Here you go...

OP posts:

I used to love Fade to Grey - Steve Strange can't have been that old can he?

Rose - I think the problem when we ski is that we stay with our parents in law so it's not exactly partying. Also no internet so no refuge that way - I think I will pass seasons 5and6 of Downton to DD so she can binge watch. I think this will be the last ski like this as parents in law are too old and cranky and it's true we are a lot to cope with (and we speak English).

Meanwhile, DD2 wants to apply for a Cambridge masterclass which is, of course, the weekend after we visit. DD1 does not want to lodge her for a week as - they don't get on brilliantly and it's 4 weeks before exams and DD1 is finding it tough. Cue - enormous row over FB messenger and Skype. I can see both points of view but it seems crazy (and expensive) to come back here only to set off again. Have contacted my parents so she can go up north for two days. Sigh - I wish they could get along together. DD2 has said she's cutting DD1 out of her life!

...and after that rant, strength to the others with difficulties with their DD's. I think it's us parents who need stress counselling sometimes.

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 08:29

More sheets in the washing-machine. I'm the one who needs those sodding mattress pads Angry Angry

Hattie, a week of one's sister before exams would probably be tough. Like you, I can see both points of view. Fortunately my two seem to be getting on fine at the moment. I realise I am probably living in a fools' paradise and Something Will Happen...

Blackduck · 13/02/2015 09:21

Thanks all for the advice - like the BMI thing!
Last night we shared a bean burger (it was HUGE), chips and coleslaw so he does eat elsewhere. its the long day thing that worries me.

Sorry to hear everyone's woes! I am knackered too - collecting ds from snorkeling tonight and heading to London for a couple of days. Then back home Monday - work for two days and then five days off (oh joy - can't wait!)

BTM have a fab half term break.

hattymattie · 13/02/2015 09:43

Thanks MI - I sort of wish our family was more like The Waltons. I get the impression that Cambridge is also rather more stressful than Newcastle was for me!

Rosebag · 13/02/2015 13:29

It's just occurred to me, I had a steady boyfriend all the way through my O' level year, and we saw each other every week on Sat nights, and through my O levels and his A levels. Our view was we needed a night off revision
for snogging and the like Grin
We didn't fail, or anything. How times have changed.

Hatty can you get her a dongle for her computer or are your PiLs really in the back of beyond? We used a dongle at the flat before we discovered a good BT hotspot (we're BTinternet customers). It was quite good.

Blimey, Steve Strange was 55…only a year older than me Shock

I have caught up with ConS this morning for a morning of making a too- nice character a bit of a bastard to up the drama a bit. We are SO close to finishing this now…have a 5 (five,v) hour session arranged for after half term.

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 13:35

I am mujlling over making my fiction work in a different way, but haven't quite worked it out yet.

cremolafoam · 13/02/2015 13:41

Hatty , it's the 10week term thing - they have so much to absorb and then regurgitate onto stressy exams. Plus I think the level of competition is very high.
Dd has had to ask for a couple of extensions on essays due to stress. Her tutor has been absolutely brilliant in this regard. Dd says the minute the deadline lifted, she was able to do her best work. Poor kids.

WAF happy bloody birthday mrs.hope it was great.ThanksWine

This magnesium thing is interesting. I must investigate. It may indeed help me.

Dh is taking me out tonight to an expensive Italian for valentines treat.
I plan to wear my red shoes of loveliness. No idea what else to wear though.
Working, Sat-Tues with a couple of 12 hour shifts in the mix.. Filled with dread.Sad
Taking time off appeals MI. Very much.

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 13:52

Cremo, how romantic! I imagine we will be having all kinds of rows in the car throughout the whole of Valentines day!

I am going to call by the Health Store to see if I can get any magnesium this afternoon!

God, I was under no stress whatsoever at my Poly in the 80's. So sorry for those students who are having to work rather than party these days!

herbaceous · 13/02/2015 14:53

What ho crepeys. Scary observation all over, and I am still alive, though knackered. As predicted by all, it wasn't too bad. I did lots of things wrong (and kind of knew I was doing them wrongly at the time, but had brain freeze) but the students were all very engaged with the lesson, and seemed to learn what I was trying to teach. Which I guess is the main point.

I'll have my formal feedback next Friday, but was told 'it's fine. nothing to worry about here'. Which while hardly a ringing endorsement at least means I haven't failed.

I gave my mentor a copy of The Meaning of Liff as a thank you present, and it went down a storm.

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 15:14

Well done Herbs! Great end to a week!

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 15:46

I remember Saturday Night Snogging

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/02/2015 16:00

Phew, Herbs. Go and have a nice G & T now, and relax. Tis the weekend!

WAF - happy belated birthday! Another Queer Arse among us!

Went to DD1's school today for her IB choices day, which was a bit of a waste of time and a bit shit, but redeemed by her lovely, lovely Chemistry teacher (Chemistry is her worst subject), who was blunt and straight to the point, but in a lovely way.

Crem - red shoes and no knickers is the way to go. Grin

The Inland Revenue have sent me two different tax codes for this year and yet another one for next year. Who knows if any of it is right? The main thing is that I should be a bit better off as of 1 April. So I am going to treat myself to a nice new food processor.

In other news, the kitten has been leaking, most unpleasantly, at both ends.

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 16:26

I remember snogging too

Stropperella · 13/02/2015 16:44

Still slogging my way through work and fading fast.
Have found this, which made me go "Ha, yes!" A little light reading

Herbs, yay, it's all done. Relaxxxxx

Stropperella · 13/02/2015 16:45

I still do lots of snogging. Grin

Auriga · 13/02/2015 17:18

Hmm. Day began badly with t/c to BIL. He'd said he wanted some 'advice'.

Turns out that was the last thing he wanted. He has, in fact, ignored every word of the (good) advice I've already given him about debt management, getting help, benefits etc. He hasn't even contacted the mortgage company (or anyone else) to warn them he's having difficulty paying.

No, what he actually wanted was money. A lot.

Annoyed with myself for saying yes. I know it doesn't help. It just allows him to go on putting his head in the sand. And has wiped out my earnings for months.

Aaaargh.

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 17:29

Oh Auriga. Is it too late to tell him sorry you've realised you cannot do this???

Stropperella · 13/02/2015 17:37

Oh no, Auriga :( Can you not say you have recalculated and realised you can't afford to give him x and then scale it back (a lot)?

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 17:41

Oh Auriga, you are just too saintlySad Do what the others say and say it's got to be less (if you can't say no).

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 17:53

I have snogging opportunities but only with Mr Inferior. It's not the same. Not at all.

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 18:09

It is not the same. At all.
DH has many qualities (like being able to put snow chains on the car when it is parked on our roadWink) but he is not that keen on snogging.

hattymattie · 13/02/2015 18:18

Mine neither BTMSad .

I can feel myself getting cross as DD2 has friend here - she has packed nothing for tomorrow. I have slogged up to Gare de Lyon and back to deliver DS to his father and returned to a dirty kitchen and the pizza not even in the oven. I really don't want to have to drive D friend home but apparently she's getting the 7.30 bus and it is now 7.15 and they haven't eaten. I am tired and want to slob out with wine. This kid hasn't got a mother and is really waify so I cannot put her out in the rain to catch a bus.[angry. I do feel that DD2 acts like she lives in a four star hotel.

motherinferior · 13/02/2015 18:23

If she was going to get the bus, she can get the bus. 'Course she can. They're not babies. Then DD2 can bung the pizza in the oven and go and pack.

Auriga · 13/02/2015 18:24

DH is a champion snoggerGrin That's a more cheerful thought.

I can afford the money, it's just that it leaves me feeling used (and far from saintly. Don't think saints do as much cursing as I've done today).

bigTillyMint · 13/02/2015 18:49

AurigaGrin (re the champion snogger!)

I am hoping that DD has actually packed her stuff as her 2 besties are now here... Meanwhile, I am seriously not in the mood to get anything sorted, least of all food for the journey and panicking about what we have forgotten.
