Happy Birthday BDCake

Hatty, that is DD too! But better once we realised that milk sets her off (she was about 8 when we realised this!) And yes to the shuttle - haven't ferried in years, but they are sold outSad

Cremo, do you have snow? Saw it on the news!

NU, dinner sounds good. I haven't had anyone round for ages. Apart from our parties, of course!

Rudy, that is a good result. Such a horrible thing to have to deal with.

motherinferior · 14/01/2015 08:08

I'm glad things weren't too awful, Rudy.

Happy birthday BD!

To my surprise it wasn't raining when I woke up so I Ladyjogged round the park. The black dog is disturbing my sleep.Hmm

MontserratCaballe · 14/01/2015 08:11

Happy birthday, BD. Hope your day is kind and has fun as well as work FlowersCakeWine

Rudy, glad to hear DM is in good spirits. Presumably she can review her surgery options at the subsequent check ups if she changes her mind. The cheering power of retail strikes again as well.

Hideous drive into C London this morning. However, my office is quiet, I have made a list of jobs and am feeling both calm and positive. It's going to be a good day Smile

Blackduck · 14/01/2015 08:30

Rudy good to hear about Dmum.

So picture the scene - cards, a very nice olive bowl from ds and a packet of six dates from dp - admitted finest madjool dates, but dates nonetheless. I was Hmm Dp (despairing of me) said 'ds have a date'. So ds opens the packet and takes out a date and underneath there is a slip of paper........
Crepes I have six dates! Comedy, music, drama, dance, literature and a meal Grin Grin (I think this is to make up for the non-event that was my significant birthday last year Grin )

BD that is SO lovely!!! How sweet, in more ways than one. Have a really Happy Day xx Cake Wine

Stropps I can't get my head around the driving and the early starts that you're doing. You are quite remarkable, woman!!!!

Rudy maybe a 'watch and wait' approach isn't such a bad thing for your DM. Glad she's enjoying a bit of retail therapy!!!

MI jogging must be good for chasing that pesky black dog away. x

Monty Do you actually drive in to central London? Where on earth do you park?!!

Auriga sorry re car angst…and you not being well too. Thanks

Herbs Bloody tubes….next time you're on the Piccadilly platform and stranded we're only a few stops away…come and hang out Smile and then it's the 34 bus back to your end of the world!

No snow here….I am writing with ConS today and we are going to discuss this contact of mine who is prepared to arrange a full reading of the play for NO MONEY…well, actually she owes me, so I don't feel so bad. I do feel a little worried however…that she has a smidgen of a girl crush on me… Hmm Grin

Decorators ensconced in DDs room with rather bright mauve paint that she's chosen Hmm

Absolutely Shock by the discussion on Nick Ferrari (LBC) this morning…it seems everyone hates us Shock Angry Hmm

wilbur · 14/01/2015 09:01

That's odd - I posted on Monday, but it doesn't seem to be there. Hmm, possibly yet more funny business from the elderly laptop (is 6 years elderly for a laptop? It certainly behaves like it's a 103 yr old with asthma). Anyhow, it was mainly congrats to QQ's dd, a suggestion that Stropps dd look at this course as a possible, and to say v sorry that BD's ds is having trouble at school. BD - I do think Y7 boys can be particularly pack-like and unkind in their jostling for position and yes, the school should get involved as even though it may well pass and be as much about those boys' insecurity as anything else, but they need to know it is not acceptable in any way at all ever.

I am in an out of town today which is v boring and a waste of time. Got a hosp appt, just a regular thing at 10.30, and then home and then back up to Kings Cross for a show tonight. Have been madly trying to finish details for builders quote, but not sure how far I will get today as I also said I would do a few hours work. Hmm Another case of thinking 36 hrs commitment will fit into 24 hrs time.

wilbur · 14/01/2015 09:03

Blimey, where is my brain? I'm actually here to say Happy Birthday, BD! Hope you have whatever kind of fun you would like best.

Stropperella · 14/01/2015 09:25

Happy b-day, BD Grin What a lovely, thoughtful present from your dp! Have a good day and I hope there is something nice lined up for you this evening.

Good luck with squishing 1.5 days into today, wilbur.

Auriga, I'm very impressed that you are managing to carry on with work whilst feeling so grim, but wouldn't a couple of days in bed be a good plan - or is that absolutely not an option?

Rudy, glad to hear your dmum is in good spirits and I hope that is the case for a long time to come.

Sorry to hear about everyone's transport probs. I am mighty glad that I'm not driving to Surrey today as I suspect that the chances of accidents and hold-ups would have been even greater than usual this morning.

CV, I always smile at your mentions of Box Hill. I've probably told you before that my granny lived halfway up Box Hill and my parents lived in a little cottage at the foot of the hill - until they moved to Dorset when I was 4. And we spent every Christmas at GM's until I was 14.

herbaceous · 14/01/2015 09:26

Happy birthed BD! Be sure to do as little as possible today. On the work front, obv. Put your energies into the carousing.

Must get arse into gear today. Have to prepare a lesson for Friday - from scratch, involving creating a comprehension task about healthy eating - and fine tune our presentation for tomorrow. Our assignment is to create a 20-hour course (complete with scheme of work and 3,000 rationale), and tomorrow we have to do a 'tabletop presentation' to our tutor group of the course. Not entirely sure how much detail has to be gone into...

All this would be do-able if I didn't have to take DS to an appointment at the eye hospital which wipes out the entire afternoon.

Stropperella · 14/01/2015 09:31

Wilbur, thank you for the link to the course! Dd is predicted (ha, like they can really tell at this stage in Y12) AAAB for her AS exams, despite her dreadful mocks and lack of effort, so she still thinks she might be in with a chance to get on a Zoology course, but I think she needs to consider all the different options now, to save what might be a horrible come-down on results day in the summer. It appears that most people in her chem and bio groups did appallingly - apart from the ones that found the mock paper (last year's AS paper) online before the exam and memorised the mark sheet. Hmm Not sure of the point of the mocks in this case and not sure I trust the teachers' judgement.

NUFC69 · 14/01/2015 09:32

Rudy, I think that is very encouraging about your DM. May I ask how old she is? The reason for asking is that my DM and DGDad were both diagnosed within weeks of one another. DGDad lasted for years after DM and I was told that the older you are generally the slower everything is. Mind you, this was donkey's years ago so the thinking might have changed.

BD, that is so lovely - might have to borrow the idea for DH's birthday next month.

Rose, I am rather concerned about your comment that everyone hates you? Do you mean the British, your religion, or what? (I am correct in thinking that you're Jewish?). We don't get LBC here, though I suppose I could get it on line. Anyway Thanks and have a good day today. (I hope I am not speaking out of turn here?).

Stropperella · 14/01/2015 09:33

Woah, Herbs, the 20-hour course thing sounds like an assignment-and-a-half. How long does the presentation have to be?

Stropperella · 14/01/2015 09:47

Gah, just looking at the forecast for next week. Snow, ice and general wintry nastiness. And the Highways Agency is doing lots of overnight roadworks. Anyone know if they are good at reopening the roads bang on time at 6am after overnight works?

herbaceous · 14/01/2015 09:48

Presentation only has to be 10 minutes, and no PowerPoint necessary, but we need to know our onions as we shall be questioned. So I'm shoehorning in learning theories, curriculum models, etc, and hoping that no-one asks me what any of it means!

motherinferior · 14/01/2015 10:19

Cancer does grow more slowly in older people, NU, you're right (or at least I think you are).

Have bought a ticket to see my mum for lunch on Saturday. Suggested we went OUT as pre-surgery last fling. It was DP's idea and he was right (dammit).

Box Hill makes me think of Jane Austen's Emma.

beachyhead · 14/01/2015 10:25

That sounds really good, Rudy. MIL has received similar news that whatever it is in her neck and lung hasn't grown/changed since the last scan, so it's watch and wait time here too (with I think just a biopsy to confirm cancer).

Rose, please remember, the general population is not represented by people who phone LBC (or go on Jeremy Kyle or read the Daily Fail). They are the 'strange' ones and you should give NO credence to their views.

No snow here - bleeding cold though!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BD Flowers Your dh sounds wonderful and very thoughtful. Could he have a word to my dh? I'd willingly swap a pair of large warm Fat Face pyjamas for six dates...

I saw Behind the Beautiful Forevers at the National on Monday - wasn't my favourite of all time at all, although the set and staging was brilliant.

dd1 has a Tinder date tonight - with a medical student from down the road Grin She's found him on FB and they have mutual friends, so she feels safe enough. She's off to see the Stephen Hawking film. We may need to prep her....

hattymattie · 14/01/2015 10:45

Rose - We do not hate you and I cannot abide those who do. DD's best friend's family has moved to London because they feel insecure here. Very sad.Sad

Have spent at least 20 minutes in the bag shop wondering if I could justify a red Le Tanneur handbag. I don't think it will go with my dark green padded jacket. but it is lovely. I think I need to hold out for black which goes with everything.

motherinferior · 14/01/2015 10:51

Agree totally with Beachy about LBC, JK etc.

Beachy and Stropps - you may be entertained and indeed consoled to know that my sister's hopeless dog, the one who ate the anti-depressants, has recently (a) eaten a pack of Calpol Fastmelts, apparently with no ill effects (b) developed a phobia of the black square tiles in the kitchen. It's a black and white pattern. I really think that as dogs go, she takes the biscuit. Or not, of course, if it involves walking over the chequered floor.

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2015 11:23

Yes agree with Beachy about LB and bloody JKAngry

Beachy your PJ'S are sounding petty damp good as I shiver in my stupidly underdressed clothing. And go your DD! The film is great. Is Tinder a big thing with older teens then?

MI good plan with your DM and Grin at the dog - we had a lab that ate everything and never seemed to suffer any ill effects!

BD how fab of your DHSmile

herbaceous · 14/01/2015 11:34

Adding to the crepey chorus, Rose. People who spout off on Nick Ferrari or J Kyle are a self-selecting sample of lunatics. No-one with moderate or kindly views goes anywhere near it, or would be allowed on air if they did. Bad for ratings.

Really lovely day here. Hard to believe meteorological chaos is reigning elsewhere.

bigTillyMint · 14/01/2015 12:11

Well it is a beautiful sunny day Herbs, but seriously cold when you are underdressed and out getting bus/walking to meetings and then get to work and find the heating engineers are in. AgainAngry Thankfully I have a fan heater and radiator blasting at me now!

herbaceous · 14/01/2015 12:27

Yes, I can imagine it's a trifle parky. I cycled the school run this morning, and my ears suffered. I've got the sun coming into my study, which is nice and warming. I am also wearing my Wool Lovers' guernsey, which is toast-o-rama.

Rosebag · 14/01/2015 12:51

Not at all out of turn, NU. Thanks Crepeys. I was referring to some of the awful stats in this [[www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/the-new-antisemitism-majority-of-british-jews-feel-they-have-no-future-in-uk-says-new-study-9976310.html report] which was being discussed on the phone- in. I just feel sad that although I grew up not experiencing anti-Semitism, I am not sure it will be the same for my children.

hatty Thanks for your words. I'm aware of the exodus from France which is sad…but I'm not against secularism……so long as it's without prejudice or hatred, there is something to be said for it.

Excellent morning with ConS. We are going ahead with my colleague's offer of arranging a reading. We are having a major session on Monday at mine, (lots of floor space) trying to put the scenes in order with paper flying every where, I imagine.

DD's room is looking very purple…. Shock
