First-time waxing... erm... down there

I have an appointment tomorrow for a wax. Never had one before. Been doing some reading about it beforehand and decided I'd like a normal bikini wax, but when I mentioned it to my husband, he revealed that he'd quite like me to have it all off (i.e. I believe it's called Hollywood or Brazilian?)

Is it going to hurt awfully to have it all removed in one go? How should I prepare? Should I shave/trim beforehand? (I'm completely au naturale at the moment)

Quite embarrassed to be asking, but thanks in advance Blush

Why do I have a Hollywood or Brazillian?

Because I'm a fashion victim who's given in to patriarchal pressure.

HTH.

Shave/nair followed by a bit of baby oil. My dp has said a few times he'd like completely bare. No chance.

I'm perfectly willing for this thread to become a precautionary tale to all women considering a Hollywood/Brazilian wax for the first time.

It's Day 3 and my fanny is still sore and red. I made my OH have a look at it this morning, because I can't see it close enough in the mirror, and my bump is in the way when I try to look at it directly. He said it looked awful. He's really sorry that he asked me to do it. I think he's quite embarrassed too.

PiratePanda - argh! Necrotising faciitis did cross my mind as I lay in bed bemoaning my sorry state last night. I'm going to the GP on Tuesday to get some antibiotics (thankfully the one that's used to treat folliculitis / skin infections isn't contraindicated in pregnancy).

What a mess I've got myself in! I feel an absolute numpty Blush

DH has had his back and shoulders waxed twice- once by me and once at a a salon. Each time he got folliculitis which lasted for about 6 weeks.
It itched like mad, looked terrible and he said never ever again.

Pubic waxing is a silly fashion and I hope it soon dies a death.
In my opinion the more women who come out and say this the better because too many younger women feel under pressure to have it done.

Just to put it in perspective, when my mum gave birth ( decades back) the one thing women dreaded was the compulsory enema and the pubic shave. Now, women pay to have the latter done Confused

It is really sad that this is becoming the norm or whatever. I remeber last year being in the pub with work people (all there were early-mid twenties apart from a few of us on the other side of 30) and the lads were saying if they went home with a girl and she had hair, they'd get dressed and leave! Shock I said no way would I believe that a bloke would leave a naked lady because of a bit of hair and are they aware that it is normal to have hair there. They all laughed (even the females) and told me it was disgusting to not be bare! Shock Sad

Elle, I hope you get better soon

And please don't feel a numpty .

Just remember next time your partner suggests anything new -get him to try it himself first Wink

As for the hygiene issue; waxing can cause damage to tiny blood vessels as well as leaving small grazes. It creates an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.
Think heat, moisture, mucous membranes.
I know I'm in the minority for having a full muff, but I really don't care; it's not on public display or anything.
Only once did I shave it off ( out of curiosity) and it looked bloody ridiculous; I mean I don't have the fanny of a 6 year old girl .
If you can see my pubes through my lacy knickers so what? I'm a grown woman not a feckin mannequin.

Even FHM say that the bare fanny has had it's day Grin
Style blog - 'The Bush is Back'
Cameron Diaz on the subject

Lots more where that came from - yeah to au natural pubes!
No pain, no infections, no money required, no weirdo porn/prepubescent connotations etc etc; what's not to like?!

So what is FHM telling women to do with their genitals this year?

Same here. I also thought it just looked all wrong and made my thighs and hips look bigger. And then the itchy nightmare of regrowth.

I've never waxed and never will...and if a man declined to sleep with me because of it, well, lucky escape for me, so that's fine!

Your experience sounds pretty terrible OP Sad

Although I have a Brazilian, dh has not noticed it.
Nb it was done in July.
So nothing to do with what men want in my case..I like it and will continue to have it done.
I do know my beauty therapist VERY well.

Pinkfrocks · 24/08/2014 17:25

I have a full one too and always have. It's not enough to spread down my thighs and is all contained by my knickers.
DH loves it, so there.

I think you're beautician is not cutting it. I would be really annoyed to have to leave a salon like that, she should've removed the remaining hairs in a different way.
I've had bad burns from (hot) leg wax, obvious bruising from where fingers have held my legs etc....looked gorgeous on holiday! Some beauticians are better than others, I respectfully suggest you find another before abandoning the idea.

Pustules are common aren't they with the hair removal trauma? (Waiting hopefully for affirmation). I always get them when epilating.

Why indeed ??? I would be abandoning the idea completely if I were the OP. Her fanjo has enough trauma coming it's way soon enough

I often wonder whether there are beauticians who qualified before the waxing trend but now have to do it and whether they say "I didn't sign up for this" to themselves Grin

Naw - thought not Grin

Well, she said she stuck one of those ice lolly-stick things in her hot wax and then one each up each of his nostrils, waited a minute or two, then yanked them both out Shock
My eyes are watering as I type this

Apparently she gets loads of hair out, he sleeps better and snores less and comes back for more every 10-12 weeks.

Who'd've thunk it.
I did not ask her what else she waxes for him. On either his or her anatomy...

Did you know you can get your ring piece bleached?
I've spent many a sleepless night fretting over the dark hues of my bum hole. At last I have the solution!

And people say it's nothing to do with the porn industry, or the pornification of society- they get their areshole bleached "for them" and because it's so much more hygienic!

This thread is interesting and reminds me why I will never attempt a Brazilian or Hollywood.
I'm old enough to have passed the porn star fanjo look, and now couldn't care less. There has never been any problems at all and I've had an interesting and varied love life Wink

Also, the thought of being on all fours parting bum cheeks, or on back with legs up in front of a stranger has me feeling all faint. What about 'ahem' bodily noises?!! Blush

Report
SinglePringle · 25/08/2014 00:44

I've never had to go on all fours to have my undercarriage waxed, nor have I had to have my ankles round my ears. Just legs akimbo.

And I fully accept - as posted above - that I'm influenced by fashion in this regard. That's why I first had it done (although had been shaving for donkey's years). But the skin underneath felt incredible - very silky - and it turned both of us on, so...

And no bodily noises have ever been emitted.
