How long do you think Space NK can go on for?

I've just been to a smaller branch and I didn't find them very helpful at all. I needed a foundation until I could get to John Lewis in a couple of weeks. I went in on my way home from nights so looking ancient and knackered there were four assistants in there talking not one came to help me. There was nothing in that shop that couldn't be bought anywhere else. When someone finally came to me I asked for a foundation not the most expensive one as it was only a stop gap. Next minute she was thrusting Eve Lom into my hand as if she hadn't heard a word I'd said. I sad sorry but I don't want to spend more than thirty so she begrudgingly got me a nars one and put it on the back of my hand, didn't even try it on my fac. I asked for it to be put on my face but for all the effort she put into it I needn't have bothered. I knew it was my colour anyway so I just bought it. I honestly don't know how the shop survives there's hardly anything in it, far too many staff that are badly trained and it's so expensive. Am I the only one!?

no, they have ignored me so many times in Bristol and Cheltenham that I've stopped going in.The sad thing is they will ignore a person in their 50's with plenty of money to spend and fawn over teenagers who don't buy anything ( when they are not talking to each other , which is the main obstacle to service.) I'm surprised they are still there too.

What! That's outrageous service. I (30 something year old) get loads of attention at my local one in London, I have to fight them off.

The store in Nottingham is just as bad. I've been in three time and every time I've been ignored as the staff talk between themselves, the store was always empty so it wouldn't have taken much.

Chanel counter in John Lewis on the other hand, has lovely staff.

I've never been because I'd heard they were a bit 'keen' and in your face when you want in. Maybe different stores act differently?

Both scenarios are a pain [sigh]

Maybe it's an age thing? I wouldn't mind I had a £250 frock stuffed in my work bag. I looked a state it's true but anyone would see it as a challenge! Yy to Chanel and Mac both give brilliant service.

I went to the store on Kensington high street and the lady who served me was lovely. It was the first time I'd ever been in a store.

My "local" one used to be a real treat for me to mooch around and I'd usually end up treating myself to something. The last few occasions I've been in, I just felt it was all too much trouble for the assistants.

John Lewis, for me.

They have the worst customer service ever. I've been to several in London and every single time except for once in the Angel one, I've been treated as dirt.

They (or to be more precise, two members of their staff) were horrible to me in Bluewater years (about 10) ago and I haven't been back since.
I sometimes look at their online sale but it's one of those sales where you can tell that it really is the stuff that nobody wanted.

Went to one in Edinburgh years ago and never again. MAC and Bobbie Brown far better service.

They used to sell quite exclusive brands but now not so much. Assistant was a bit sneery with me in Newcastle when I was pregnant and a bit hot and bothered!

Funny, I used to like the Bluewater one (when there were only a handful - early 2000s?) but agree that in the past 3-4 years their thoroughly disinterested staff have totally put me off. That said I got great service in the Soho one in the summer when I wanted to top up my perfume

The one in Bath is good and I can't get all the brands they do in HOF or JL round here.

I wish they did Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury stuff though as they're my new faves.

I remember shopping in their first store in Covent Garden about 20 years ago. I would visit at the weekend and had no money, so rarely bought anything. The staff were lovely. I was in the Glasgow store recently. "Hello" says I, "I used to use before I was pregnant." Look at my skin etc etc, what do you recommend... I left empty-handed. I used to like the fact that they'd recommend products across different ranges, Eve Lom cleanser plus whichever serum etc. They used to seem very knowledgeable. Now it's more akin to disturbing a group of surly teenagers who will show their disdain then continue chatting. I have no mortgage and middle-aged skin. I walk into the shop saying that I want to get back into a better skincare routine. I should be their ideal customer.

I cannot understand why assistants on makeup counters persist in trying to sell you foundation which is far too dark, no matter what you say. Infuriating.

I was in the Glasgow shop and didnt like it at all. They werent overly helpful and felt they were a bit snotty!!!

I also like their loyalty card and they always give lots of samples.

I agree about the Nottingham one. I went in with jeans on and hair up in a pony tail and they were very stand offish. I felt like going in later and doing a pretty woman with loads of bags "big mistake, huge"

I find the opposite, the one in Leeds always has staff which pounce on you whenever you walk through the door. I prefer bigger stores where I can browse and touch stuff without being watched closely. Stick to HOF.
