JEANS JEANS JEANS Liberty did you get that? Grin .....but I'm a Paige convert, Shop stop it you naughty enabler, I'll do Paige sale after Xmas myst be good, must be good, I'm on a fashion diet

MN off all Saturday Shock WHY?

Blair you WILL find it! you really will. Have a break. Chat to your DM. My parents wanted to pay for mine. I arranged with the dress maker that I would give her some cash a bonus and she would tell my DM the price was minus what I'd contributed. They still don't know.

Out for drinks with work colleagues tonight, this could be dangerous Grin

Novice AIBU? Shock you're brave/Ill Grin

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 18:00

OMG! She didn't tell your dad?!!ShockShockShock

DryGrin you know me....quite happy to tell people to do one so aibu holds no fear!

Blair, right lovely. This is what I would do......The average dress costs £1,400. Decide your budget and how much you can afford to contribute. Eg if it's £1600 that you can afford then set your budget at £3k. ask your mum for it, if she faints pass her the smelling salts get £1400 from her and pay the other £1600.

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 18:14

Yes my point on that thread was that over £100k pa is shed loads of money compared to 95% of the country so whining about being squeezed because you can't afford a luxury lifestyle of a millionaire is a bit off. Otoh the perception that £100kpa or even £1m pa of household income buys you the luxury lifestyle of a Russian oligarch is also a bit off.Grin

Anyway back to fashion...!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 18:14

I'm seeing her tomorrow so I'll try and talk to her. I just want to keep it as low as possible (I think Amber will get me on this). I have found a sparkly dress that looks like it could be lovely (or at least for the price) in Debenhams here so am going to try and track it down tomorrow. Also going to look in Coast.

But... maybe I am being unreasonable? Grin I mean surely a lot of people do spend around the same on their engagement ring and dress? It just seems wrong to me personally.

I keep thinking about the pronovias dress but I'm not sure if that's just because it was the one everyone gushed over.

Karbea · 10/10/2014 18:21

blair you could always go back and try it on, on your own. That way you'll see it in the cold light of day without all the emotion.
novice I totally agree with what yo,u were saying. Mind you I always freak out when I read articles in the papers after a budget or something where there's mr and mrs average who earn £20k a year and do this and that, whereas our household income is much more but we always seem skint hides another handbag in the wardrobe

Karbea · 10/10/2014 18:23

Also you don't necessarily have to keep the dress, my friend sold hers after the big day and with the money got a Cartier watch that she'd enjoy everyday.

shopafrolic · 10/10/2014 18:30

Day dresses or skirts Liberty - awful - I have no idea what works on me

Drywhiteplease · 10/10/2014 18:32

Tonight I'm wearing:
naice new top in plum lovely thick crepe.
boots in stone
Jimmies snore
Stone leather biker jacket, Gucci Disco my baby and this and necklace pretending I have this stuff Grin
prosecco in bagWink

Obv not in the Disco!

Drywhiteplease · 10/10/2014 18:36

And for novice ....Chan Lu gold nugget wrap bracelet in brown and gold and diamond bangle most treasured item, sentimental, on everyday

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 18:38

liberty it's going out tops for me too! I don't own a single one, even though I love skirts.

Karbea yes I might do that. And I would definitely sell it, but I think I'd feel guilty not giving the money back to my mum, even though she would probably say she didn't need it. Also I have no idea how much I might get back so I wouldn't want to rely on that iyswim?

Didn't read the AIBU thread too much of a time sink but totally agree, of course how far your money goes depends on so many things. Until you reach multimillionaire levels, then you're probably ok in any part of the country!

Karbea · 10/10/2014 18:40

I'm slobbing tonight on the sofa, so tired from working. I'm wearing wait for it...
A black h&m t-shirt, a grey sweatshirt, white White Company pj bottoms and a cream knitted Ralph Lauren throw ;)

BrandyAlexander · 10/10/2014 18:43

KarbeaGrin

Blair, right I have just googled average cost of engagement ring and average cost of wedding dress and they're the same. £1500 for the ring and £1300 for the dress.

I spent less on the dress than dh spent on the ring as it might have been a very short marriage once dh found out!!!

santamarianovella · 10/10/2014 18:48

It's skirts for me, don't know how to make them work , so dresses are a better option for day, and even for night I go with dresses. looking back at my purchases, the last time I bought a skirt was Vanessa Bruno wool one, last aw!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 18:51

I googled that too! It made me feel better. I also found an article about wedding budget guilt that has cheered me up. Specifically this:
"There are only two occasions in your life when all of your loved gather in one place to celebrate you - and you're only alive for one of them."

We bought my ring together (and DP will get a watch for the wedding), so I am conscious of how much it was when putting everything in context. But I think I definitely have dress budget guilt, and I need to get over it because I am fine with how much our venue/photographer is costing and also hiring a fairy light canopy Blush I love fashion so why is buying an amazing dress the hardest thing to accept?

Karbea · 10/10/2014 18:55

What's a fairy light canopy?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 10/10/2014 19:01

Kind of like this but it has 6 "arms" instead of being the whole ceiling. I was looking for images of the venue on pinterest before I went back there and could take photos, found a picture with the drapes and lights, and just knew I wanted it Blush

Karbea · 10/10/2014 19:09

Aww very magical!

libertychick · 10/10/2014 19:10

Santa I am shocked at your Mum. What if something had happened in surgery?? I would be furious too. Does your Dad know now?

Funny so many of you find skirts hard. I love them and have loads - with no tops to go with them :)

LinusDKD · 10/10/2014 19:50

Wow santa that is something else! I think even my DM wouldn't do that but only because DF is a dr and his colleagues would tell him if DM was in hospital

blair there is no law that says you need to spend ££££ on your wedding dress. Just go with whatever you feel happy with.

dry have fun! Again, I am so Envy of your social life.

Blair I would second trying the dress on again either alone! or with just one friend. I did that. Took the time to listen to my inner voice as to whether I loved it, and then showed my mother. It cost £1200, and I sold it soon after and bought a bench
Don't settle for second best, but keep it in perspective too. That said, I wore a pair of knickers that cost £100 and shoes that could have bought me a small second hand car so what do i know!?

shopafrolic · 10/10/2014 20:35

Now, who wants a text tomorrow once HoC have left? Grin

libertychick · 10/10/2014 20:36

Meeeeeeeeeee

Topazandpearl · 10/10/2014 20:36

OneLittleLady · 10/10/2014 20:38
