Trying on knickers - is this a thing you do?

So waiting to try some bras on today and noticed the lady in front had some teeny tiny g strings to try on.

Is this normal? It made me feel slightly ill that a g string I may purchase had been tried on by someone else - now I know why my mother always told me to wash clothes before wearing

I only do this for pricey knickers though, things like my sloggi knickers I buy online anyway

However, now remember being behind an old lady at Primark who was trying to return some knickers 'they've been hardly worn...'
Surely, you know your size and just buy that size...???
