More crepey wisdom.....

Grin @ Christmas jelly belly. I have one of those too. Although I also have Christmas thunder thighs. Grin
Woke up at 6.30am this morning feeling guilty about having done nothing about my various assignments and lesson-planning. No prizes for guessing what I'm doing today. Feeling as perky as anyone else who stuck to the fizzy sugar water on NYE. However, I had spent the previous fortnight drinking far too much every day, so no room for smuggery here.
I did make a difficult phone call last night to Difficult Cousin, who sent me a particularly poisonous email that had to be Dealt With. He spent the whole of 2014 being angry with me and I just wanted to lay it to rest. As far as I can tell, we both came away from the conversation feeling happier and I'm deleting that email because I never want to be reminded that he is capable of writing that kind of ludicrous bollocks. Onwards and upwards and trying to forgive and forget.

I too have a fur coat. Although it is fur of the extremely faketastic variety and cost me about £20 from New Look, where I was buying a rather more superior one for dd. Mine is leopard print and I look like a deranged teddy in it. I wore it on Christmas Day, accessorised with a cracker party hat, to walk the dog round dm's very sedate village. I'm hoping that at worst I look like an eccentric old bat, rather than a wrinkly with delusions of sexual allure.

BD, Auriga - Day 1...

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2015 12:31

I planning to go up to Selfridges tomorrow, but that is probably too short notice?! Still, if anyone fancies meeting up in the West End tomorrow, let me know!

Well done on that phone call Stropps - good start to a positive 2015Flowers

I used to have a great black fake-fur coat with a hood. I now have a fake-fur jacket, but it's not the sameSad

Blackduck · 01/01/2015 13:47

I am currently writing my work 'to do' list as I will need to hit the ground running when I do go back so need to prioritise (and scare myself)
I had one pint of beer and two G&Ts so not feeling too bad despite DDogs trying to burrow into me at midnight.

I have built ds's new desk (dp is hopeless at such things) and tomorrow is operation 'birthday' ahead of the 3rd.

Stropps I'm with you - but may request one day's licence on 9th as dp and I are doing our birthday dinner ......

Happy New Year's Day all

BTW anyone live near Godlming and frequent the pubs there? Our lovely barman has secured himself a deputy mangers job and leaving us for pastures new....

MollyAir · 01/01/2015 14:56

Happy New Year to all Crepeys, and hope it's a better one for everyone who had a shit year in 2014 - NU, I hope your 2015 is a lot better and that you're easing yourself into it today.

Montserrat, I'm often in the cafe in Russell Square due to occasional lectures at ULU. If you and Herbs meet up there, let me know! Walks in Brock Park would also be beneficial in reducing the poundage.

BTM, Selfridges tomorrow is too soon for me, sadly. Daringly we are taking dd with us when we return ds to uni at the weekend. This means I will have to be peace-maker and diplomat in supreme quantities. Oh dear. We will take the dog, however, as he does a better job of cheering people up than I can. The idea is that dd wants to look at various unis in the run-up to the great UCAS rigmarole which begins for her next autumn. I am working on York for a visit. Wink There's Durham and Newcastle up that way, too, isn't there?

The highlight of NYE for me is that I managed to have the beginnings of a relaxed convo with dd about current contraception use amongst her peers. I will need all the crepey courage I can muster to edge forward with that one. And not while showing her round ds' uni.

NUFC69 · 01/01/2015 15:57

Sorry I haven't been back since Tuesday and thanks for everyone's kind words. I have to report, however, that we still have DCat and he is currently curled up with me. The vet thinks it's pancreatis, although she has done a blood test for cancer. He is a lot better and looks happy again.

Anyway, Happy New Year to everyone. I am currently lying in bed as I woke up with a migraine this morning (I don't have a headache with it, but my sight partially disappears). When I was still feeling woozy at lunchtime I pulled out of going to the football so I am at home by myself.

I am beginning to wonder if I am ever going to improve, although I did manage to get out with all the family yesterday for afternoon tea - DD and her family and inlaws and DS, his family and inlaws.

Molly, don't forget I live outside Newcastle so if there is anything I can do to help. .. Durham is a great place, too.

I don't have the problem with regards to overeating over the festivities - I think some of my clothes are looser, but I don't recommend it as a dietary aid. Grin

MollyAir · 01/01/2015 16:01

She is looking at Newcastle, NU, so I'll bear that in mind! Of course it's all very speculative atm, far too early. Glad to hear you're a bit better, and also DCat. Smile

hattymattie · 01/01/2015 16:12

Newcastle is fab - I went there - Durham and York also great uni's (northern girl speaking).

Rosebag · 01/01/2015 16:25

Just checking in quickly. NU so sorry you're still feeling lousy but glad that DCat seems to have one or two of his nine lives in reserve.

monty we must make a date. Boringly I'm not a drinker, so tea in an appropriate location is best although I don't mind sipping tea whilst you sip bubbly. I can get to Russell square etc also.

Happy and healthy new year to each and every one of you with great things I hope for 2015 not only for Crepeys but also DCs. Very pleasant evening yesterday with friends along the coast until they wanted to play a complicated card game involving strategy and maths. I'm a no hoper with that sort of thing. DH was in his element and I felt like a dunce. I'm upset with DH for letting me be humiliated. Sad

Had to force DD to do home work this morning...she's so behind. DS is home in London expecting friends to sleep over. We are going to see Paddington.

lalsy · 01/01/2015 16:39

Rose Sad, maths games on NYE? Confused.

Would love a Brock or other S London park meet some time soon.

NU, glad about dcat.

CointreauVersial · 01/01/2015 18:33

Back home again, after a lovely family brunch and a straightforward journey home.

Returned to an email from BF from university, with the news that his mother "passed away unexpectedly" while with the family on Christmas Day. Sad Sad I don't know details, but she was only in her early 70s and in good health.... I am trying to decide whether to phone him or email, but I get the impression that a call might be a bit intrusive at the moment, so I'm trying to compose a message. What does one say? So sad.... there will be a ghost at all future Christmases for the whole family. Sad

I am up for a Brock/ other park meet! Sat/Sun fine this weekend and all through Jan ATM!

NU glad to hear DCat is OK and that you are at least slightly better.

Rose, maths games on NYE sounds a bit full-on. We just drank, ate and danced! The older teen girls and mums, that is. Though DS joined in for a bitShock and some of the dads IIRC!

I am joining the January abstainers. I need to abstain from excess food too, but that might be pushing it a bit!

Feeling drained - screeching DD. For no good reason. And I lost it, albeit briefly and with good cause!ConfusedSad

Auriga · 01/01/2015 18:52

Just posted on wrong thread. Short version: long muddy walk today, happy dog, good fire, glad about NU's cat. And CV sorry about your friend's Mum.

wilbur · 01/01/2015 18:52

Happy New Year all! Dh and I just about managed to get to midnight, thought the fireworks were very impressive and Jools & co good too. Been pottering today, but gearing up for throwing myself back into the relentless activity whirl that is life these days. Have at least managed to have a conversation with ds1 about impending gcse choices and also finally move various plants into the greenhouse for the winter. Dh is back to work tomorrow, and ds1 is going to sleepover with a friend so it will just be me and the smaller ones, might thing about an outing of some kind - any suggestions?

motherinferior · 01/01/2015 18:52

CV, a card? Or e-card?

I must have the last glass of fizz while it's still NYDGrin.

wilbur · 01/01/2015 18:56

Sorry, crossed posts - CV that's awful Sad, your poor friend. Don't phone, but do email to say you're thinking of him and his family.

I will also join January abstainers, but not till after this weekend. And I can't abstain from food until after ds1's birthday on the 11th Grin.

bigTillyMint · 01/01/2015 19:21

CV, that's very sad. I'm sure any message saying that you're thinking of them would be appreciated.

Blackduck · 01/01/2015 20:02

CV how very sad.

Here James Bond and lots of cookery books planning dp's birthday meal - which, if the boy had his way would involve all three meals.

NUFC69 · 01/01/2015 20:49

CV, how sad for him and you. I would suggest a proper handwritten card if you have his home address. It's then something he can keep if he wants to.

I have retreated back to bed and am hoping that I will wake up refreshed and happy in the morning. DH wants to go out on his bike tomorrow - though it's blowing a gale atm so not sure if that will happen.

CointreauVersial · 01/01/2015 22:36

I've emailed friend; knowing him as I do he won't want to talk about it yet. He's someone I've stayed in touch with for years - he married another close friend from uni, and lives not far away - but we probably only see each other once a year or so. But he's one of those friends you just slot back into conversation with, as if you saw each other just the day before....

Anyway, in domestic news, I've just brewed a huge vat of turkey soup, which should keep me going for a few days weeks. The house now reeks. Confused

I am meeting a friend for a lady jog so am standing in running gear on the south circular but no show! Hopeless

Blackduck · 02/01/2015 08:56

Operations brthday present today.
Also acutely aware of impending return to work.......

bigTillyMint · 02/01/2015 09:00

Any ideas of what to get BD?

Hope your friend turned up Monty

I am on the bus with my vouchers and fingers crossed!

NUFC69 · 02/01/2015 09:27

We're just about to go to the joys of Boundary Mill as we need new curtains for the guest room. Mind you, I am not saying that I am not going to look at the fashion whilst I am there. DH has decided to forego the bike ride so he can join me. Hmm

Enjoy your shopping, BTM. I hope the errant jogger turned up, Monty?

motherinferior · 02/01/2015 09:36

I have conducted first Ladyjog of tr year and done an interview.

Blackduck · 02/01/2015 09:44

Go MI!

BTM - not a clue... Although I am toying with a hot air ballon ride (I could do this on line but that would deprive Ds of his sushi lunch....)
