Here we are again.....

We're just heading up there....

I can't do 12th, can do the others!

Crepey Christmas! How marvellous. I'm free on 5th or 12th, at the moment.

Monty - from this week I shall be at the IoE on Thursdays! So a cup of tea would be delightful. It would either have to be at lunchtime (1 til 2), or after 3.30, but I'd only be able to stay for a little bit as would have to dash back for DS.

Have considerable hangover after last night. Necked a lot of wine in a short space of time, while gossiping and awaiting curry delivery. Now preparing five-hour roast pork. Yummo.

Friendships not all that complex, though I do often find myself in awkward situations. There's just one member of the NCT group who sees herself as Queen Bee, and for this reason is less popular, but is also super-sensitive to any perceived slight. Thus the very worst person to drive past you when you're out with others of the group.

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2014 11:51

NU, I was at Hillsborough, but not at that match IYSWIM. The language I can deal with, but I wasn't so keen on till-rolls and coins whizzing past me onto the pitch. This was in the mid-eighties, at the height of football hooliganism, it's probably better now.

Can't do 12th, but 5th or 13th are OK. Can't cut and paste on the app, I'm afraid.....

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2014 12:59

Right, I think we should make it the 5th as all who have replied so far can do the 5th. Does that make sense?

My re-found courage re: socialising seems to be catching: last night, dd invited 2 of her oldest friends (they've all known each other since preschool) round for pizza etc. She hasn't had them round for about 3 years - and this must have been only the second time at most that she organised the catering etc herself. Apart from the fact that I wanted an early night and they were blardy loud and didn't leave until too late, but hey. She has gone off to her first day at work today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will have gone ok, but would not be surprised if she comes home in a tizz because of having made various new-girl errors.

I was quite amused yesterday evening when dd and her friends were eating pizza in the next-door room and listening to Radio 2 Hmm and I saw the status update on FB from one of the pizza-eating friends. One of those "Yay, having a fab time doing yadda-yadda with X and X" posts, but the spin that had been put on what they were doing was hilarious. Just goes to show you shouldn't believe all you read on the net. Grin

Dec 5th is always a weird day for me, as it's the anniversary of h1 despatching himself. It will be 10 years this year. I always like to be around in case dd has a wobble, but so far she never has. I think it's only me that notices, tbh.

Stropperella · 02/11/2014 13:32

Have now heard from dd that it all went well at work. Phew.
Sorry about editing in that previous post. Doesn't hang together terribly well because I deleted something and didn't add in some other thing. Oh well.

MollyAir · 02/11/2014 14:00

Hugs, Stropps. Poor you, re 5 Dec. Glad dd's work is going well.

Thinking of you and your DM, MI. It won't be easy.

Such a good organiser, BTM! Thank you so much for doing this. Thanks

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2014 14:09

Stropperella that's all fab about you and DD - so great that things are really turning round. Obviously 5th Dec stuff not so good. If you need to get away at the last minute, you're always very welcomeSmile

Molly, it's only a bit of cut and pasting!

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/11/2014 14:10

The problem with Christmas is that if I don't have my mother, she will be on her own... her one remaining brother won't have her ("No fucking way!") and she has fallen out with the friend she goes on holiday with, and with whom she has gone to a hotel in the past. (Just catching up on thread...)

Auriga, surgery went OK, thank you. Think it is healing OK, looks fine, not terribly attractive as he has pulled the stitches too tight (again) and my boob is a bit pleated now. Just have the horrible waiting time now, while they do the biopsy.

Stropps - some unmumsnetty hugs from me too, re 5th December.

cremolafoam · 02/11/2014 15:07

I am all for Secret Santa By Post- just sayinGrin
Sunny Sunday here today. I have walked a little down the lane and back again , just to get some colour in my cheeks. And now am attempting the Everest of Ironing.
How can two people generate such washing. I despair.Confused

CointreauVersial · 02/11/2014 15:38

Just read this definition on a website and it made me chuckle:

The days between Christmas and New Year  â?? Bizarre state of purgatory during which we rehearse for old age by shambling round the house asking each other what day it is. Grin

So true....

lalsy · 02/11/2014 15:47

CV Grin. And whether we've had our tea yet.

hattymattie · 02/11/2014 16:11

Stropps - awful anniversary on 5th December. Glad DD's day went well. As usual can't come to meet up but can do Secret Santa.

MrsSchadenfreude · 02/11/2014 16:34

There should be a word for the days between Christmas and New Year.

Where you eat nothing but cold turkey, ham, gala pie and mince pies, interspersed with the odd satsuma. And play Monopoly, watch Morecambe and Wise on telly, and go for the odd walk - the reality of which is shuffling to Tesco to get some more milk or a paper.

bigTillyMint · 02/11/2014 17:15

SS by post fine by me too! Who is organising that? Sounds like a spreadsheet jobWink

CV, that's why we go away for a couple of days at "Twixmas" (there is a word, MrsS!) - just trying to sort it now with BFF!

Twixmas is my busiest week of the year work wise . I am back in at 8am on Boxing Day for the pantomime and pretty much every day until 1st Jan when everything goes mysteriously quiet.Grin
Dh and I usually get a few days away at the end of January, but have nothing booked. I'd be quite keen to go back to Copenhagen.

News! I have been invited to a big mad posh 50th Birthday bash in a ShocknightclubShock. SandB EMERGENCY!!! Biscuit

motherinferior · 02/11/2014 18:45

I have survived parental visit. My mum is exhausted and is also being annoyingly martyred and squabbling with my dad.

I actually meant I couldn't do 5th as was meant to be meeting my old Pilates crowd but in all honesty I would rather see you lot.

lalsy · 02/11/2014 19:57

Stropps, Flowers, awful.

MI, well done for getting through.

Crem, I'd be frozen with terror [helpful].

Just been to see Mr Turner. It is very long
