/2015 16:39

Well done on the empties! I did a body butter today! Grin

Frugal, as for the meteorlites beauties I HAVE NO IDEA what they are supposed to do?! I'd like to think they are fabulous, dah-ling, & my life has been sadly lacking because of their absence?! But bet they look pretty on your dressing table? Smile Remember, if it doesn't give you joy & it's not pass-I able, you can always bin it?

I'm still flirting between cleansers at the moment. Think I'll finish three in the next week!

IPokeBadgers · 20/03/2015 20:11

flirting between cleansers - this is SO what I do! Grin

woodhill · 21/03/2015 14:03

yd came home and asked for mascara and borrowed a cleanser, also gave her a clinique eye shadow.

Honeypot1 · 22/03/2015 06:56

L'oreal micellar water finished! Not sure I'd rebuy, but only because mumsnet raves about the garnier one. Anyone know the difference (except the price! Wink)

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 22/03/2015 13:41

Honey, I have the Garnier one and I could rave about it too. It lasts ages, takes all make up off so invert junky easily, no residue, very gentle etc. I would re-buy, but I have loads and loads of GWP make I premiers that I need yuk get through before I can let myself buy anything else.

I am now slathering sachets of face creams over my body to try and get to the stage of boasting of an empty!

woodhill · 22/03/2015 13:49

ds claimed there was no shampoo for him hence using my one, I used up the bottle he claimed was empty and asked him to use the final bit. did he hellConfused

hopefully dh will, the men in my house are worse having lots of things on the go and not using things up

IPokeBadgers · 22/03/2015 14:45

Honeypot are you me?! Lol I was coming on here to say the same about the loreal micellar water....finished the bottle last night! Won't repurchase, it was fine, did the job but felt that there was a slight smell to it that I didn't like. Might try the garnier one in future but will see what else I can work my way through first.

OP posts:
Eliza22 · 22/03/2015 18:07

Garnier one you get about 400mls of product. It's fantastic for eye makeup removal. I'd not be without it and it's always £2.99 at Savers.

MsVanRein · 22/03/2015 18:10

More empties here - another mini TTDO eyes, a travel size Clinique clarifying lotion, sample sizes of aveda smooth infusion shampoo and conditioner and aveda damage remedy mask, Ted Baker lip crayon.

Will repurchase Clinique products but already have replacements in my stash. Might repurchase the aveda mask but trying a new one this week so will see what I like best. Not the biggest fan of the lip crayon but I will mourn the colour.

Have acquired a sample size orifluido hair oil and sample size chubby stick Grin

Honeypot1 · 24/03/2015 19:43

Damn! Just found two more forgotten cleansers in the overly packed shower! Good news is, both nearly done. Bad news is, wouldn't repurchase. I've bought a squillion cleansers and am still yet to find my HG.

Harrumph.

When pigs fly and I'm finally through my cleanser stash I've promised myself to only try new ones from the mini travel section in Boots (recently saw they do Sanctuary spa ones) so I never have this problem again! Grin
