Nice things lego. I've realized again that I am rubbish when it is even slightly not warm so already in a jacket and feel I could stretch to a jumper today... Hmm

Been lusting after grey cashmere jumpers...I have just impulse bought a basic crew neck jaeger one from ebay. Will wait and see. I find it really hard to find the perfect grey. It needs to be pretty dark, charcoal type I think and lots seem more mixed with white that black if they are marl. May have made a mistake!

I am wearing black jaeger trousers (slim 7/8ths), ice pink linen shirt, navy vintage maxmara long line jacket and my navy saltwaters today... Kind of like it. Prob should have on a lippy but worried with the jacket I'll look way too eighties!

Kind of obsessing over whether I have a bit of gamine or not. I should prob just have the style day as then I won't obsess over if anymore. I don't really want someone to tell me a type that I have to be but at the same time I want to know! Whenever I look at the kibbe types online though it feels a bit that they all blur together for me especially when outfit types are shown?

I hate it when DP doesn't like what I am wearing. I can't shake the knowledge once I know. Am annoyed that I can't!

Mimia, DP bought me a lovely vintage coat at Christmas with a bright green/yellow and black tapestry pattern (sounds gross but is nice and fits really well) but is WRONG... Awkward ungrateful.

Is it possible to post a picture of something into a comment?

BittersweetSymphony · 01/09/2014 12:00

foogle if you look under the post box there's a bit where you can upload images.

MissScatterbrain · 01/09/2014 12:06

Just been to TK Maxx for an emergency purchase and had a quick look at their knitwear - lots of gorgeous pure cashmere and wool pieces in winter colours from Clement Ribero and another designer that I can't remember the name of.

cardigal · 01/09/2014 12:38

I found a few things in TK - knitwear by Antoni & Alison which was so lovely that I bought 3 items. DH said they are shapeless so back they go...I hate wearing stuff he doesn't like.

In his head I'm an 'executive-type' I think Grin In my head I'm a SAHW

cardigal · 01/09/2014 12:42

fooogle HOC gamine types are quite stocky IIRC.

I always thought of Audrey Hepburn when I thought of gamine but it's more about mischievous imps apparently Confused

NowhereNow · 01/09/2014 13:48

I bought a burgundy/damson leather handbag on eBay. It arrived today - I love the colour & style (and silver hardware!) but it smells a bit musty Sad

MissScatterbrain · 01/09/2014 13:52

I have been told that HOC Gamines when overweight tend to look stocky.

Antoni and Alison is the other designer I couldn't remember Grin

fooogle · 01/09/2014 14:22

Hmmm, back to the drawing board then maybe with Gamines... Not sure I look stocky as am 5'11''... Darn.
I suit a shirt though....
What style do you see this as?! debating it...

fooogle It's nearly impossible to work out yourself unless you're an obvious dramatic/romantic/natural/gamine/ingénue/classic as most of us are at least two (if not three) types.

Your height immediately puts you in the dramatic section IMHO but it depends on your yin and yang. You might be a tall natural which is the opposite.

I'm a definite classic but I have a warmth about my personality which makes me a natural classic. I also have a dribble of ingénue (cos I'm pretty apparently)

Also, remember that the Kibbe test isn't the same as HOC's interpretation so it will vary.

In truth, although the cost of the style day seems a lot, it really does help you pinpoint if you're not very sure. I always knew I was classic but the natural and ingénue were a revelation.

HTH

cardigal · 01/09/2014 14:38

IMHO it was worth it to be told I'm a bit 'pretty' (at the ripe old age of 50) Grin

MrPop · 01/09/2014 15:32

Reading this, I think I would be a mix of classic and natural. It sounds like a v dull combination!

QueenCardigan · 01/09/2014 15:38

I agree, it's really difficult to work out yourself. If you look at ingenue and natural they are pretty different yet I am a 50:50 mixture of both!

OP posts:
fooogle · 01/09/2014 16:01

Does it just help you know what not to wear? to coin a early 2000's phrase. I wonder if I'll get in a hilarious muddle trying to find something dramatic and whatever other type clothes in one outfit. Confused and end up wearing skinny jeans and a top whatever

What do you think of the top...is it dramatic?! I have no clue]

Appreciate totally not possible to self diagnose on it prob won't stop trying though

cardigal · 01/09/2014 16:20

Dramatic is all sharp and angly, asymmetric - literally 'drama' in the clothing. The soft drape says natural, soft, warm to me so to my untrained eye that top is a mix of both of those - in other words neither one thing nor t'other - and to be honest that's where folk like me who don't know what suits them get in a right mess. If I was Dramatic I wouldn't buy it, if I was Natural I might. It certainly isn't natural classic as it's not tailored enough. It isn't ingénue - it's not 'neat'.

Am I making any sense to anyone? I'm just thinking out loud in my head Confused

fooogle · 01/09/2014 16:36

Thanks Cardigal. Lordy I don't know... Ended up ordering a very, very neutral grey crew neck... Guess then I have to oomph it up with jewelry or something or wear it with something else that makes it dramatic if I am dramatic...
I like the colour of that top but yes, thought it may be a bit natural and think I am wide of hip so think things are meant to stop before they get there topwise...

Stokey · 01/09/2014 16:48

Hello everyone, no colour buys here as just back from holiday and catching up.

Sorrell I think I have a similar figure to you ( 5ft3 and 28G boobs but quite petite) & I love a dress in the summer. My best buy this summer was a £10 black one from H&M with a round neck, slightly gathered waist and pocketed skirt. Accessorised with a red bag, it looked great. I also bought a straight black & white Maxi skirt that I have worn with a black or ice green t-shirt. I think empire line suits my figure best as long as it's not too low and quite fitted so you don't look pregnant.

And on the subject of sultry winters ... I was told I was sultry but had some bright colours that were double stars as well as the darker one. So 22 carmine, 19 raspberry & 15 fuschia were double stars for me along with the damson, pine green, lobelia, charcoal and indigo.

MrPop · 01/09/2014 16:59

Someone I think of as being dramatic is Mary Portas. Not sure if I'm barking up the wrong tree but she has that angular, sharp lines look and likes big statement jewellery.

La Portas

And classic / natural I see as Jennifer Aniston.

cardigal · 01/09/2014 18:50

I agree with those Mr Pop!

fooogle · 01/09/2014 19:20

I'd say I'm more portas than aniston...in the scheme of things that is!!

SorrelForbes · 01/09/2014 20:16

Stokey Yes, we sound a bit alike! Is that H&M dress still on their website by any chance?

OK, I received my three AlliumB dresses today. As I'd sort of expected (but hoped otherwise) they don't really work for me [sad.

Audrey in Midnight blue, size 12. A good match for shade 10 (Royal Blue) which is a ** at 100% for me. However, the style just didn't work. Too loose, too long and too much going on at the neck line. I tried it with a leather belt and it looked marginally better but not much.

Amelie in size 10. A bit better than the Audrey and I'm glad I sized down as it really is roomy. But, all in all, just meh.

Both of these just made me look like a sack tied in the middle which I guess confirms that I need to wear fitted styles (not always comfortable in hot weather). They also had those linings which are a bit shorted than the actual dress which again just looked scruffy on me. The Amelie was defiantly more flattering than the Audrey but definitely not a summer dress worth (on me anyway) £30.

Susana in Midnight blue, size 12. A good enough match for Shade 9 (Navy). I'm really torn with this one. It's silk and unlined so perfect for hot days and evenings. Alas it is really at least 5" too long hitting way below my knees. It's also a bit long in the body which means that the collar (which I'm meant to avoid anyway as they don't work for me due to shortness between top of head and armpit!) sits too high. I think it would really annoy me but would work well on someone with a long(ish) neck (like the models on the website!). Apart from that, I love the feel of it and it's definitely more fitted and classic than the other two. I guess I could get it altered?

standingonlego · 01/09/2014 20:21

I concur with the overweight gamine leading to stockiness rather than curves Blush. Extra weight just makes me lose my waist completely. I am 5'3" but with a bust - I think I am gamine mixed with something else (Natural? dramatic? Classic? Def NOT romantic or ingenue!)

QueenCardigan · 01/09/2014 21:26

sorrell I love those first two dresses and they are very me (ingenue natural) so I can see that they would be no good for you. The third dress sounds like it has too much wrong with it tbh. If it was just the length then I'd get it altered but I think with the collar issue too, send it back and wait to find something better.
mrpop I'd agree with portas and Aniston too.

Quick question... Would you ever get some special gold jewellery (that you never wore but didn't know why) replated with silver or white gold? I'm considering it and wondered if anyone has thoughts.
