Trying on knickers - is this a thing you do?

So waiting to try some bras on today and noticed the lady in front had some teeny tiny g strings to try on.

Is this normal? It made me feel slightly ill that a g string I may purchase had been tried on by someone else - now I know why my mother always told me to wash clothes before wearing Wink

Nope, never!

VerucaInTheNutRoom · 26/09/2014 18:13

Also: YUK.

PetulaGordino · 26/09/2014 18:14

i hope she tried them on over the knickers she had on

i haven't ever tried on knickers before buying though. bikini bottoms, yes, but i would put them on over knickers

Staywithme · 26/09/2014 18:15

Surprised she was allowed to take them into the changing room. Boak. I once bought a packet of knickers to find that one pair had Envy obviously been worn! WTF!

ireallydontlikemonday · 26/09/2014 18:16

Gross. It would never occur to me that you could try on knickers. Swimwear yes, knickers no.

Graciescotland · 26/09/2014 18:18

I try on knickers as I like full bum coverage, always on top of my own knickers though.

StrangeGlue · 26/09/2014 18:19

Nope! You guess your size, buy them and the ones which don't fit live forever more in the pants drawer cause they're new so can't be chucked. Thems the rules!

Fingers crossed they were over knickers. There's something extra grim about trying on a g-string

it is odd

there's even less fabric not to fit iyswim, you're not checking for buttock coverage

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/09/2014 18:20

Years ago I worked in Knickerbox and people often do, I suppose if you are buying a set that is to be seen it makes sense, but it's not something I do.

hugoagogo · 26/09/2014 18:22

I use the same method as strangeglue
Gobsmacked at trying on knicks in the shop!ConfusedShock

MrsCampbellBlack · 26/09/2014 18:45

I'm glad it wasn't me who thought it was odd. And seriously they were proper g strings so would have been hard to try on over knickers.

Eh??? Who would do that?? Awful. I'm buying sealed packs in future!

temporaryusername · 26/09/2014 19:02

Fairly grim. Trying on over knickers is allowed in most shops, but G strings Confused. What's the point, they're not meant to fit, are they?

I always wash knickers before wearing unless in a multipack, or at least, I do now.

picnicbasketcase · 26/09/2014 19:04

Most places would make people leave them in baskets wouldn't they? Don't they have those plastic tags with how many items you've taken in? Maybe I just shop in really common places. In fact I definitely do.

pinkfrocks · 26/09/2014 19:05

Yes. In John Lewis. Posh ones. But always over my own bikini knickers- quite full coverage- and a quick on and off . Didn't buy but wouldn't have paid £25 for knickers that might not fit.
Not really any different to trying on a swimsuit or bikini .

You can also return packs of knickers to Marks and Sparks, as I have done.

SinglePringle · 26/09/2014 19:05

Hmmm. Am torn. Ordinary ones, nope.

But I've some seriously slutty expensive ones from places like Myla, Agent Provocateur and La Perla and I've tried those on. If I'm spending £50+ I want them to do the job!

But always over the knickers I've got on.

dexter73 · 26/09/2014 19:32

That is grim! I always wash new clothes before wearing them anyway as I don't like the feel or smell of them when they are new.

BecauseIsaidS0 · 26/09/2014 21:01

Like SinglePringle, posh ones I try on, over my granny pants.

Flipflops7 · 26/09/2014 21:59

Ewwww!

Allinafankle · 27/09/2014 08:44

Whenever I've had a bra fitting in a Bravissimo they've always asked me if I want to try the matching bottoms. Always said no!

OneLittleLady · 27/09/2014 08:46

I would try them on, ONLY over my own bottoms, never on bare skin. It's utterly gross to thing people try them on bare skin

Kittykat7 · 27/09/2014 11:46

If I'm thinking of buying matching set. I always pick up the bottoms so I have my size incase when I come out & someone has taken my size if I like the bra. I never try on the knickers though & always say to the assistant I have just taken the matching bottoms but am just trying in the bra.
Maybe the person was doing what I do when going in the changing room.

Kittykat7 · 27/09/2014 11:51

Sorry just read your OP & see she just had g strings to try on & no mention of a bra. Did she have any other garments as might have been trying them on & was just going to purchase the g strings after?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/09/2014 12:59

Eww no it's not the thing to do... The dirty scanc.
