What to wear on my feet with cigarette pants?

I've got a pair of these which I always wear when I need to be smart and in the warmer weather I wear them with smart flipflops/sandals or flattish pumps (would love to do heels but can't walk in them!) but what do I do when it gets colder? None of the footwear options I have seem to work.

I was wondering about black brogues but don't want to look like Max Wall although I don't have very big feet. Or maybe a slimmer fitting boot of some kind?

Agree with the poster on another thread who said footwear completely dictates the rest of the outfit - I end up wearing clothes that don't really work for what I want just to accommodate the sort of shoes I need to wear.

Ah this is England. I was thinking Charity Dingle? Style icon?

GeorginaWorsley · 07/09/2014 09:44

I too ponder this question!
I have list 2 stones this year and love the look if slim cigarette or 7/8 trousers.
wearing with sandals or converse at moment but need to find some pointy flats or slipper shoes soon.
Don't think boots will work for me,I don't like the gap between trouser and boot and if the Trousers ankle length they sit awkwardly on the boot .
I think I will have to buy pop socks in skin colour for first time since 1987.

Alsoflamingo · 07/09/2014 09:49

Are nude pop sox the kiss of death? Discuss….. Or is that another thread. Can't decide whether it is time to reclaim them or whether they remain UNACCEPTABLE.

Fedupnagging · 07/09/2014 09:50

I wear kitten heels from Dune with cigarette pants or these which I have in a couple of colours.

Pop socks are a necessary evil but lace ones like these look so much nicer. JL or TS had loads last winter but couldn't find any to link.

Bunbaker · 07/09/2014 10:04

Those invisible shoe socks won't be much use in cold weather. It will be pop socks for me.

GeorginaWorsley · 07/09/2014 10:06

I have a few pairs of the Marks courts that were discussed at length on here last year, plus some gorgeous Clarkson Kendra black snakeskin courts that I think Lord may have?Wink
all great for evening but am wanting daytime alternative, before it gets too cold!

noddyholder · 07/09/2014 10:08

Loafers look nice as do heels in teh evening.www.stories.com/gb/New_in/All_new_in/Waxed_Leather_Loafers/591727-7979735.1 these are great with slim trousers and skirts too

Bunbaker · 07/09/2014 10:09

That link doesn't work

noddyholder · 07/09/2014 10:13

www.stories.com/gb/Shoes/Ankle_boots/Stretch_Panel_Leather_Boots/638252-6118702.1 also these I have ordered the snake ones to try as look quite soft

Bunbaker · 07/09/2014 10:15

That's better. I had to laugh at the hideous shoes on the bottom left in the "you may also like" section. Really!

If I like the first shoes I am unlikely to like those monstrosities.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2014 10:24

Don't like those Next 'heeled' lace up boots at all, sorry. I think that flat black boots/brogues steer black trousers too much into policewoman territory tbh. They need something more delicate invho.

I have leopard print ballet shoes, which I think look nice. I can't do those slipper shaped ones - they make my feet look huge compared to my skinny ankles. Not sure how.

noddyholder · 07/09/2014 11:18

I love the flat slipper type I think they look quite 'new' iykwim but my feet are teeny although mate wears and still look nice.

lordnoobson · 07/09/2014 11:28

Oh lor. I'll have to look at mine carefully

minkah · 07/09/2014 11:34

Chelsea boots.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/09/2014 11:38

My feet are small too, Noddy (3 and a half) but those shoes just don't work on me. It's weird, because normal ballet shoes are fine. I think it's something about the top bits being nearer to my ankles and therefore drawing more attention to them.

For people who can do them, These Clarks ones are a v good price, and quite nice irl.

noddyholder · 07/09/2014 11:52

Same size as me! I don't think they are a look that has any longevity anyway they are a fashion thing I like them but wouldn't be bothered if they didn't suit me.

ThisBitchIsResting · 07/09/2014 12:21

I wanted black brogues that have a brown / wooden type sole to avoid the policeman look, these Dune ones are great but oos now, I got them at the end of last winter. Dune good for brogues though annoyingly don't do half sizes.

Twinklestein · 07/09/2014 12:38

Oo I like these

I wear lots of cigarette pants & you used to be able to buy quite easily slim fit stretch suede or material ankle boots to wear with them. Peter Kaiser still do them but I find they are cut too wide for me.

Many of the current ankle boots are too wide to fit underneath narrow trouser legs: some intentionally as you're meant to wear them outside skinny jeans, but some of them are intended to go under the trouser leg. Last year I got some lace up ankle boots & they work well. Example

Twinklestein · 07/09/2014 12:50

Better value version here

(Zalando has a good selection).

CambridgeBlue · 07/09/2014 12:52

Oh God I hadn't thought about looking like a policewoman - this thread is definitely opening my eyes to the pitfalls of wearing a certain style of trousers!

I was in 2 minds about the lace up boots too, think I like them because they remind me of what I used to wear at art college but the late 80s/early 90s look is possibly best avoided second time round :)

angeltulips. How wide are the ankles on those boots, they look good but I'm worried they might be wide around the bottom of the shin. Also are you v slim of thigh to avoid looking dumpy with cigarette pants & flat boots? I have some Tods Brogues which I wear with invisible socks with one pair (the sock ends below the upper) but I have some new trousers which have a slightly different look... Thanks

CambridgeBlue · 07/09/2014 12:55

I have got some low heeled leopard print shoes that look great with these trousers and also some spiky stilettoes but they're not very practical for work or for the dreaded cold ankle situation. Definitely think they are the style of shoe you ideally want though.

OP posts:
Twinklestein · 07/09/2014 12:57

I felt the same because I wore them in the 80s, and I was worried about looking like a baker boy. But actually it just looks like you're wearing brogues (mine are brogue boots) but they're warmer.

QOD · 07/09/2014 13:02

How can I be 45 and have never heard that name? I've googled and recognise the style and a gazillion pairs come up for sale with that name ...
