What to wear on my feet with cigarette pants?

I've got a pair of these which I always wear when I need to be smart and in the warmer weather I wear them with smart flipflops/sandals or flattish pumps (would love to do heels but can't walk in them!) but what do I do when it gets colder? None of the footwear options I have seem to work.

I was wondering about black brogues but don't want to look like Max Wall although I don't have very big feet. Or maybe a slimmer fitting boot of some kind?

Agree with the poster on another thread who said footwear completely dictates the rest of the outfit - I end up wearing clothes that don't really work for what I want just to accommodate the sort of shoes I need to wear.

Brogues would look lovely. There are some very clunky ones around, which I stay clear of. Maybe consider a lighter colour of brogue, there are some lovely greys around. Or you could wear with ankle boots. They don't need to be high, chelsea
type boot, or wedge boots or could you manage a chunky heel?

SinglePringle · 06/09/2014 07:29

I wear heels or loafers. And I intend to get some great socks (Argyll or Paul Smith probably) to wear with them come the cooler weather.

lordnoobson · 06/09/2014 07:30

For work ?
Depending on your age etc a Mary Jane heel looks good or a heeled loafer for a kind of geeky think. Next have sons nice black patent ones in that are entirely perfect for work apart from they are plastic Angry

"Some"

Bunbaker · 06/09/2014 07:34

I'm watching this with interest. I love cigarette pants, but haven't bought any because of the what to wear on my feet dilemma. I work in an air conditioned office and my feet feel the cold very easily, so it has to be something I can wear socks with - or even the dreaded pop socks.

tethersend · 06/09/2014 07:36

Ash boots Wink

lordnoobson · 06/09/2014 07:36

Oh hold on. The next ones aren't plastic. I wonder if these are they. They looked way nicer in store and shinier. These look clumpy

Tbh though the cold ankles thing is an annual issue
I have heeled ankle shoes boots things I've linked to before on here. Last years marks. And foot glove fgs Brb

Bunbaker · 06/09/2014 07:44

Ooh. I have some boots that look like these. Would they go with cigarette pants?

lordnoobson · 06/09/2014 07:49

Not for me tbh. I wear mine more formally. Obv depends on your look

Hammerandnails · 06/09/2014 08:01

SinglePringle, could you pls link to the socks?

CambridgeBlue · 06/09/2014 08:06

To clarify I work from home so my look is pretty casual most of the time but I have to go out now and again for meetings with clients, these usually involve public transport and some walking so I need something fairly practical. I'm 41 and work in a creative job so don't need to be office smart, just appropriate for a work environment.

I think the issue is the slimness of cigarette pants, anything too chunky on the feet looks wrong and socks really don't go - I know the sock debate happens here every year but they really are a pita!

I have an aversion to loafers although they are everywhere so perhaps I should try them again. Got some lovely brogues last year but they're brown, think black or grey would be better.

I really need to take my trousers shopping and try some different styles I think, it's hard to tell what will work otherwise.

If you don't want brogues loafers or heels... Er..,

SinglePringle · 06/09/2014 08:18

these kind of socks with loafers. Sort of posh / smart rockabilly or slightly 1970's ska kid!

SinglePringle · 06/09/2014 08:19

Socks do go IF you make the socks a feature, they are slightly chunky and full all the gap between show and trouser with a slight amount of bunching.

lordnoobson · 06/09/2014 08:20

Those are comedy socks , surely. And yahoo?!

CambridgeBlue · 06/09/2014 08:21

Love the idea of bold socks and brogues :)

At £20-odd a pair, their ain't nothing comedy about Paul Smith socks.

And I'm linking (as requested) via a phone. So sorry if the link doesn't meet your expectations.

Hammerandnails · 06/09/2014 13:30

Thank you Single for linking. I agree you've really got to go for a full on sock! Not sure I could carry the look off, so may just admire from afar!

angeltulips · 06/09/2014 15:48

I wear a low heel or a pointed flat or ballet pump.

Also wear the sheer sockette pantyhose things (yes I know they're disgusting but you can't see them when on and they are so much warmer.

Also wear slim fitting boots (bought these www.matchesfashion.com/mobile/product/157336 at outrageous expense as they fit my orthotics but don't make my feet look like boats) or ankle boots.

SuperWifeANDMum · 06/09/2014 16:03

I wear heels (high heeled pump) or loafers (Tods driving shoes).

I suppose at a push brogues will go but can you not try a heel? Cigarette trousers look their best when paired with a heel or a loafer. Boots are too chunky to look chic.

MarshaBrady · 06/09/2014 16:05

I wear ballet flats or heels. Boots do look odd.

SirChenjin · 06/09/2014 16:12

Ballet pumps or pointy heels with very sheer tights or knee highs. Not brogues or loafers - makes me look like a child clown at my fantastically tall 5 foot 1.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/09/2014 16:14

Yikes at the idea of snazzy socks.

There was a thread on this really recently. I linked to these which look nice with cigarette trews and the aforementioned pop socks. Otherwise I wear popsocks again and these heels, and sometimes I wear socks plus heeled ankle boots.

Bunbaker · 06/09/2014 16:17

Can you actually walk in the second pair of shoes? Shock
