Here you go Crepesters...

I'm pleased to report that the family got on really well without me this time. Dd spent all of yesterday doing forensic archaeology demos with folk from Bournemouth University at the school family science open day. Ds said she was "Brilliant" - high praise from him. And she actually helped dh paint the loft this afternoon Shock. Ds passed his taekwondo grading this morning with a distinction and got 100% for his theory test. And all the animals survived too. I only had to do a bit of remote management. And I got lots of lovely homework done on the train. Hallelujah!
Shame the house is still in a state of chaos, but you can't have everything. Grin Dh has now disappeared to band practice and I am trying to clean the bits of the carpet that I can see, before having a very early night.

lalsy · 12/10/2014 19:51

Stropps that is fantastic, you must have a lovely warm glow. I have a comical image of the other sort of demo...What do we want? More forensic archaeology! When do we want it? NOW!.

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2014 20:01

That's great Stropps!

I think we will all be having an early night here - everyone seems tired and it's going to be a busy week - DD has 3 different sixth forms to visit and DS has an extra training session as he was "scouted" at his match today...

MollyAir · 12/10/2014 20:58

Blimey, BTM - scouted??? Are we going to be impressed?

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2014 21:00

I was worried about those chickens, Stropps, but glad all survived your absence, including the dog. Grin

bigTillyMint · 12/10/2014 21:12

Grin I very much doubt it - he will probably do the six weeks of Wednesdays and then that'll be it! It happens a LOT when boys play at the level he plays at and very, very few get into a big club. He knows that - there's no flies on my DSWink, but he's all happy about it tonight!

lalsy · 12/10/2014 22:23

BTM, well done your ds - sounds like he'll get the most out of it and enjoy it whatever happens. And good luck with the sixth form visits.

CointreauVersial · 13/10/2014 00:10

Belatedly checking in to say thanks ladies for a lovely evening (and extra thanks to Crem for organising). As usual, there were one or two of you I somehow failed to chat to - Strops, it was your turn to "escape" this time. Wink And Molly - not sure we got past hello....

My journey home was slightly more eventful than it should have been; I was engrossed in my magazine and looked up just as we were pulling out of Clapham Junction...doh....had to dive out at the next station, kill twenty minutes, then back to CJ, missed the connection....ended up with DH having to drive a few miles to come and get me. No drunks or eaters of porn magazines, though. That kind of behaviour stays in Cambridgeshire. Wink

Not a lot has been achieved today, apart from a trolley dash in Hobbycraft, as DD1 is refurbing her bedroom decor. Cath Kidston-esque florals and bunting is where it's at, apparently.

BTM - well done to DS, and I'm glad to hear that he is realistic about what being scouted entails. My DS had his "moment" when he was about eight, and took it really badly when (inevitably) he was told "thanks but no thanks" a few weeks later. He was just a bit too young to understand, whereas now he'd get quite a lot out of it.

MollyAir · 13/10/2014 00:37

I know, CV, I was a bit burnt out by the time you came over to sit our end of the table - it had got to that time when my energy was really flagging and I was struggling to pull words out of my head. I'm sure we'll spend more time chatting next time. Likewise Rudy and QQ!

Sorry you missed CJunction - what a bummer. So easily done.

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2014 07:12

Yes CV, DS has also had it before. And that was a London Premiership Team, this is only a Championship League Team! He knows he isn't likely to be the next Terry/Ferdinand!

Shame you missed your stop. Did your DH believe it was because you were reading your magazine?!

motherinferior · 13/10/2014 08:24

Thank you all for an absolutely lovely evening.

It's quite funny how a bunch of people I physically see only occasionally has now become such a "hey how ARE you" group in RL too.

I can offer a cheery welcome chez moi if anyone's visiting Goldsmith's.

Blackduck · 13/10/2014 08:57

Absolutely no chance of ds being scouted ;)

He does, however, want to go and play bowls! (I kid you not - how old is this child.....)

Here it was a curry lunch and a very early night!

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2014 09:13

BD, we had a curry supper!

We are good for uni's in central London!

DD is visiting a sixthform this morning...

MontserratCaballe · 13/10/2014 11:01

So sorry to miss you all on Saturday. DH spent yesterday in bed, leaving me to coordinate the punters and their activities. I have rewarded myself with a ladyjog this morning in the rain. I am slow but getting a bit better.

Unis - none round here. But I work near Russell Sq if anyone is going to SOAS or indeed Birkbeck and fancies a cup of tea.

NUFC69 · 13/10/2014 12:04

I am suffering with my right knee this morning and am seriously considering going for a replacement (something I swore I wouldn't do). I thought about MI yesterday when I read an article by India Knight in the Sunday Times - she and her doctor are opposed to jogging because of the damage it causes to joints. I am pretty sure my problems are because of jogging and badminton. Sad I am being woken by the pain when I move atm - it's got another week to get better or the Gp beckons.

I am very impressed to hear about DSs being scouted - they must be good even if not up to professional standards in the end. I am a great believer in getting young people into something, whatever it is.

Enjoy your course, Stropps, and MrsS, DDil asked for the recipe yesterday for the marzipan cake which I "borrowed" from you. I was quite chuffed. Smile

CointreauVersial · 13/10/2014 13:28

Ooh, NU, I didn't see the IK article (and I'm sure I read the paper on Sunday, albeit blearily). My knees creak audibly, but I'm not convinced it's caused by my twice-weekly sedate ladyjogs. Just old age.

And let's face it, having done pretty much no exercise for 43 of my 47 years I could hardly claim my joints have been "over-used". Grin

Blackduck · 13/10/2014 13:30

Oh MC - convo with ds yesterday made me think he may well head to SOAS in the future (but who knows - he's only 11 so everything could change...)

Rosebag · 13/10/2014 13:33

I'm good for coffee and hospitality for Uni's north of the river or Herts (or indeed Sussex, at times…). Sounds like exciting news for DS. Tilly even if it doesn't lead to celebrity status!! Stropps that sounds great re the family happily fending for itself. Long may it continue!
Clearly CV was the drunken lout we have all been trying to avoid on the trains… Grin Poor you CV for travel angst. My journey home was remarkably uneventful…probably because I managed to avoid both the Piccadilly and Northern lines. Hope to meet Monty in person before too long…sorry you got lumbered.
NU that sounds ouchy. Pain killers and the orthopods, I think?

Productive morning with ConScript…another 2 scenes written. And a totally embarrassing incident where we had to move tables (we were working in a local caff) owing to being assailed by a large group of mothers with toddlers at the next table. We couldn't hear ourselves think…so, politely and discretely we moved. Of course, it was one of my past classes, wasn't it. As they so pointedly reminded me. It must have looked SO intolerant and rude...Blush

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2014 13:40

NU, sorry to hear that. I hate running outside - walking is the way to go!

herbaceous · 13/10/2014 13:58

Monty - I go to the IoE every week. So we could do 'tea'!

MontserratCaballe · 13/10/2014 14:14

Herbs, I would love tea. Wed and Thurs best for me - next week any good? Or after half term. We can compare small boy stories. How is DS getting along? Apart from the influx of the Lord, it sounds good. Has he made any little pals yet?

Rose, I think sometimes when you are in the toddler phase you forget that not everyone finds the noise and mess charming. I am sure you didn't look rude, just busy and concentrating hard on what you needed to do Smile.

Sorry about the knees, NU. Drugs and rest if possible are the way forward. I have bumped into IK on holiday for the last two years (she goes to St Ives too) which has excited me disproportionately. I lost shedloads of weight doing her diet (basically low carb with a few twiddles) and kept most of it off, plus I love her writing. The Thrift book is a great book for craft fiends. I wanted to go up to her and thank her for the diet book but it seemed inappropriate in a restaurant somehow.

MontserratCaballe · 13/10/2014 14:17

Posted too soon, sorry.

Good news on the talent scouting, too. DS must be seriously talented.

Right, must put the shopping away and the washing on the hot horse before I pick up kids for a dentist appointment. The dentist (one of my ladyjogging pals) was telling me about the treatment poor DD2 will need on her hypoplastic tooth. Poor kid. I hope she isn't going to freak out.....

cremolafoam · 13/10/2014 16:40

Oh NU I'm v sorry about your knee, that must be horrendous having the prospect of more surgery . Believe me I know.
Still in London waiting for the bus to airport. Why oh why do people have form a scramble instead of a queue. It's so uncivilised . It's the survival of the fittest , and as we know I'm not in brilliant shape. Too much squishing going on in this city. And the bloody rain( obviously noones fault) has made my hair Frizzy. I look like I've spent the weekend on a lonesome Scottish Island rather than the big smoke.
Ooh here we go - bus here!Confused

herbaceous · 13/10/2014 17:28

Monty - at the moment I'm only at the IoE on Mondays, but from November will be there Thursdays too. No doubt tearing my hair out in panic, if today's lecture is anything to go by!

I ordered that raincoat, btw. I can always send it back if it's too 'steamy'.

bigTillyMint · 13/10/2014 17:32

Lol at seriously talented - that's the boys who are scouted by the Premiership teams and who stay there till they play as adultsGrin
He's a good centre backSmile
