Have just seen a beige ( supposedly grey)fake fur coat that is not sexy but love it. It's cosy.

Am also partial to chunky knits and heritage fabrics. Anyone else?

Will not stretch to mum boots though!

OP posts:
Eustasiavye · 04/01/2015 19:21

Birkenstocks for me too.

MakeMeWarmThisWinter · 04/01/2015 21:38

Leggings (in my defence I'm pregnant) and UGGs.

Fishandjam · 26/01/2015 22:55

The Gudrun Sjoden sale was sold out of my size but I'm experimenting with a plain jersey maxi skirt (£5 from eBay) under a wrap-style tunic I already had, with a normal length cardigan. Believe it or not, I've had two favourable comments. (No doubt the unfavourable ones were uttered sotto voce behind my back Grin )

MmeGuillotine · 27/01/2015 17:41

My style of dress is goth/vintage alternative (which according to the other frumpy thread automatically transcends frump, although I'm not so sure about that tbh!) but I often find myself getting a bit wistful about Molly Weasley's clothes in the Harry Potter films. I love it. I bet she has loads of (self knitted and probably burgundy) waterfall cardigans stashed away in the Burrow. And probably some nice comfy mum boots too.

OneLittleLady · 27/01/2015 17:54

Just going to add, I now have FIVE onesies, my latest one being a care bears one. Grumpy Bear to be exact. Still no shame and no regrets

Fishandjam · 27/01/2015 23:04

I've only got one onesie. But it's a dinosaur one.

mowglik · 28/01/2015 08:08

Mine are waterfall cardies, uggs (seen as chavvy more than frumpy), Birkenstocks, parkas and scarves in every colour

Am lusting after onesies now

TeaAddict235 · 28/01/2015 14:02

I love my mum's. ...waxy coat!

stop.the.bus!

Oldraver · 28/01/2015 22:55

I have some Red or Dead sandals I wear in summer, they support my arches (cant be doing with all these gladiator styles that are a piece of flat leather) and are comfy... they are the kind of thing I wore at school about 40 odd years ago. I dont care

MrsKravitzFromAcrossTheStreet · 29/01/2015 10:43

You lot are absolute fuckers. Now I have found out what Saltwater sandals are I must have them, but they cost much more than I would normally spend on sandals AND there isn't a stockist anywhere near me so I can try them on!

KissyBoo · 29/01/2015 10:49

I might be in need of some Rocket Dog Sugardaddy boots in old git 'chestnut'. I know they are disgusting but I am feeling quite inexplicably drawn. Biddy-tastic.

KissyBoo · 29/01/2015 10:55

Ooohhh I love a bit of artsy-fartsy Gudrun Sjoden style layering too. Bloody marvellous.
May I suggest the underrated addition of an over knee striped sock to really bring it together?

Am going to be using that 'stop he bus' phase too. That's a bloody gem Grin.

My worst frumpalina hankering at the moment is for a pair of Fairysteps. I want weird pointed boots. Really want them.

Gatekeeper · 29/01/2015 11:05

Kissyboo I don't they are disgusting at all

love this thread...love tweed, merino wool jumpers with cardis over the top. I alos have a 1940s despatch rider jerkin in a conker brown which I also wear

Last month I found a pair of incredible men's pyjamas still in original packaging "British Empire Made" for two quid in a charity shop. They are sage green and grey striped and fabulous thick flannelette.

I love old pyjamas and hanker after those wool dressing gowns men wore in the 30's/40's

squizita · 29/01/2015 11:13

I'm heavily into the vintage scene (NOT twee 50s party dresses with cupcakes on) and loads of my wardrobe sounds like this thread!

The other half is standard slightly slutty rock chick.

Together it averages out as "normal". Wink

squizita · 29/01/2015 11:15

Oh and ponchos. I have loads of ponchos and capes cloaks in my brain ...One is totes Welsh Wool granny checked. Boom.

museumum · 29/01/2015 11:24

I love fly/rocketdog/merrell boots and don't think they're 'frumpy' - I think 'mum boots' are frumpy because they're neither one thing not another, they're not flat but not glam either. IMO if you go wholeheartedly one way or another (practical and outdoorsy, or glam) then that's not frumpy, frumpy is trying to pretend to be glam but also practical - the two are not compatible!

museumum · 29/01/2015 11:25

same with coats - a proper ski jacket if it's snowing/raining is not 'frumpy', but a 'this cagoule is pretending to be a stylish city coat' that you get from lands end or cotton traders IS frumpy.

MrsKravitzFromAcrossTheStreet · 29/01/2015 11:52

Yes I agree that some of the items mentioned aren't frumpy, they're what I would consider hipster-y and cool. Like clumpy round-toed shoes and chunky knits. But a semi-pointed mum boot with a long cowl-neck fine knit jumper and bootcut trousers, now that's frumpy. In the house I wear Peacocks jogging bottoms, waterfall cardy and old lady full slippers - mmm comfy times.

I am drawn to Cotton Traders whenever we visit a motorway service station on holiday. Last time I bought a turquoise check seersucker short-sleeved blouse that I wear with white linen trousers. I love it but I feel it's meant for a much more mature lady than I.

KissyBoo · 29/01/2015 12:04

Does anyone else think that Hush and Wrap clothing is the epitome of frumpy- comfy? Also Toast. Now that is 'feck off and leave me to my projects' stuff isn't it?

museumum · 29/01/2015 12:09

Toast is a bit like Cos but for older people isn't it?
So Cos is worn by young trendy architects while Toast is worn by middle-aged and older art teachers??? :)

Lweji · 29/01/2015 12:21

What is the big pressure to be sexy anyway?

How bout elegant?
Comfortable?
Warm? / Cool?
Beautiful?
Uplifting?
Making a statement?

I definitely wear legwarmers and thermals (but they can't be seen).
A big puffy coat sometimes.
Mum boots
Flat ridding style boots
Lots of high necks in winter
Corduroy too and woolly straight trousers
Long warm skirts

Disclaimer, I do have some sexier clothes too.

MildredDreadful · 29/01/2015 15:02

Lovely this lovely thread.

afghanda · 29/01/2015 16:54

Hush annoys me. I could not wear one single item that they sell (apart from their PJs) without looking like the most frumpy person on the planet, but I can imagine that if you are tall, skinny and endlessly leggy and young, you would look amazing.

stillwearingaredribbon · 29/01/2015 20:32

I have a pair of multi coloured conkers
Bought in Totnes several years ago. Older than DS who is 17
Sadly my bloody feet had a growth spurt in adult hood and they are too small now
Cost a small fortune even then

KissyBoo · 30/01/2015 07:25

Red ribbon- sell them on EBay. They will probably make you a fair bit back. Vintage semi- frump does well.

I would also like to slip a Dr Martens authentic wedge boot in here. They are strangely alluring in their fugliness.
