Knee high boots. Hideous or not?

It's been years since I've worn a pair - probably several decades ago when I was 20.

Anyway, I've been mainly wearing skinnies lately and suddenly thought ... Hmmm.

I saw a pair in sainsburys of all places. Very plain, black, all leather and currently 40 quid taking into account their current promotion. Tried them on as was wearing black skinny jeans and thought they looked quite nice. Quality was surprising - easily as good as ones over double the price

But I'm torn. I hate the look of the knee high boot with a skirt and I hate them when they are in any colour but black.

I usually wear either acne pistol boots in black or some very scuffed mint velvet short boots so these would be quite the departure.

Would you wear knee highs?

well don't wear them with a skirt and don't wear any other colour except black.

sorted.

FelicityFoxton · 24/09/2014 11:08

Oh you've killed the thread before it's got going pink Grin

I'm too old and fat for knee highs, but I love calf length tan or blab boots and skinniest in winter. Very easy to dress up or down and massively more comfortable than shoes.
£40 if the fit and you already have nice black trousers is a steal.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/09/2014 11:17

Sorry I'm typing with my phone on the base station, charger Blush

leedy · 24/09/2014 11:22

I'd go for them if they look good with your jeans, especially if they're only 40 quid. I like knee high boots for Winter as they keep my legs warm (though I do sometimes wear them with mini skirts and thick tights....).

You have also reminded me to unearth my Pistols from the wardrobe.

FelicityFoxton · 24/09/2014 11:24

They're very good quality IMO . I compare all boots to my pistols which are decent and these definitely hold their own.

Hmmm I'm not particularly fat - a size 10/12 with ok ish legs. But I'm over 40 so unsure if I can get away with it

Naaah! Knee highs look too much of a faff. I havent owned a pair, but I always imagine them to be really uncomfortable around the knees. I may be completely wrong.

I have my eye on some soft leather ankle boots, so maybe I am biased. Grin

They're not particularly uncomfortable, unless you're thinking of ones that actually go over your knees?

FelicityFoxton · 24/09/2014 11:37

They're comfy to wear but wouldn't be if you had larger than average calves I shouldn't think

hellsbellsmelons · 24/09/2014 11:42

I have about 3 pairs of knee high boots and I wear them with skirts Shock
And I'm the wrong side if mid 40's!!!

pinkfrocks · 24/09/2014 11:47

My knee highs are worn with above the knee skirts or above the knee wool dresses/ tunics with tick woolly tights.
I am very old but have good legs.

They're not for me....I'd feel like puss in boots.

marymcb · 24/09/2014 16:07

I haven't owned a pair of knee high boots in years but have started eyeing up these Spanish Riding Boots, was thinking of wearing them with mini skirts and thick tights....

squoosh · 24/09/2014 16:29

The only knee high boots that really bug me are the sloaney black suede ones.

Love knee high boots, black or brown with skirts or dresses. Don't care what anyone else thinks. Nur nur!

SwedishEdith · 24/09/2014 17:38

Are you talking about over the knee boots? I can't see why anyone would agonise about normal knee high boots so I assume you must be Confused

dippydora69 · 24/09/2014 17:45

Am I missing something?
I've been wearing knee high boots (normal, not over the knee) every winter for the last 10 years!
(alternating sometimes with ankle boots)
I wear them (knee highs) with skirts, dresses, trousers, skinnies, leggings and tunic tops.
I think they look great.

Overthe knee boots could look a bit trying too hard to be fashionable - over a certain age.
But, normal height knee highs are ok.
(don't understand what your problem is OP)

FelicityFoxton · 24/09/2014 17:54

Well it's not an actual problem, Dippy - more sparking a discussion. They definitely make me a little wary because I associate them with looking a little frumpy I suppose - although this could be because I'm short.

And they don't look great on bulkier legs do they?

I'm swaying towards giving them a go

Excluding longer boots from your repertoire is leaving a bit missing.

I like all boots, including long ones.

BUT I can't find ones that come up high enough. 'Knee length' never actually is.

( actually I don't like ALL boots.. Over the knee ones are a bit erm..)
