How long do you think Space NK can go on for?

I've just been to a smaller branch and I didn't find them very helpful at all. I needed a foundation until I could get to John Lewis in a couple of weeks. I went in on my way home from nights so looking ancient and knackered there were four assistants in there talking not one came to help me. There was nothing in that shop that couldn't be bought anywhere else. When someone finally came to me I asked for a foundation not the most expensive one as it was only a stop gap. Next minute she was thrusting Eve Lom into my hand as if she hadn't heard a word I'd said. I sad sorry but I don't want to spend more than thirty so she begrudgingly got me a nars one and put it on the back of my hand, didn't even try it on my fac. I asked for it to be put on my face but for all the effort she put into it I needn't have bothered. I knew it was my colour anyway so I just bought it. I honestly don't know how the shop survives there's hardly anything in it, far too many staff that are badly trained and it's so expensive. Am I the only one!?

I've been in the Manchester one and been completely ignored. Just normal shopping clothes of jeans, smart ish winter coat, normal level (for me anyway) furla handbag so nothing posh. Shop was empty and 2 staff watching me. Went looking at stuff and when I turned round to ask questions, they turned the other way.

I went back in later in the day after failing to find what I wanted elsewhere, and got fawned over. The difference? I had a carrier bag from Tiffany, 4 selfridges bags and a Burberry carrier bag. They then couldn't do enough for me.

Yes I look like a scruff at times, I don't blow dry my hair for a shopping trip or
Full face of make up. But that doesn't mean I don't want to spend in there shop!

I love them as well and always get great service. I usually shop in the Westbourne Grove branch when I'm in London. I always remember when they started back in the early 90's they would send Stila shade charts on postcards with finger prints dabbed in the product and the name of the shade hand written.

It's certainly come a long way since then.

I wasn't even given a Mirror to look at my peri menopausal face yesterday. It's true we are the age group that has abit more money and needs abit more help. They should be advising us! It sounds like it's the smaller stores maybe they should shift them around abit.

I was in the Harrogate space NK last month in reasonably casual stuff (jeans and trainers) 8mo Ds in pram. The ladies were lovely, helpful but not pushy and I didn't feel "looked down" at

Another vote for the very helpful staff in Harrogate. I went in to buy a lipstick to replace one that I had thought I had lost.

They didn't have the shade I wanted in, so sold me a similar shade in another brand. However, they told me that if I should find my original lipstick before using the alternative, then they would be happy to take it back.

I always buy retexturing pads there, as can't find the ones in the green box anywhere else. Alas, they are never on sale.

The central Belfast store is atrocious
I loved/adored SpaceNK in GB but have found it to be poor, getting worse all the time
I was a £100 a monther and now spend that a year, at best

The Belfast store is filled by over made up women who openly sneer at customers who leave the store ...such a great feeling when you realise you are next! They somehow imagine that you concur that the last person wasn't quite right for SpaceNK because of how they dressed etc
Grim

In the olden days the staff seemed to be better trained mua types. Not the case anymore imo

They are tight as a gnat's chuff with their testers, you have to ask for them and they act as though they are handing over the crown jewels, clearly not realising that to a beauty junky this is like offering a tiny hit of crack for free.

I had a very hard sell from a lady telling me how the answer to all my prayers was a clarisonic
I explained that I was happy with my derm led advice given that I tread a fine line over cystic acne that is now under control
It was as though I was speaking Swahili as she kept repeating the importance of the Clarisonic over and over.

I now use HOF. It doesn't serve my needs as well but they are generally nicer and less OTT bossy.

another v positive vote for Chester store. I cannot bear snotty make up counter girls obsessing about their own faces - browns/debenhams chester = awful!

Bloody hell! Did it? I knew I hadn't been to Bluey for ages but I didn't realise it was that long!

Ronald totally agree though I got sneered at to my face last time I was in. Two of them at the desk and noone else in the place and it was like I'd asked for their pfb when I asked for a gift voucher, the sneer came when I just asked for one for £100, it was as though I was a total cheapskate. I nearly pulled them on it as it looked like I was probably the only bloody sale that day. I pass it all the time mid week when in work and there's never anyone in it.

I don't see the point of SNK any more now that JLewis and other stores sell the same products online as well .

The lighting is always terrible in the ones I've been in - long and narrow shops going right back away from the pavements- and I'd never buy make up there without going into daylight.

My local store in London was great, they gave me loads of samples and actually recommended product they did not stock as they were better than what they had in store.

Can't complain really.

I've been to the marylebone branch and it's very hit and miss, but for one constant - there are always at least two sales assistants chatting to one another and barely acknowledge a customer walking through the door.

They bought out Eve Lom, that's why thy push it. They also completely ruined it, so disagree on the great business mind front. Eve Lom was about simplifying your routine. So what did they do? Diversify the product line and offer gazillion products that all pretty much do the same thing to the point the brand's core values have been ignored. Hmm

I (48) went into the Bristol branch with DD (22) recently and they were lovely.
Insisted on trying out a lipstick on me while DD looked round.
Pressed lots of samples upon us on leaving.
I would go there again.

L'oreal has owned khiels for 14 years - the brand started expanding overseas as a result of the parent company.

The Glasgow store was very helpful but left with Rodial cleanser which was really greasy on my already oily skin. They also pushed the clarisonic which I ended up buying through the clarisonic website and I sent back as my face went like an oil slick.
I don't rate their range of cosmetics to be honest.

I think in fairness their range of cosmetics does include some outstanding brands such as By Terry, Chantecaille , Nars and Laura Mercier, even if their standard of service obviously varies way too much.

The Notting Hill and Bishopsgate branches have lovely staff, I can't say the same for Islington's branch, however. Nothing worse than staff standing around gossiping and ignoring customers.

I love the one in Bath and the concession inside Harvey Nichols in Bristol - they're all super helpful and greet me like a long lost friend (and actually remember my past purchases etc) when I trot in for a bit of a splurge.

The one at the top of Park Street in Bristol is awful though. I was really upset by the way they treated me last time I went in there and almost boycotted the whole company as a result, however I just avoid that particular shop as the other local ones are really ace.

I have blue hair and am pretty alternative looking but that doesn't excuse their rudeness.

Elswyth · 29/08/2014 14:21

The opposite in the branch here! They're too attentive, and I think have also been told to compliment each customer as they make their purchase (I dreaded taking my turn the first time, and was complemented on the colour of my purse Confused, and another time on the [nice] condition of my hair)

I do tend to buy online but now and then need to pop in and test a colour.
