Enormous black eyebrows. Is this a thing??

Two pretty women in the cafe. Blonde hair, petite faces and the most enormous black, and obviously drawn on, eyebrows I've seen.

Is this a thing?

I feel a bit bad even commenting, really, as I'm usually very 'wear what you want, look how you want', but they're stunning and noteworthy.

Why? Just why?

Yes it's a thing. Like ridiculously tweezed to death eyebrows used to be/is a thing.

If thick eyebrows had been a thing for 50 years and then tweezing eyebrows to a thin line then became a thing you would find that stunning and noteworthy!

There are degrees. I expect quite a lot of people will go for a slightly thicker stronger eyebrow look in a few years, if not the extreme version some people are embracing just now.

I wonder if it is anything to do with images of Freda Kahlo becoming a thing in recent years.

wafflyversatile · 02/08/2014 12:45

And to answer your question - Why not? Grin It's a um, strong look. Why take on any fashion?

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 02/08/2014 12:53

I have no idea who Frieda Kahlo is, but I'll google. I've never had my eyebrows done as I'm a total wuss when it comes to pain.

I just don't have my finger on the pulse of popular culture Grin

They make me snigger with laughter if I'm telling the truth. Ditto false eyelashes, always look ridiculous in real life.

hollie84 · 02/08/2014 12:57

Funnily enough I saw the neighbour's teenage daughter the other day had suddenly gained massive thick black eyebrows to complement her bleached blonde hair and wondered wtf that was all about Grin

IfNotNowThenWhen · 02/08/2014 12:58

It's been a thing for aaaages Keema!
The really extreme version is called Scouse Brow, as I think it originated with wanna be WAGS in Merseyside.
I quite like a strong brow, within reason.

wafflyversatile · 02/08/2014 12:59

She was an artist who produced a huge amount of self-portraits. She had very thick eyebrows that she wore au naturale.

Skina · 02/08/2014 12:59

They look like the wearers of these monstrosities have stuck a couple of slugs on and thought 'ah, that looks great'. Clearly they and their friends all hate each other.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 02/08/2014 13:01

Aha. There's nothing natural about these though. They're very well coiffed eyebrows and more than a little surprising.

wafflyversatile · 02/08/2014 13:07

That's fashion though isn't it? Take something that is natural for a % of the population and emulate. See bum implants for the J-Lo look etc.

wafflyversatile · 02/08/2014 13:08

Anyway the Kahlo thing is just my theory. I could easily be barking up the wrong tree.

sebsmummy1 · 02/08/2014 13:10

I think they are HD brows and yep, they are most definitely, 'a thing'.

AlleyCat11 · 02/08/2014 13:11

It looks really awful. I see so many pretty young faces ruined by those big black brows. Who knew Noel Gallagher would ever become a beauty icon...

SurfBoredCat · 02/08/2014 13:12

I've spent years plucking, waxing and threading my thick black monobrows and now it is a shadow of its former self it's in fashion? Hmmmph!

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 02/08/2014 13:19

Grin at Noel Gallagher!

OP posts:
Llareggub · 02/08/2014 13:21

It's definitely a thing where I live. My stepsister has them and I can't talk to her without focusing in on her bonkers brows.

MarshaBrady · 02/08/2014 13:22

Yes it's a thing.

MarshaBrady · 02/08/2014 13:22

I do wonder why and how it started.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 02/08/2014 13:23

Why young women in the absolute prime of their looks have to take the latest fashion to the point they look stupid, is a mystery to me and my DDs. Even my very fasion conscious 13 would see no sense in bright orange foundation, huge black eyebrows or eyeliner that makes you look like a panda.

hollie84 · 02/08/2014 13:31

I actually love bonkers fashion trends on young girls/women - why not? I thought it was brilliant when all the school girls had massive beehives a few years ago too.

CalamityKate1 · 02/08/2014 13:35

It's a ridiculous look. I'm all for defined, enhanced brows within reasonable boundaries but yes, a blonde woman with thick black brows just looks dreadful.

MarshaBrady · 02/08/2014 13:36

I was impressed by some epic ones on the tube the other day. Two friends chatting in Fench and had back packs. It did make me think big brows had reached the continent .

MarshaBrady · 02/08/2014 13:36

French

Greengardenpixie · 02/08/2014 13:38

Naturally thick brows are fine but unnatural drawn on ones look imo hiddeous and laughable. It looks like panto.

LumionaMoonsplash · 02/08/2014 13:38

It's a thing, not a good thing but a thing none the less.
