Style blogs for thirtysomething's?

pinkhollie · 06/01/2015 11:05

What blogs or pinterest boards do people follow for style and fashion ideas? I'm (just) 36 on maternity leave with my 2nd DS and am finally able to have a proper look at my clothes knowing I am unlikely to need maternity stuff again.

OP posts:
SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 07/01/2015 14:26

Thanks Amber, I'll take a look. I don't want to be impressed necessarily, it's mainly for a bit of inspiration when I'm having a cant be effed to go out day and I find I respond better when I read posts from normal people who experience the same (rather than super keen athletic types) and I can follow it up with a post about new boots or a new lipstick

Has anyone mentioned Amber's blog btw?

noddyholder · 07/01/2015 16:56

Sincerely Jules is very nice for casual and young ish! Some nice daytime looks and jewellery nails etc

Millli · 07/01/2015 17:14

I don't like to mention it as most on here don't seem to like her but KatGotTheCream has just returned to running. Someone else has also mentioned Styleguile who is a regular runner. She is also a successful stylist. She seems lovely but I don't like the way she puts clothes together myself. Blush

Millli · 07/01/2015 17:18

Just had a look at your blog Amber. Never seen it before. Will have a proper look later but have to say that I love your hair Grin

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 07/01/2015 18:07

Thanks milli, I'll look at those running/style ones Smile

JemimaMuddledUp · 07/01/2015 18:20

I haven't seen KatGotTheCream before, but I kind of like it. I do wear a lot of Boden though, that's probably why.

I also like schoolgatestyle and styleguile.

I don't like the really high fashion ones as that just isn't the sort of thing I wear.

noddyholder · 07/01/2015 18:22

I think you are more likely to see someone similar size shape type to yourself out and about in town or a bar or something and get ideas from them.I don't think I would ever copy from a blog I think I am the wrong generation. I like looking at some of the things but prefer RL

MsBojangles · 07/01/2015 19:06

Bum40 praises Hush to high heavens and while some of it's quite nice, other pieces she gushes about are absolute shite, like that tuxedo thing - the fabric was so lightweight and cheap it was like something from New Look, sans cheapy price tag of course.

I get the feeling she's running the blog more like a business than a bit of fun these days.

ZammoMcGuire · 07/01/2015 19:09

that AWFUL multi coloured coat.. LIKE VOMIT

FrugalMcDougal · 07/01/2015 19:31

Kat Cream blog is really not stylish. Its too smug for me. Also so unfair to show so many pictures of your children when they're too young to consent. Makes me uncomfortable.

I like Bum40 as she does have a sense of humour and somehow despite clearly having huge budget doesn't come across as smug or trying too hard. I think its because she is self deprecating or something.

I also like MyFashionableForties and think that her style could easily apply to 30s!! She hardly ever blogs though so its all a bit slow.

Millli · 07/01/2015 19:39

Can anyone give me some blogs for over 45 women please. Thanks Smile

BoftheP · 07/01/2015 20:17

The Satorialist? It's a street style blog, just pictures of different people all around the world looking stylish. Good for inspiration rather than "look at these jeans from Next" sort of thing. I have to say a lot of the blogs mentioned on here are just a little....err..... DULL.

And what noddy said... I get a lot more inspiration from seeing what other people are wearing out and about.

Millli · 07/01/2015 22:04

Thanks BofthP. I work from home and live in a very very rural part of Wales so don't tend to get out much. Do like people watching when I managed to make it to the nearest big town though. (smile)

Theonlyoneiknow · 07/01/2015 22:21

Just marking place, lots of great looking blogs to check out

Daters123 · 07/01/2015 23:04

Do people really think the Kat Cream blogger is stylish? She has lovely shots of her family and her sofa. But the way she puts clothes and accessories together is, erm, interesting. She gets away with it because she's tall and very attractive, can't see that random hodgepodge style suiting many people.

I feel mean saying this, but I'm really surprised people consider it stylish. She's a good looking woman with a great body wearing random clashing clothes!

Millli · 07/01/2015 23:15

Well I like it cause its quirky. She is best known for her charity shop finds more than anything else.

Annarose2014 · 07/01/2015 23:28

Buynowbloglater X a million. She's candid and so down to earth and self deprecating. She buys a lot of affordable stuff too - ASOS, Zara, H&M etc.

And isn't sponsored! She just did a blogpost about the whole subject of commercial tie-ins, it was refreshing.

CointreauVersial · 07/01/2015 23:50

Squeezycheese - What Lou Wore is another blogger who runs.

Blanketontheground · 08/01/2015 00:03

Has anyone come across a decent workwear blog? Most are too caudal for work (office type job) and I really struggle.

Blanketontheground · 08/01/2015 00:04

Casual even!

StupidFlanders · 08/01/2015 02:09

Amber what's your blog? I've seen you in other posts talking about great clothes....

StupidFlanders · 08/01/2015 02:11

Got it!

AmberNectarine · 08/01/2015 07:49

I don't post as much as I should - trying to rectify.

Ooh yes, forgot Lou is a runner, she is very nice as well!

Blanket I think Belinda's blog the Workwear Edit is the best out there.

Fairylea · 08/01/2015 07:57

Hmm. I'm 34 and I wouldn't touch any of those blogs with a barge pole. Sorry.

I just look at asos, topshop, new look and sometimes river island online and see how they have put things together on their trend / "new things in" pages and try out things I like.

I don't really dress any differently to how I dressed mid 20s apart from maybe looking for a slightly longer version of a skirt for example as I am now a size 16 and not a size 12. But that's more about my own body confidence.

I wouldn't dream of buying the majority of my clothes from Boden even if I could afford to. I think it's very frumpy. I see it as 45+ not for someone in their 30s but I appreciate we all have different views.

I tend to wear a lot of new look things thrown together with a good pair of skinny jeans and a lot of layering. I love to wear longer baggy jumpers (I size up, sometimes to a size 20 to get the effect) over skinnier bottoms and I love boots - biker boots or doc martens.

StupidFlanders · 08/01/2015 08:26

Amber I just saw a heap of lovely things I never knew existed on your blog. Bugger.

I'm torn these days between dressing myself or my house.
