Knee high boots. Hideous or not?

It's been years since I've worn a pair - probably several decades ago when I was 20.

Anyway, I've been mainly wearing skinnies lately and suddenly thought ... Hmmm.

I saw a pair in sainsburys of all places. Very plain, black, all leather and currently 40 quid taking into account their current promotion. Tried them on as was wearing black skinny jeans and thought they looked quite nice. Quality was surprising - easily as good as ones over double the price

But I'm torn. I hate the look of the knee high boot with a skirt and I hate them when they are in any colour but black.

I love slim-fitting knee boots, but they're harder to find now than they used to be. I'm totally over riding boots, enough already.

I'm not convinced by the ankle boot craze, they look fine if you're very tall, and if you're very young they look funky dresses, but generally they can look very frumpy.

Ankle boots and skirts is not a look that suits most women. And it's very 1982.

I'm with twinklestein. Ankle boots draw a line across your legs ...and this with a skirt takes inches off you legs..it makes people look stumpy ! Foul look..will be out a fashion soon and will only come back when stonecladdog does..or shoulder pads and curly perms..

darkness · 25/09/2014 20:11

Stone cladding...slaps curly permed mullet in frustration

Kiffykaffycoffee · 25/09/2014 22:02

I love knee high boots! I have several pairs and wear them mainly with dresses or skirts and woolly tights. I don't think they really go with trousers and I know what you mean about the Robin Hood look. I think they smarten up dresses that might have looked frumpy with shoes. I am 50 by the way.

Omg!!! Just googled acne pistols! £350 and they DO look a lot like mum boots. Ok not 100% mum boot but close enough. And seriously??? 350 quid for an ankle boot?!?

Apatite1 · 25/09/2014 22:24

I'm too short for ankle boots. I need the illusion of longer legs, not shorter!

Acne pistols are mum boots par excellence.

FelicityFoxton · 26/09/2014 07:26

They're lovely boots - honest. And they look classy and nothing like something from M & S. They also last forever.

But I suppose it's like those folk who balk at spending more than a fiver on a handbag ... They'll feel the same about pricey boots

I've just Googled the Acne Pistols too. I saw something v similar in M&S yesterday. They're nice. I'd pay the M&S price but I wouldn't pay £350 for them.

Knee boots are my winter staple, with dresses for the office. In fact, I didn't have any shoes for winter last year...

I think they are quite flattering (I have long legs) and am not too bothered about the fashion viewpoint. There are only so many variations of boot out there (ankle, calf, knee, thigh and waders Grin) and I think knee boots will be around for many years to come.

noddyholder · 26/09/2014 12:18

I love knee boots I wear them all the time and have done for years. I do have ankle boots as well but don't think they look as good. I wear with skinnies black or grey and also like with full skirts

noddyholder · 26/09/2014 12:22

www1.pictures.stylebistro.com/bg/Kate+Moss+Boots+Knee+High+Boots+eTwTF0Vgipyl.jpg worn like this look great. There are lots of flat ones in the shops atm which I like but think a slight heel is more flattering unless you are very tall.

buggerthebotox · 26/09/2014 16:40

Oh, I dunno, noddy...I think her legs look a bit stuffed into the boots. I like to see a bit of room around the top. Like the red, though. I think I'll do that to mine! A cheap Louboutin look..

ChippyMinton · 26/09/2014 16:54

I wore my knee length black suede heeled boots last night as I am a rock chick.

The ankle boot craze passed me by!

ChippyMinton · 26/09/2014 16:55

I'd say avoid a gap at the top unless you want to look like a farmer or a pirate. Snug is the way to go.

momb · 26/09/2014 16:59

My DH has this 'Mmmmm, long skirt and boots' thing, probably a hangover from our youths in the 80s! Thus I do wear knee highs with a calf length skirt in the winter. Far too fat for skinny jeans so my opinion of no use to you whatever!

noddyholder · 26/09/2014 17:03

I think she looks great

buggerthebotox · 26/09/2014 17:39

I think she looks great too. Loving the polo neck, but I think the boots are a bit high up the leg. I'd get a knee muffin top in those.

noddyholder · 26/09/2014 17:52

You do need skinny legs and v tight jeans I think.
