What are the things that you never buy?

Mine are.....

Scarves: They seem too grown up to me and a bit Mummy Uniform.

Blouses: No matter what the style or shape I end up looking like Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie.

Lip gloss: Hate the stuff. Wear lip colour every day but never gloss. Bleurgh.

Handbags: I love how they look and drool over the fancy bag threads on here but irl I have one giant one from Primark that is about 6 years old and one 'going out' bag. It never occurs to me to buy more.

Anything black and white: For some unknown and completely irrational reason I hate clothing that is black and white . The colour combo just looks horrible to me.

Scarves, striped tops, jeans that are anything but skinny, handbags-i don't like carrying around bags and use a cross body. Tunics-they look hideous.
Tops with long sleeves-theres no point, they're always too short. The colour white- I don't trust it! Leggings, i'd rather go out naked!
Loads of lotions and potions, i have sensitive skin and used the plainest stuff I can find.

MaryWestmacott · 24/09/2014 21:15

shirts - I want to wear shirts, I just never find ones that look good on me. I think it's because I'm short and the fit always seem wrong, and the 'petite' ones always look a bit frumpy.

nicelyneurotic · 25/09/2014 08:20

Scarves - hate the way they look. Hate the way they feel

Lipgloss - gets stuck in my hair

Flat shoes - make me look boring and short

Second the mock layered stuff. Just looks cheap to me

vitaminC · 25/09/2014 09:51

Jeans: I occasionally buy myself a pair, trying to convince myself they'd be comfy and practical, but the truth is I hate jeans. I hate the way they feel and I hate the way they look on me. On the odd occasion I leave the house wearing them I inevitably regret it and spend the rest of the day trying to make myself invisible!

Capri pants: I'm tall with a long hourglass body, wide hips, short legs and size 8 feet. Cropped trousers of any desciption make me look like Mr Potatohead Grin

Blouses/Shirts: I have broad shoulders, massive boobs and a tiny waist, so shirts do not fit at all. And anything blousier either makes me look like my mother or a drag queen.

Trainers: I own 3 pairs of trainers, 1 for the gym (indoor pair), 1 for running (outdoor pair) and 1 old pair for decorating, DIY etc. I would never wear them as shoes for everyday wear, even though I know everyone else does. It just feels wrong.

Casual wear in general: I just don't feel comfortable dressed down. It's not me. The most casual I can seem to do is replacing my usual pencil skirt with a denim one...

Statement necklaces: I would feel extremely self-conscious wearing something bright and chunky around my neck like that. They seem too loud and garish, I really don't get the appeal. I tend to wear gold or silver jewellery in summer and scarves the rest of the year.

Gosh, reading back through all that I sound like a real catch, don't I? Confused

Anything pink, beige or brown.
I haven't worn a skirt or dress for decades it boggles my mind that people would really.Confused
Gillets- also confused what is the point?
Heels- they look frumpy to me, probably because my DM always wore them and so uncomfortable.

High heels
Fake tan
Body lotion

GinnelsandWhippets · 27/09/2014 15:42

Bravissimo. Every time I've been there I've dropped £££ on a bunch of bras which look amazing but after an hour are so uncomfortable I want to rip them off and burn them. I've never been fitted in a bra there that hasn't left me covered in red weals and chafing. I know the back has to be tight for support but it doesn't need to cut off circulation around your ribcage!

Thumbwitch · 27/09/2014 16:26

I never buy:

Hair "product" - I have Aveda shampoo and conditioner, but any of the other stuff, wax, gel, curly (crispy) hair, serum, smoother, whatever - no.
Self tanning stuff. I'd look oranger than Peter Andre.
Lacy underwear - I'm allergic to lace.
Underwired bras - had one, bloody hurt like a bastard, never again.
Stilettoes - I have weak ankles and can't walk in anything narrower than 1.5cm width, and no higher than 3" without throwing my hips out.
Shower gel/body lotion/creams and unguents/moisturiser - CBA. Don't need it.
Mini skirts. When i was young I had rugby player knees, so hid them; and now I'm too old.
Clothes that require you to have a waist smaller than hips to look good. I used to have an ironing board shape, now I have more of a bulge around the middle, either way, they don't hang right.
Fake fur or pleather. I did have a fake fur swing coat some years ago, but as it got older, it started to look really naff and I've never done it again.
Clutch bags, or those daft ones with all the buckles on. Or in fact any handbag that doesn't have a shoulder strap.
Earrings for pierced ears - I don't have pierced ears Grin

I very rarely buy:
Make up - I only wear it when I'm going out in the evening, almost never during the day.

Greengardenpixie · 27/09/2014 17:08

lipstick..never done it.
High heels..just not me.
Pointy shoes...never. If i buy a pair that is remotely tapered at the front i hate looking down at my feet. They are not me.
Scarves..i love them but they annoy me.
Sheer tights euuurgh...they itch my legs.
Animal prints...i am the same, was always thought of as 'cheap' when i was growing up.

Apatite1 · 27/09/2014 17:12

Ripped jeans on anyone older than 18. Err, you don't look cool, and no you're not a teenager any more!!
