jana I've got two rings bought after children which are yellow gold (bought in that as at the time I was a spring!). I don't think I could make myself plate them as they're old ones but at the same time if feel more 'right' wearing them if I did? Dp would think it totally wrong too and he paid at the time Grin.
Is it rings you have or...?
sorrel interesting to hear your allium b thoughts. Wish I could tell properly if mine looked good or not. Like the dresses in themselves just dunno if they look good or bad!

ThePerfectNegroni · 02/09/2014 06:06

Foogle and Jana- are you sultry winters? They are thought of as neutral rather than totally cool. 12 blueprints and others say we can wear white and yellow gold, which kind of makes sense (although hoc don't say this). I have a trinity ring with white, rose and yellow gold. I have no and to stop wearing it (it's my wedding ring).

MrPop · 02/09/2014 07:12

Sorrel I love the Susanna dress but agree with QueenC that it has too much 'wrong' with it for you. Might mean you end up not wearing it very much at all.

I haven't had jewellery re-plated. I am just still wearing (the few) gold pieces I have. I have always preferred silver toned luckily!

JanaOfTheJungle · 02/09/2014 08:50

I wouldn't get jewelry replated if I wore it and liked it as it was, and I wouldn't get it done if I didn't care about it.

The pieces I'm the nuking of were given to me by my grandparent for 18th and 21st birthdays, birthstone ring and necklace set in gold. I wore them a bit but then started to like silver tones more. My wedding ring is silver toned. The gifts just sit in a box.

So now that I know why I never wore them, I think getting them replated might mean I wear them, and since they are special pieces that mean a lot, that would be better than them sitting in a box.

JanaOfTheJungle · 02/09/2014 08:50

The nuking? Thinking!

MrPop · 02/09/2014 09:50

Does re-plating generally work well? I've never heard of it before! I would do it in your circumstances if it works well and isn't too prohibitively £.

MrPop · 02/09/2014 09:50

And I hope it isn't like nuking them!!

cardigal · 02/09/2014 09:55

I would wear gold jewellery (sultry) I get that I look better in cool colours as per my sultry diagnosis but I don't believe a gold necklace would ever make me look really awful so I take it with a pinch of salt. I'd wear it with black or navy rather than a warm cream. My wedding, engagement and eternity rings are all yellow gold and they're non-negotiable! Nearer my face I'd just tone it down with cooler colours.

The HOC lady showed how pearls looked dirty against cream or blue depending on whether they were cool or warm pearls but I didn't feel the same about silver and gold. My favourite item of jewellery is half gold/half silver - I wear it a lot and still can't decide if the gold looks bad against my skin.

JanaOfTheJungle · 02/09/2014 10:04

Ah, I think if I was a sultry and close to autumn colouring that would be different. But I am a Jewel winter and the silver just works, and brightens everything up. Grin

cardigal · 02/09/2014 10:07

I that case jana I'd look into getting them replated or sell them and buy something that you love in a similar style but silver. I agree they're not doing much good unworn!

Stokey · 02/09/2014 10:25

I think H&M dress has gone Sorrell, I bought it in July and now there site is all A/W

I tried an Alium B dress too and found it much too big - too long and not fitted enough.

I've got a couple of brass (rather than gold) necklaces that I really like. One was given to me by my Grandmother in her will so I'm going to wear it anyway (but I am sultry )

MissScatterbrain · 02/09/2014 11:26

Interesting discussion re gold jewllery - I am a sultry and gold makes me and my clothes look cheap. Fortunately my engagement and wedding rings are platinum - these were just becoming fashionable when I got married and I've always liked silver coloured jewellery.

Given how expensive gold is, I would look at selling the gold bits and getting the stones reset in white gold/platinum. You would need to go to a local jeweller who can do this or visit the jewellery quarter in Birmingham though.

JanaOfTheJungle · 02/09/2014 11:48

Interesting, I had not thought of selling. I don't think I could do it. Family history means I have issues with change generally and selling an emotional link to my grandfather would be hard. Replating is less emotionally fraught for me, I think. Maybe.

fooogle · 02/09/2014 12:17

Tricky jana. I know how hard it is when things feel like they don't fit in with 'the look' but it is lovely to have emotional links with objects so I am trying to override my perfectionist impulses when it comes to these items... When I look at models for example I don't often think 'hmm, if only they had on silver/gold instead'?

Randomly saw this. Not sure it would work for me flat as a pancake chest wise but may be good for someone. Is it a natural shape or dramatic??! dress

Stokey · 02/09/2014 12:53

It looks very orange fooogle

I do have the chest but struggle with things that tie round my waist, I think maybe you need to be long-waisted to carry it off (and tall?).

I'm not sure what style it is.

I like this dress with a wide skirt but may be a bit chesty (and not sure if the top colour is right?)

cardigal · 02/09/2014 12:57

You have a penchant for batwing sleeves! It has a lot of drama I think?

Stokey · 02/09/2014 16:17

I tried on a dark green silk dress at Uniqlo this lunch time. It doesn't look it on the web, but is actually a good match for the dark green swatch. It didn't really suit me but would look good on someone else (less curvy) and is lovely material.

They also had some nice silk blouses in black, navy and a green that may match one of the jewel greens - again I don't think the screen colour is accurate.

SmileAndNod · 02/09/2014 16:54

Hi hope you don't mind me gate crashing the thread but I've been watching for a while and just to answer Jana I've had my wedding and engagement rings re plated. They were originally in yellow gold, rather expensive and I hardly ever wore them, even less so after my HOC consult so they sat at the bottom of my jewellery box. I took them to an independent jeweller and it really did give them a new lease of life, I wear them constantly now. I'm not sure what it's done to the value as not had them valued since, but at least I'm wearing them now. So much so that I think they will need re doing soon.

Anyway I'll continue to watch with interest. I'm not sure what kind of winter I am - my best colours at 100% were charcoal, damson, lobelia, carmine and raspberry. Most of the others were two star at 75 but I don't really suit the ice colours at all, and the yellow and stone colour were crossed or for me. Maybe I'm a bit of a mix?

Am looking forward to buying a couple of things for winter. I want to expand my cardi collection (fancy fuchsia and a berry colour maybe). I could also do with some long sleeve t shirts should anyone come across any. Despite being a SAHM I look odd in casual clothing and feel a bit scruffy and not well put together. I feel much happier when I'm a bit more 'dressed up' but sadly that doesn't fit with my life!

cardigal · 02/09/2014 17:05

I'm better at being the smart side of casual too smile I'm a classic classic in that regard!

Your ** colours match mine and I'm a sultry if that helps. Very dark eyes, dark hair and paleish skin. I look better in the deep, saturated, darker colours. That dark pine green is on my list too.

MrPop · 02/09/2014 17:07

Hello smileandnod and welcmoe. have you looked at Woolovers? They have a colour called rich rose which is a good match for one of our swatches.

this kind of thing

Quite a few Linea cardigans have been linked on here too, from house of fraser iirc.

JanaOfTheJungle · 02/09/2014 17:59

Oh, thank you, Smile! I am a it worried about ruining them and how expensive it will be but your story has made me think it is worth asking a jeweller anyway. Grin

fooogle · 02/09/2014 18:19

cardigal I think I do like a batwing! Not sure why! Not sure it actually suits me. Child of the eighties too... Hmm

Replatung sounds like it's a good option then smile, was it expensive? If you don't mind my asking.

Long sleeves; I keep picking up some oasis ones in the charity rummaging I'm prone too. They seem nice, mixed fibres if that bothers but I mostly viscose I think. Have a green and royal blue one but they had lots of winter colours in this season it seemed.

Today I got a mid grey spotty shirt from gap and a dark grey swim suit (brand new) from charity shop. Know it's not much help to your shopping but there's great stuff to be had if you can spare the time Grin. I can't seem to stop though!

fooogle · 02/09/2014 18:21

My doubles are electric, royal blue and purple, scarlet, lagoon blue, fuschia, magenta I think. Jewel winter. I don't dare wear many of them in quantity though, feels a bit 'look at me'?!

fooogle · 02/09/2014 18:22

Oh, saino had basic cotton tees (short sleeve) reduced to £2. Fuschia and navy definitely in the range.

QueenCardigan · 02/09/2014 22:07

smile stick around if you're buying cardigans. The purple one in uniqlo is a bright damson colour. And HOF have quite a few god colours in. I bought purple and tried the green which is a good match for emerald but it didn't feel right.
jana it's worth asking a jewellers. I've got an emerald ring which has been passed on but I don't like wesring rings other than wedding ring etc. I would love to have the stone taken out and reset in a pendant as I hate the fact that lovely jewellery is sitting unworn. Unfortunately for me the jeweler said that the emerald may crack so I decided against it but if replating can be done then go for it.
