Was it this one novice ?

It's on my AW wishlist on Pin and I might have linked it ages ago.

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 08:59

Oh that's it! Do you think it would be too long for me? Though you're not that much taller than me are you?

Armani do one too that i was looking at.

QueenCardigan · 10/10/2014 09:44

gah, having thought I'd fixed the c+p issues they're now playing up again. New blouse is on pin.

LinusDKD · 10/10/2014 10:51

Not much taller novice, I am only 5'4". I don't think it would be too long as you can adapt the way you drape/twist the scarf.

I wish I could see it IRL as I am very tempted but at that price it has to be perfect.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 11:13

That scarf looks gorgeous. I am after a plain grey cashmere one too and there is a nice one at Cos.

Today's outfit = fashion victim (DP absolutely hated it) - navy hobbs culottes, cropped grey-blue jumper, black knee high block heel boots, and new Michael Kors navy cape.

The esprit tops look great for you QueenC, sorry not sure which one on your pinboard you were talking about!

I am seriously freaking out about wedding dresses. It's really getting me down. Thinking about starting a new thread so I can vent a bit! I know it's utterly pathetic but I just feel so panicky whenever I think about it. The big day is 6 months tomorrow and I just feel like I'm running out of time as I have no idea what I'm doing.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 11:29

Ugh I just read that back and I'm being such a drama llama. Ignore me, I just have PMT!

LinusDKD · 10/10/2014 11:43

Hey blair don't worry about sounding like a Drama Llama!

It is perfectly normal to feel stressed about choosing a wedding dress and all other wedding related things

Can you maybe take a couple of days off i.e. No trying on of dresses, not looking online at dresses, not talking about dresses to your friends and family, ...

OP posts:
BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 12:21

Thanks linus I will try to do that next week. My wedding is 6 months tomorrow, and I really only have tomorrow and next Saturday to try on any more dresses, as I'm going on holiday and will be away the following 2 Saturdays. Then I think it will be getting a bit late after that. :(

libertychick · 10/10/2014 12:29

Poor you Blair. But think positively! You have a fan figure so can fit easily into samples etc so whatever u buy will need min adjusting. You have already found one dress you really liked so that is there as an option. Try and think of the trying on now as fun - is it possible to improve on what you have already tried.

LOVE your outfit today. My DH would hate something like that too. But hey who dresses for men??? They have no fashion sense (huge generalisation). :)

libertychick · 10/10/2014 12:30

That was fab figure not fan!

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 12:34

Blair you're allowed to be a drama llama about your dress - when you try on 50 dresses like me then you're a proper llama!Grin

Don't stress. What do you know so far you like? Eg shape length simple blingy? Let's start with a narrowing down.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 13:58

Thanks liberty and novice. Yes I have only tried on 11 dresses so far Grin

I think there are 2 problems, aside from feeling that I'm running out of time:

  1. I think I want an evening dress not a wedding dress, these aren't very common in ivory!
  2. The pronovias dress I liked cost nearly as much as my engagement ring, and I can't bring myself to spend that much on something I'll wear once, compared to something I wear all the time. My mum won't give me a budget either, despite tutting when I spend £££ on a handbag for instance, which is making me more stressed. Poor me! Hmm Grin

So what I think I want is:

  • floor length but preferably no train or a very short train (hence evening dress not wedding dress)
  • sleeves (anything from cap sleeve to long sleeve)
  • illusion neckline, so the sleeves would be sheer or lacy
  • sheath/slim shape
  • MUST be embellished (the plain ones looked very "flat" on me).
  • preferably boat neck but round would be ok, I don't like V neck or sweetheart.

Basically QueenC got it spot on with the delicate Elie Saab red carpet dresses!

I don't want anyone to feel as though they need to start looking for me though, as I have literally looked everywhere. All the main bridal sites, the entire website of each designer that's come up in a google or pinterest search, every department store I could think of, and shopstyle/polyvore for evening gowns.

I mean, my pinterest board has 125 dress pictures on it...

I think Linus is right and I need a break.

MarshaBrady · 10/10/2014 14:11

Blair I'm in town and can't post much other than to say you've got your style absolutely spot on. Delicate, neckline etc. Will have a look at board when home. Hang in there, we're with you on this, you'll look amazing in the right dress.

santamarianovella · 10/10/2014 14:21

Hello all, I have no time to catch up, I'm visiting my mum< im at hospital atm> as shes had surgery this morning, nothing serious, and she is doing ok now, but she was going to go a head with it without even saying a word to me , only found out through my aunt who called me last nightAngry! Typical parents behaviour, was really furious.

I have no time to do any catching up, but wanted to say

novice you are my hero, I read the AIBU thread, and I agree with everything you said.

andshop I can't wait for an update tomorrow! Shame mumsnet will be off most of Saturday,

santamarianovella · 10/10/2014 14:33

Oh,blair i just saw your post, in my opinion the Florence temeperly dress, is the one , its so delicate and sweet, just like you, I couldn't see you in anything else, maybe a couple of the rosa Clara dresses, but this style is totally you,

shopafrolic · 10/10/2014 14:38

I know Santa do they not realise you all need updating on what season I am!???! My parents do that all the time about hiding ill health and operations - glad she is ok.
Blair please don't panic. You're not being silly. It is a really difficult purchase with a lot of nonsense pressure attached to it. You really know what suits you. Have a breather. My friend got a dress 2 months before the big day so don't worry too much about harsh deadlines.

Feedback on NEXT pleather leggings. IMO don't bother. The pair I tried were faulty (hook and eye coming off and a singed hole in them) They are quite thin fabric, not very forgiving VPL wise. Not sure why everyone has been raving. I made them look cheap. They got returned immediately.

OneLittleLady · 10/10/2014 15:14

aibu thread??? what is it about?

blairdont panic i am certain you will find the perfect dress Thanks

LinusDKD · 10/10/2014 15:16

Oh santa my DM is like that! She's had a biopsy of a lump in her breast in the past and only mentioned it ages later to DSis and me!

Thankfully everything was ok but we were very upset she didn't tell us. She just said she didn't want to bother us and worry us. Hmm

What AIBU thread are you talking about btw?

OP posts:
BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 15:56

santa I'm glad your mum is ok! I would be mad too.

Thanks Marsha santa shop and One you have all made me feel better. I do love the shape of the Temperley dress, but I didn't look good in that much lace when I tried dresses last weekend. I do think long sleeves are just gorgeous though. But maybe I'm not tall enough to pull off something that elegant?

shop you are definitely right about the nonsense pressure. Naively, I thought I wouldn't succumb to it! I thought I would apply my usual shopping technique of doing lots of fun browsing and then finding a bargain version of something I liked. Nope!

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 16:27

Glad you're breeeeeathing now Blair. Right i am waiting to get back to bed (cleaner is in there) then will have a leisurely look at your pin board. If you love the dress that QueenC linked have you thought about having a dressmaker make it for you? Sorry your mother is messing you about though. Parents are always going to tut about the cost of things so just set a budget of what you think is reasonable and if it's above her limit say you will pay the difference. You have plenty of time, breeeathe.

Santa, poor you, parents are so annoying when they play games. Thanks

2.5 days in my sick bed means I have wondered off s&b into aibu.Grin

Linus, thank you I am pondering on the scarf.

libertychick · 10/10/2014 16:54

Hope your Mum recovers well santa. I can trade my mum with you or Linus if you would like the opposite problem - aum who keeps me constantly updated on every little detail of her health!!

So all I can say is thank all the available deities it's Friday and I don't have to talk to anyone I work with for 2 whole days. This week has been pants.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 16:55

novice that's just it, my mum won't give me a limit, I have said things like "but what if the perfect dress is £6k?" and she just says "pfff, it's only money, it doesn't matter." It's me that wants to restrict the budget! But she doesn't spend money on nice things for herself, and made my sister feel bad about buying that £165 massimo dutti coat at the weekend. ("it's awfully expensive")
I love her to bits but mixed messages or what!

I'm open to the idea of a dressmaker, but have no idea how I would go about finding/choosing one. Or whether I still have time to have a dress made. Or how much it might cost (and I'm afraid that if I went down that road and found out it was going to cost loads anyway, I would have wasted my time)

God I think I need to give myself a slap!

libertychick · 10/10/2014 17:20

Oh I would hate not having a budget Blair
Could you tell your Mum that not having a limit is making it more stressful?

Thanks for the feedback on the pleather leggings shop. They are off the 'maybe' list now.

So I have a MNV question....

Apart from wedding dresses :) what do you find hard to buy? For me its 'naice' tops. I have t shirts, shirts etc but struggle with tops for some reason. It's the wardrobe gap that causes most angst for me ( alas poor me!!!)

MarshaBrady · 10/10/2014 17:33

I have to catch up.

But Liberty I would also say nice tops! I have none. I also really need skirts, but find them too expensive for what they are, for some reason. And they are always over-embellished or overly designed and I just want something simple. But nice. Not black though.

santamarianovella · 10/10/2014 17:34

Thanks all, what concerns me is that my mum is diabetic, so surgeries are really risky for her, liberty my mum was Shock to see me,she was all groggy from anaesthesia, and the first thing she said to me " did you tell your father? I don't want your father to see me like this", my father is way till sunday, so going for surgery with out telling me or my dad is beyond unreasonable!

aibu thread,

Novice I was gonna say something, but then I chickened out!, and I really agree with you, some think that anyone making anything from £100k -£1m pa, are mumsneting from their private yacht, that made me Grin btw,, 1m pa might be a fortune in other parts but in London its not a fortune, specially central. Its still a great deal of money and can offer you great lifestyle but nothing overly excessive, I think the majority are out of touch just how expensive London is, and moving out is not an option for some.
