Pandering to the uncouth... Grin

Stockings have been opened French toast and Christmas Morning Muffins eaten and the DC are helping DH (who called the parsnips, turnipsXmas Hmm) peel the veg and DD is making stuffing ballsXmas Smile

Huge turkey (DH said he wanted a bit of leg) is in, but as it is probably 20 years since I cooked a whole turkey (and ex probably cooked it anyway) I am a bit worried that it cooks through properly before we go to the pubXmas Grin

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 11:13

Happy Christmas to all! And huge thanks for my lovely and fragrant SS.

My other presents have been heavy on elephants (I am admittedly v fond of elephants) and low on pants. I shall have to fund own lingerie purchases later in the year.GrinGrinGrin

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 11:14

BTM it's the remarks about a Nice Bit of Breast here...Confused

herbaceous · 25/12/2014 11:50

Merry Christmas my creped crusaders. Traditional terrible nights sleep in strange bed, but very gratifying Santa myth perpetuation. Helped by the space station/sleigh passing through the sky last night.

Lost DS to his requested minecraft for 30 minutes. Bit pulled him back with the playmobil castle, which has been a massive hit. Well worth all the chasing about.

Shortly to have a cooked breakfast. Then trip to late FiL's grave.

bigTillyMint · 25/12/2014 12:46

Thank you to my Secret Satan (think I guessed you!) - I will not be dieting for the foreseeable!

MI, if DH were making comments about a bit of breast, I'd be worriedXmas Grin

MontserratCaballe · 25/12/2014 13:19

Herbs, I love a well planned present which hits the spot. Worth the driving and hassle.

My lovely secret satan managed to combine my love of chocolate and gin in one handy bottle. You are a legend. Thank you. Do we need to guess the donor? My money's on MI or Mrs s but you are wonderful, whoever you are, and I am very grateful.

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 14:13

I've had slightly enough of Christmas now, I have to say. And the festivities (ha!) will roll on, with friends round tomorrow and then DP's aunt and uncle (retirement complex of the sort that makes you want to book your Dignitas ticket now) and then oldest BIL (cue presents that are sort of thought out but sort of not - much as I love thick socks, I can't wear a pair of size 7s. And DD2 definitely can't. Also he pronounces DD2's name bizarrely wrongly). And then a day off and then my parents....

Rosebag · 25/12/2014 16:15

Managing to avoid the rellies quite a lot this Xmas! dS1 arrived bang on time for lunch although I am trying not to think about how fast he drove, presumably playing 'beat the Tom Tom' all the way down. He has now departed and we are watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I had a minor melt down getting the dinner dished up as is the tradition but am now half bloody dead on the sofa. We are trying to sort out various contretemps over TV clashes tonight, but I will finish off anyone who tries to stop me watching Miranda followed by Call the Midwife. It could get messy.

The sun is now seething over West Sussex. All good, Crepeys xx

Rosebag · 25/12/2014 16:15

Seething ???? setting!

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 16:22

Rosebag, I'll be your alibi.

I have actually managed to avoid eating to the point of discomfortShock. The smallish helpings of raspberry Eton mess for pudding were definitely a good idea. And I've chucked frozen butternut squash chunks in to roast with panchphoran (Indian mix of seeds) to blend up with stock for soup later.

Tomorrow's sausage and triflefest, otoh, may finish us offGrin.

bigTillyMint · 25/12/2014 17:05

We are watching Chitty too - in between eating lunch! Had a nice relaxing drink or two in the pub with friends (lovely to see the teens playing table football/conversing at another tableXmas Wink) and managed to not drop the turkey or anything else, nor have a melt-downXmas Shock!

There is enough turkey left for about 3 weeks I think, despite us eating an enormous amount of everything each. Pudding to be served later!

MI, the soup sounds yummy. As does the triflefestXmas Envy

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 17:22

I'm hoping to pace the blow-outs...

beachyhead · 25/12/2014 17:37

Well, I'm full to bursting, have received a very welcome Secret Satan as I was sorely lacking!

We are away from home and a spectacularly bad night last, as we are sharing our room with ddog1. Belief is still strong here which is great but unusual in year 5 I think....

No telly on since we arrived, which is a bit annoying as the BBC has made such an effort......

cremolafoam · 25/12/2014 17:50

Evening lovelies , and thanks v v much for my hilarious SS! Grin
Love it love it!
Dps have toddled home as ddad was falling asleep. I think he may have polished orf a whole bottle of Sancerre on his own .
The lamb went down well as did the mushroom crumble. It seems simple is best. Smile
I am stuffed full of pavlova and sour cherries. And about to start playing with my new IPad - with which I am delighted.
Xxx to one and all

hattymattie · 25/12/2014 18:13

Well - we had lunch and then had a huge walk though Paris the Champs was full to bursting.

Now I'm digging in for Miranda and Call the Midwife with a glass of champers - I will have to tolerate Dr Who first!

addle · 25/12/2014 18:56

merry christmas crepeys! so full that as bill bryson once memorably remarked i think it's going to come bulging out under my armpits

thank you for my lovely SS - I have no idea who you are, but you clearly have a gift for lovely, cheering, quirky presents

xxx

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/12/2014 19:53

Thank you for my Secret Satan - are we guessing?? I want to know how you knew I am a Wyborowa girl...

Have elderly and senile neighbour coming in for a drink, so have made enormous loaf of bread to have with cheese, and 24 mince pies. I will need alcohol. And I should not have bothered to make mince pies as Asda's value ones are much better than mine... Xmas Angry

Tomorrow we are having Boxing Day food, which I love. Cold turkey, ham, mashed potato, salad, coleslaw and pickles. Have two huge jars of wallies (Mrs Elswood's finest) to see me through, and a jar of pickled onions. Xmas Grin

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 25/12/2014 20:15

Oof. I am stuffed to the gills.

I'm glad I set an alarm clock this morning to get the turkey into the oven on time, as the DCs didn't surface until 9.30am. Then DM and DB rolled up so early we were still brushing croissant crumbs off our chins, and most of us were still in PJs. The turkey was a triumph, anyway roasties could have been better and I've now hit that slightly tired, pickled and bilious stage in the day when only a box of liqueur chocs, a cup of tea and the Downton Christmas Special will do.

Thanks for my... err... interesting Secret Satan. Grin Grin I will model my gift at the next meet up.

Blackduck · 25/12/2014 21:05

I retired early after a lovely dinner and too much wine...
Restorative cup of tea.

motherinferior · 25/12/2014 21:20

I am going to have a fragrant Satanic Shower and retire early too. And rise again to eat a lot tomorrow...I think I will bung a lentil and spinach soup together when I'm doing lunch, so that once again we have a non-hefty supper to hand. it's frankly time I stepped up to the plate with cooking

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/12/2014 21:26

I have done nothing but cook (and neighbour has not turned up, but the bread is disappearing at a rate of knots). DH and DD1 can do tomorrow morning's fry up.

lights dimmed after emotionally draining day. Most of DP's family in tears at some point or the other during the day. Bonding over the annoying ness of SiL's new boyfriend.

MontserratCaballe · 25/12/2014 21:58

Sorry you have had a draining day, Herbs.

Knackered now. Am in bed with fizzy water and downton. Need a quiet day tomorrow I think.

herbaceous · 25/12/2014 22:32

Btw, thank you for my secret satan! I shall devour alone
