Here we go Wine

OP posts:
MollyAir · 23/11/2014 19:36

Rose, you could take a leaf out of my imaginary book and just kill her

bigTillyMint · 23/11/2014 19:37

I agree Molly. Or at least have 2 weeks October half-term in state schools.

"And DP's/DH's make themselves physically and mentally absent" SO TRUEAngry
WE are the original family from hell - DH and I say we are the Addams family!
And a lovely positive story about your DS - I think mine is pretty similar. In fact, probably many boys.

Sorry to hear you are waking at 5 worrying - me too, but not about a singing Maestro!

MollyAir · 23/11/2014 19:40

OTOH, this is a good thing to have on hand when rage descends. There is science behind it. As you do something vigorous, you're releasing stress chemicals and will thus feel better after.

MollyAir · 23/11/2014 19:43

Oh, I suppose this one would be more the thing for MrsS.

hattymattie · 23/11/2014 19:57

I agree it's a long hard slog up to Christmas with the weather getting worse and worse.

Stropps - DD2 has pronounced the science videos brilliant. The only trouble is we need AS/A level - does anybody have a link to online science tutorials at this level.

Rosebag · 23/11/2014 20:01

Somebody buy me one of Molly's Damnit Dolls!!!!
And Molly, I will…or myself, which ever is less messy…In the imaginary book of course. But I don't hold grudges or bear ill will. I just want to go quietly without all this tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth and her shrieking a rendition of "Stay with me baby…" Double feck.

ps CV I meant to say, hang on in there…let the workmen work it out themselves and you go off for a nice lunch.

herbaceous · 23/11/2014 20:17

I'm here, looking at my assignment. Admittedly, I had a long sabbatical, from about 3.30 to 7.30, in which I cooked a rather delicious fish pie, among other activities.

My assignment isn't very good, but hopefully good enough. The trouble is it's a 'pass or fail' scenario, rather than graded, so the temptation for one as lazy time-stretched as me is to do the bare minimum to scrape a pass. Only I don't know exactly what that is...

I've managed to shoehorn a reference to Bloom's taxonomy in there, which surely must be a good thing.

Stropperella · 23/11/2014 21:20

Blimey, Herbs, I'm impressed. They never bothered with any of that old bollocks interesting stuff on my PGCE back in the day.

I am disappearing underneath a mountain of paper. We have instructions to present the assignment in an A4 ring binder with dividers. There is so much guff to process. And I'm currently at the 6000 word mark with the report thingy I've written and there's still more to tick off the damn marking checklist. I think I may be developing RSI..

Hatty, yes, dd is in need of decent AS/ A level vids and can't find any yet and is now sinking into gloom because she doesn't know another way to plug the gaps. I've told her she needs to go to study groups, ask teachers and look up stuff in the library. I'm not sure the Chemistry A level is really a goer, but we'll see. We're currently stuck in an almighty shituation as regards the light-fingered 'friend', so I don't think she has done any homework this weekend and I've no time or energy to take up the issue with her.

At least when I'm awake worrying at 5am tomorrow, I'll know there's a bunch of my crepey friends probably doing the same thing. :(

BD, I send you a big hug and I hope you can manage to pace yourself to get through the next couple of weeks and somehow there will be some light at the end of the tunnel very, very soon.

I had a short, but extremely loud shouty episode this afternoon that left me with a sore throat and everyone else in the family scurrying for cover. I've not done much shouting for a month or two, so it took them rather by surprise. Lost all my brownie points in one go, though. Meh.

lalsy · 23/11/2014 22:00

BD, good luck with the next two weeks, one thing at a time I guess, and KBO Flowers (and that pattern with ds is horribly familiar).

Herbs, hurrah on getting it done! And Stropps - 6000 words and still going - who marks them?

My ds was in a right grump yesterday, overtired, snarly, been lovely today after lie on and some chocolate digestives.

CointreauVersial · 23/11/2014 22:03

Can I just say, I am hugely impressed by the workload a few of you are coping with - Strops and Herbs spring to mind. You should be very proud of yourselves (and are allowed the odd shout-a-thon or tearful download). Thanks Thanks I certainly couldn't do it.

Stropperella · 23/11/2014 22:05

Lalsy, our tutors. Some heavy duty things we gave in before half-term haven't come back yet and I have a horribly bad feeling that we will receive a suitcase full of assignments back for re-working over the Christmas hols. If so, I won't be v. pleased, especially as we have to start the new year by giving in some other, massive and v. dry assignment. Oh well. Could be worse. I could be a 2-finger typist like most of the others on the course. :)

Stropperella · 23/11/2014 22:07

CV, thank you. This weekend, I have been mainly impressing myself. Apart from the (ahem) .. outburst this afternoon.

Stropperella · 23/11/2014 22:11

And er, Monty, are you feeling better yet? Grin

herbaceous · 23/11/2014 22:24

Thanks for the props ladies. I haven't actually finished, but have a window on Wednesday to tie up the loose ends. It's 'only' 2,000 words, and is in fact quite hard to squeeze it all in.

DS asked DP today 'is merkin a real word?' MERKIN? Where on earth did he hear that?

Dear Dick, from Rudy? If he's being so familiar as to call you by your first name, how could he possibly object if you get familiar too?

Auriga · 23/11/2014 23:25

Spot on Rudy. Rise above his rudeness and focus on the issue.

BD, sorry you're feeling rubbish. Surely the awful time you're having at work must be affecting the way you feel about everything?

I don't think you really have to get on top of the homework straight away in Y7. We certainly didn't with DD. Routines are bound to change every term anyway.

DD tells me she's expecting criticism from teachers at parents' evening, to do with lack of focus, chatting, the odd late homework. I will point to everything she's achieved outside school & suggest she could do fewer GCSEs. Tonight we heard her play in a fantastic concert with the symphony orchestra & we couldn't be prouder of her if she got 10 A* s.

Stropps, you're doing great. You're still allowed the odd rant.

I have another stinking cold. But my paper has been accepted for conference in Budapest in March, so that's cheering. Haven't been there since affair with Hungarian 30 years ago but absolutely loved it then.

QueenQueenie · 23/11/2014 23:28

Wow! Well done Auriga. And isn't it lovely when you can be truly proud and delighted by their achievements? Well done to your dd too.

Rudy, how v rude! Grin

cremolafoam · 23/11/2014 23:51

Sorry
Sorry
Had a long long day with relatives today and only just back. They live 60 miles away.

Stories of the uber-wanky club tomorrow. As they say round these parts
' it was rare'
Grin

lalsy · 23/11/2014 23:56

Auriga, that's wonderful on both fronts, how lovely.

Stropps, blimey, massive workload all round.

Blackduck · 24/11/2014 05:41

Mornin' insomniac Crepeys.
Thanks for all the lovely words - it is, I know, a perfect storm of things and Dp isn't always the most sympathetic of individuals.
Herbs your merkin comment made me snort - indeed where did he hear it?!

Augira how lovely re DD.

Stropps and Herbs in awe re workloads - although I secretly think a bit of me envys the fact you have something to focus on!

Cremo we expect full gory detail.

bigTillyMint · 24/11/2014 06:49

Yes Stropps and Herbs, almost a term down and you are doing fantastically well coping with your courses. Stropps, gird yourself for Christmas corrections - seems to be de rigeur on that course. And then if they don't happen, you're sweet!

Herbs, your DS's merkin comment made me snort too - where? How?

Auriga, well done to your DDSmile

Rudy, just thinking about the thousands of emails to/from the DC's school, it is always to Mr/Mrs TillyMint, from Firstname Surname, even the ones we have got to know pretty well (due to the volume of emails)! Maybe he had a moment and forgot himself?

Yes Cremo, ALL the details!

DD's achievement yesterday was to "take out" 6 men and only get one hit all day. Paintballing, I might add!

cremolafoam · 24/11/2014 09:31

Omg it was so up itself ( posh) that when I ordered sparkling water it was 'Complimentary'
Snort
So over the top. We had a golden booth with ice buckets sunk into the tables lighted blue from underneath so the ice thrummed.
Sofas with leather and fur cushions
Ipad menus which beamed our order to the bar and was then served by waiters in Armani suits on gold trays. Dh and I sat in a corner and giggled
Our crowd was decidedly decrepit: some of the gents looked as if they were there from special branch ready to make arrests. The style was predominantly sparkly for women, usual clothes for men except without jeans( cos you wouldn't get in)Grin
That was our corner anyway. Several floral shirts were in evidence.
We were given special wristbands ( like the ones you get in hospital) to show we were important guests. Ffs it was like a Ricky Gervais sketch.
The younger crowd were strictly hipster and early 20s in designer gear and unsmiling. BtM there were at least 2 silver pencil skirts in evidence so The Crepey Skirt, it seems is bang on trend.
The music was throbby and very loud to my sensitive ears. It was IMPOSSIBLE to catch up with these friends I hadn't seen for years, which was annoying. It reminded me that about 1991 I stopped clubbing and went the path of dive bars and dark jazz clubs and that this had never been my scene.
Dh ( an old rocker) had never seen the like and sat with Shock on his face all evening.
The waitresses were dressed in some kind of black origami kimono with 6.5 inch heels( manolos I suspect) and had to totter on these all night. I did feel for them.Grin
We were roped off, in the style if VIPs and had our own staff.
It was absolutely hysterical.
I was so glad to get home and sip tea and sit down.
Do you remember that clubs were always sweaty and hot?
No more Crepeys; They have air-conditioning. Shock
GrinGrinGrin

Rosebag · 24/11/2014 11:26

Oh cremo I am laughing at your evening watching the uber wankers. Talking to DS1, it sounds fairly standard stuff for clubs these days. And you know what? We had more fun. I really think we did. Grin Well done you for enduring. A friend of mine within the Crepey age group is planning to leave his well paid, high end accountancy job and become a retro 70's DJ for the rest of his working life, doing private parties etc. That's my kinda night.

Great news about The Crepey Student Body assignment progress. Fab, Herbs and Stropps

Rudy I generally put "Dear Mr Dickbrain" and sign off "Rosie Bag" but make sure my footer with my qualifications and role titles are underneath. (I delete these for social emails, when I remember…)

Tilly Do you think DD has the makings of a territorial army captain? Grin Well done her…

I have just had a lovely breakfast with a friend in Carluccios. It's a lovely crisp, sunny day which has lifted the mood, temporarily at least. I am now going for an afternoon of writing with ConS in the pub Hmm Grin I believe he's buying today…Is it too early for a nice G&T? The pub is walking distance….

MollyAir · 24/11/2014 12:50

Haha Rose, I have an email footer which I adopted precisely for the purpose of getting schools to take me seriously.
