What are the things that you never buy?

Mine are.....

Scarves: They seem too grown up to me and a bit Mummy Uniform.

Blouses: No matter what the style or shape I end up looking like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.

Lip gloss: Hate the stuff. Wear lip colour every day but never gloss. Bleurgh.

Handbags: I love how they look and drool over the fancy bag threads on here but irl I have one giant one from Primark that is about 6 years old and one 'going out' bag. It never occurs to me to buy more.

Anything black and white: For some unknown and completely irrational reason I hate clothing that is black and white . The colour combo just looks horrible to me.

Cords - I hate the texture, it genuinely makes me feel sick

Blouses also - not my look

Actual trousers - i.e not jeans (with the exception of workwear, but I never wear them for casual)

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 24/09/2014 09:24

Hair serum - just turns my barnet into a greasy mess

Hair straighteners - why would anyone want flat hair?

Maxi dresses/skirts - why?!

Jewelry - just never think to buy it, and every time it try some on I always think I look better without, not a jewelry person at all.

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 24/09/2014 09:26

I do not actually own any trousers aside from jeans - skirts and dresses always for work! I hate my bum and thighs even though I am reasonably slim - can never get the right fit!

StoneTheFlamingCrows · 24/09/2014 09:28

Also never wear skirts or heels as daytime weekend wear.

Also never buy sleeveless tops. Ever.

Handbags - just not really interested in them. DH bought me a lovely bag for Christmas last year and I use that every day.

Shoes - again, just not that interested.

Scarves - I only wear them outside as I find them too annoying to wear all day.

Coats - too expensive to have too many!

Black - I have no black clothes but like grey and navy.

BunnyLebowski · 24/09/2014 09:34

MrsWolowitz I've just bought a teeth whitening kit from EBay because of that! I wear lipstick every day and now that it's Autumn I'm breaking out my dark and vampy lippies. Want my teeth looking extra good.

YY to the trousers thing. The last trousers I were that weren't jeans were horrible shiny polyester black ones for a waitressing job.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 24/09/2014 09:35

Brown or navy, think it's a hang up from wearing those colours at school.

Scarves- just not something I've ever worn

Gilets- shout 'country mum' to me

BunnyLebowski · 24/09/2014 09:36

dexter I have a few LBDs but no other black clothing.

Wasted too much of my twenties wearing black and trying to be invisible. Now I dress to be seen Grin .

I've got another one!

Perfume - I have one bottle and use it every day. It is replaced when it runs out but I never buy the same perfume. There are far too many lovely smells out there to stick to the same one.

santamarianovella · 24/09/2014 09:43

Nail varnish, actually I can't remember the last time I had a mani/Pad.just clip and buff them myself,

Lipsticks/blush/ eyeshadows, rarely buy any,

Expensive skincare, nope, pharmacy brands all the way for me.

lurkingfromhome · 24/09/2014 10:01

Bags, yes. I have one lovely black bag that DH bought me a few birthdays ago and that gets carted everywhere with me. I long to have a few more in different colours but whenever I've had a new bag I have not remembered to take stuff out of one and transfer it to another and take that out instead.

Hand cream and body lotion. Get given vats of both at Christmas and never use it. And yet I am obsessed with skincare.

Shirts -don't own a single one (have a weird aversion to things with collars and buttons). I have some silky v-neck blouse affairs but no actual shirts.

dinkystinky · 24/09/2014 10:02

cardigans - serious can not be doing with them

chanie44 · 24/09/2014 10:13

scarves - I'm petite but broad shouldered so scarves must be functional (to keep warm) not for accessorising.

Babyliss Big Hair - I wouldn't be able to get out of the door if it as any bigger.

Boden - nothing wrong with Boden, but it isn't 'me'.

foxdongle · 24/09/2014 10:30

trousers- especially my pet hate linen trousers
suits/office wear
anything combat, boyfriend, nautical
waterfall cardis
nothing baggy, I like things that fit not drown me.
Anything brown, mustard, burnt orange, bright pink, beige.
A line or below knee length or billowy skirts
Not many patterns especially not big flowers

Good job I'm not buying much this year

FrancesFarmer · 24/09/2014 10:34

Heels - I just can't get used to them - they make me feel awkward.

Fancy underwear - great in theory but there isn't a good selection where I live and my bra size fluctuates, to make things even more complicated.

Sports gear - I just use old t-shirts and leggings I have since I was last pregnant.

Body lotion - I hardly ever use it so if I get a set with shower gel and body lotion, the shower gel will get used quickly but the lotion will be decorating my shelves for years to come.

Naicecuppatea · 24/09/2014 10:38

Jewelry.
Matching coat, bag and shoes - why would you want to!
Fancy matching underwear. I go for comfort rather than lace.
Tunics.
Scarves - I got sucked into buying a couple and they just fester at the bottom of my wardrobe because they make me feel claustrophobic.
Babyliss big hair and straighteners

pootlebug · 24/09/2014 11:05

Animal prints - leopard etc. My Mum always inferred they were 'common' and I couldn't bring myself to wear them even now.

Complicated skincare routines - I'm allergic to nearly everything, so have to be really basic / minimal in what I do

Trousers that aren't jeans

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 24/09/2014 11:46

Nail polish - is literally a once or twice a year thing for me, just cannot be arsed the rest of the time.

Gilets - don't get them, if it's cold enough for a down-filled or fluffy bodywarmer it is surely cold enough for a coat? I want my arms to be warm!

ANY variety of shiny pointy pinchy horrible shoes - I will never understand the appeal of footwear that is anything other than comfortable. I also don't find them attractive or desirable aesthetically. However, am a sucker for soft, beautiful leather boots as long as they are chunky and low-heeled or flat.

Turquoiseblue · 24/09/2014 12:50

Faddy expensive skincare (latest serums etc) - my skin doesn't handle it.

Lipsticks -forgot to apply them after I leave the house so no point Grin

Track suits ..

Tunics

Leggings

Capri trousers

Trousers in general

Blingy / chunky accessories

Structured/ formal dresses

nipersvest · 24/09/2014 12:53

make up/cosmetics.

closest i have is a bar of simple soap and a pot of blue nivea. haven't worn make up for a long time.

leedy · 24/09/2014 13:18

Hmm, let's see: (most) heels (my feet hate them), nail varnish (never bother), lip gloss (too goopy), hair products.

kaykayblue · 24/09/2014 13:35

Heels I'm already tall, and can't understand why anyone would want to strap things to their feet which make it impossible to leg it should the situation arise. Also: cracks in pavements are the perfect size for heels to stick in.

Cords - Hate it. Hate the texture and hate the look. There's something about cord that automatically makes you look two sizes bigger than you are.

leggings - I just don't like them.

fluo fluorescent colours make my eyes bleed. I can't fathom why someone would want to dress like a glo stick.

expensive handbags - good quality bags are great, but spending a fuckton of money on a handbag has just always smacked of pretension in my view.

Nail varnish - I bite my nails, so never paint them.

granny pants - I can understand having one or two pairs for that time of the month, but otherwise...I'm not saying leopard print thongs are the alternative, but there's a huge middle ground between being an utter frump and selling your wares on the docks.

Lip gloss - yep. It's just sticky and even if the expensive ones aren't slimy, they still come off quickly and just feel a bit odd.

0898 · 24/09/2014 13:40

any tops or shirts with a collar. Love the crisp-white-shirt-and-jeans look on other people but I just look manly in it.

BunnyLebowski · 24/09/2014 13:40

I'm knicking leggings from your list kaykay.

Horrible things. I wear dresses every day and have yet to resort to leggings. Longer dresses + bare legs in Summer and tights in the Winter.

Interesting that two of you hate cord so much. I don't own anything cord but DP has some nice navy slim fit ones.
