First-time waxing... erm... down there

I have an appointment tomorrow for a wax. Never had one before. Been doing some reading about it beforehand and decided I'd like a normal bikini wax, but when I mentioned it to my husband, he revealed that he'd quite like me to have it all off (i.e. I believe it's called Hollywood or Brazilian?)

Is it going to hurt awfully to have it all removed in one go? How should I prepare? Should I shave/trim beforehand? (I'm completely au naturale at the moment)

Quite embarrassed to be asking, but thanks in advance Blush

They're not hairs though, they're filled with liquid yellow pus Confused And the surrounding areas are warm and red. I think it's probably an allergic reaction to something in the wax.

Was the skin pulled taut in every position and with each removal? There's a reason you should be moved into diff positions for the wax - the skin should be tight so it doesn't 'ping' and you don't get sore. Pressure should also be applied directly to each patch. You should have been fine after 24 hours if done correctly.

ElleDubloo · 23/08/2014 13:08

She did it extremely quickly, all finished within 15 mins I'd say. I was mainly on my back, knees bent, and she moved each leg to the side at different times but didn't shift me around much otherwise.

Sounds like she didn't do a very good job in hindsight. Is it worth me trying a different salon in 3-4 weeks time, or is waxing just not for me?

Well I don't know if this is going to out me as super hairy but my beautician usually takes around 40 minutes to do my hollywood and I go every 6 weeks so it is not like I have loads of regrowth. So 15 minutes and not all the hair removed and some sore bits sounds a bit crap tbh.

I would try somewhere new next time.

FuckTheMagicDragon · 23/08/2014 13:17

Why would you do this to yourself? It's painful, it's left you sore with infected hair follicles (which could turn into an abscess on your poor fanjio) and I'm pretty sure it won't improve your sex life if you're sore down there for days.

Genuinely don't understand this. And I do trim and immac, and have tried epilators. But short back and sides only :)

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 23/08/2014 13:18

What about if you have left over pregnancy piles?!

Hakluyt · 23/08/2014 16:40

Just as long as they aren't hairy, tickle......

pinkflaming0 · 23/08/2014 17:14

I'm a bit confused by this comment up thread Make sure they use the hot wax.. yes all wax is hot , but the hot wax uses no strip. If they use a strip on you they are bonkers

If there's no strip, how do they get the wax off and hairs out?

StripyBanana · 23/08/2014 17:16

I was thinking that, Fuck. We're fairly "active" and fairly adventurous.... but a few days in pain and out of action just doesn't seem worth it....

bigTillyMint · 23/08/2014 17:43

Eeeek! I've lasted nearly fifty years without getting waxed down there - Immac is your friend!

SinglePringle · 23/08/2014 19:28

With hot wax, the wax is much thicker and it gets pulled off - like a thick peel off mask.

PiratePanda · 23/08/2014 19:47

OP, you're a doctor! You do realise there's a classic study in Clinical Infectious Diseases of a woman contracting necrotising faciitus from a Brazilian? Think yourself lucky for just coming away with pustules!

mrssmith79 · 23/08/2014 20:22

Immac / Nair all the way for me. Slap it on, wait 15 mins and shower off. DH got an awful fright last week when I was standing in the kitchen folding laundry with my bottom half free as the wind and slathered in hair remover Grin

Chocolou · 23/08/2014 20:37

Op it sounds like folloculitis. I'm a therapist so not just a regular person adding my bit.

If it gets worse you will need anti biotics. Warm and red isn't a great sign.

WildBillfemale · 23/08/2014 20:53

I've never had a bikini wax because I had the same problems on my legs when they were waxed as you OP. I tried differant salons differant methods but had to conclude it wasn't for me.

I bought one of those 'bikini trimmers' you can get in Boots or elsewhere.
I put it on the shortest setting and give myself a buzz cut using a mirror. Very very short hair, no rash no pustules no itching or the itchy regrowth you'd get with shaving.

H likes the swirly growth patterns this reveals too Smile

Artistic · 23/08/2014 21:17

Tried it the first time & swore - never again! Was painful, burning, super sensitive & I hated it. After 24 hours it was bearable. Within a week sprouted hair & it was itchy as hell. Also got ingrown hair & acne as a result!

Forgot all about this & went back in 2 years.

This time I kept the promise.

It's bikini trimmers with an occasional home done bikini wax for me. Grin

Why is a prepubescent fanny seen as attractive ?Just shave or wax anything that shows in a cossie.
Does anyone want a bloke who doesn't shave his beard or who has undescended testicles.
Double standards here.

Hakluyt · 23/08/2014 21:56

It's just so bloody depressing. Educated women putting themselves through this so they look like prepubescent girls or porn actors.

Adult women have pubic hair. Until the porn industry realised that the observer saw more if the woman was hairless and that anyway, lots of men like the idea of a woman/child nobody removed their pubic hair. Now porn is so normalised that men expect it and women are shamed into it. Sad.

pinkflaming0 · 23/08/2014 21:57

Thanks for the explanation SinglePringle

MrsDavidBowie · 23/08/2014 22:01

Well I'm delighted with my Brazilian hakluyt and there's me with a degree. I really should know better.

CerealMom · 23/08/2014 22:06

Humm, 'finger up the bum' - that reminds me to book CerealDog into the vet's. He's 'scooting'

PenguinsIsSleepDeprived · 23/08/2014 22:09

What I don't understand is that, surely, if you wax you spend most of your time re-growing and stubbly? I mean, I've done my legs before. Smooth for a few days, then stubbly for ages until it's long enough to wax off again. Is it not the same.

BlueBrightBlue · 23/08/2014 22:24

Ok so I'm uneducated, but what is so abhorrent about pubic hair? I've never had any complaints
I've had a number of painful operations ,but they were life saving.
I do shave my pits/legs and every few months immac my tache.
Just don't get this bald punani shite. Do guys really like it or is t about being conformist?
Why would any sane person put themselves through this level of torture?
Because their lovers want them to look like a child?
Just don't get it, sorry.
Would a bloke have his dick shrunk to the size of a 7 year olds?
don't get me started on labiaplasty.
